Is it possible to change the region lock of a TE from usa to japan? I'm having a hard time finding a seller with a japanese GT in mint condition, and the TE seems to be more common on ebay. On ebay, the GTs being sold are either to expensive, have quiet sound, dead pixels, or the seller has way too many neg feedback. I'm not interested in a region switch, (I know there isn't enough space for that) just want to be able to play japanese hucards.
I don't have a TE, but if it is possible to modify I'll consider buying one.

You need one of those Kisado Converters.

I think you have 2 choices...
1. Get a GT
2. Get a Kisado Converters
I don't think there is any other way around it....and since you don't have a TE already then where is the harm in spending the extra cash on the GT... :)

Yeah, I know it's a lot trouble just to buy a TE to play pce games. But GTs are more expensive and tough to find one in very good condition. I'm also worried about using an ac adaptor. I might fry the GT with my 120v outlet, whereas I won't have that problem with a TE. I don't need two dead GTs.

D-Lite mod maybe?

Could always build your own portable, but never ends up looking to good. Unless your Ben Heckendorn, that guy does some kick ass stuff. Take a look at his consolized Neo Geo MVS. He also did a portable Neo Geo MVS, whats funny is that the cart is bigger than the portable.
Here is the link: http://www.benheck.com/
I say get the GT, and if you are worried about the 120V then just get a stepdown convertor. Usually this is never a problem since it uses an AC adapter the lowers the voltage and amps to the systems specs. The only thing that has a chance of frying would be the adapter without the stepdown convertor. Also just buy a US adapter for the TE seperate.

Well since you don't care about playing US games, couldn't you just cut the traces on the cartridge connector and re-wire them to accept Jap hucards? It seems like you could just use D-lite's instructions only minus the switch to permantly make it Jap only.

Where are these instructions posted anyway? I know on a japanese PCE, in order to play US hucards you need to ground pin29 of the Hu6280 chip. But I don't know if this applies on a TE.

NOOOOOOO! Don't destroy it, sell it to me!

Sorry I'm not sure, but there's another thread going on here where Keranu links to them, I think it's called "D-Lite's import mod" or something to that effect. You should also check out the turbo mailing list if it's still up and running, those guys are freakin geniuses when it comes to Turbo. Somebody could probably give you the link, or just google Turbo List (it's the one run by that BT guy who did the new Turbo games like Implode).

Destroy what? I don't have a Turbo Express.
