I was wondering:
I have one arcade-perfect port of Image Fight, and I'm actively seeking the Playstation compilation that comes with that and X-Multiply so I'll probably have two copies soon.
Knowing this, is there any reason whatsoever to grab the PCE version of Image Fight, or should I hold my money and just get the sequel?
Thanks in advance.
-
I'm not sure how it compares to the arcade one, but I know Image Fight on PCE is one of my favorite PCE shooties! :P
-
PCE Image Fight is a decent port, but it's a far cry from the arcade original.
-
Edmond, nice avatar!!!
The pce version does offer multiple levels of difficulty, so that can be fun to tinker with and compare to the arcade. Ive found the default difficulty to have characteristics of various pce difficulty settings simultaneously. If youre into pce i would definitely recommend it! You should be able to get a complete copy for less than 20 bucks.
-
Your avatar is nice too! Hey, maybe we're related!
Well, I guess if I find it cheap I'll pick it up. It would be nice to have both Image Fights right next to each other (I'm going to get IF2 for sure, maybe around Christmas since its so expensive).
-
HAHAHA, I swore the original poster was rag-time4 until I finished reading his post!

Image Fight one is a $20 or less game regularly so cheap shouldn't be a problem. Image Fight 2 however may take some patience to nab reasonably priced.
-
Yeah, lowest I've seen IF2 for is $74 shipped.
It's too bad X-Multiply never had a PCE port... I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

That's close to average (Ebay wise, etc.)...took me awhile but I paid like $35-40 complete/minty for mine.
X-Multiply would def have been cool on the PCE.
-
Which PCE Image Fight lets you play as different ships after clearing the game?
-
X-Multiply would def have been cool on the PCE.
Definitely. I know this is outside the forum's purview but if anyone here has a copy of the Playstation disc that has X-Multiply and Image Fight 1, or you happen to see someone offering it for a really cool price, lemme know!
Thinking of changing my avatar so that people won't get me confused with rag-time4, but I can't find an equally cool image that is also in some way PCE-relevant. Suggestions?

Well BT, in image fight 2, you can use the R9 from r-type after you clear the game, and in image fight 1 on PCE you can enter a code to play as Mr Heli without clearing the game! So both pce games give you options! (except there are no options in these games, that would be gradius!)

i dont think there is an equally cool image! You cant go wrong with a red pod though! Or maybe the OF-1 with red pods!! Other ideas might be action shots of Image Fight boss 3 (lazer hell) or Image Fight boss 4 (missile hell)

After giving it some consideration, I've decided on two choices for my avatar:
1) either keep it as is, and just remind people "rag-time4's is holding a gun, mine isn't"
or
2) replace it with the Avatar I use over at the shmups forum (which is of the X-Multiply ship with its tentacles flowing behind it)
What you think?
-
X-Multiply avatar because that one sounds cool!

if these are the only two choices, i would honestly favor choice #1, as x-multiply has yet to be released on pce (but would make an awesome homebrew project, hint, hint!)
My only question for you regarding choice 1 is this: do you think it would be better for the forum if we hated each other and never agreed on anything, or would it be better if we got along great?
Also, what did you think about my idea of using the OF-1 from image fight with pods?
-
Well, I am now using an X-Multiply avatar. It's not quite the same one I use on that other forum (that place requires avatars to be shrunk a little farther than this one does) but I thought it worked.
Yeah, somebody should do a homebrew port of X-Multiply. I'd buy it!

How about an all new arcade or super CD x-multiply 2?
-
If you think you could do better than Irem...

Did they ever release an X-multiply 2?
-
No, there never was a sequel to famous x-multiply :(
Imo one of irems finest game. The great dark FM bgm adds the rest.
-
They never did a sequel. What I meant by "do better than Irem" is, well... part of the games appeal is just that Irem's designers had a very effed up imagination (also on display in the final level of R-Type III, and probably other places I haven't looked yet). Call me cynical but I think any sequel done not-by-Irem would basically lose that unique flavor and be just cookie-cutter creepy.
My friends around the D&D table tell me I'm good at coming up with creepy monsters, but I've never designed a game before.

You guys are too much.

Wow, I forgot to answer that question.
Ummm... I think it would be better for this forum if we DRANK BLOOD! Yeah!

That's a fair point. I would also rather have as much involvement as possible from key staff from X-Multiply 1 if there ever were to be a sequel.
As an Irem fan, have you ever tried Eiyuu Sangokushi? It's a turn-based strategy game from Irem, based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms history.
-
Nope. Just got into Irem recently, and my Japanese isn't too good.
Actually, I really wish I had better Japanese skills. I've tried a lot of things--various tape, computer and video based courses, flash cards, even translating manga but it seems like I'm just going too slow.
-
Yeah, Japanese isn't a language you will master over night. Especially not on some autodidactic learning.
-
Ironically enough I'm probably gonna trade in my X-Multiply pcb soon. It's a decent game, but something is just missing from it. I feel like it was just trying too hard to be the next R-Type.... XM Stage 2 for example, looks cool but a total let down compared to R-Type Stage 3. Sure the music is nice, but the game just isn't so much fun to play imo.
Armed Police Unit Gallop on the other hand is perfection. One of my top favorite shooters ever.
For Irem's non-shooters, I really like the often overlooked Kengo. A neat concept with beautiful graphics.

Fire Barrel!!

Oooh, a PCB!
*Checks to see if he's won the lottery yet*
Darn :(
