Title: PC-engine art 'N mash-up
Post by: Nando on November 01, 2011, 08:30:40 AM
Reaching out to the community here. I'll give you the sweet and short of my idea. Forum mods, please let me know where would be the best place to put this post at, if its not here. :)
The pitch: I'd like you to help me come up with some PC-engine/Turbografx inspired art that can be printed on a t-shirt. Think teefury and riptapparel, http://www.the-king-of-games.com (http://www.the-king-of-games.com/) etc, etc, etc..
Any and all ideas are welcomed, straight character/set piece illustrations, abstract concepts, logos, mash-ups. My goal is to have the community pick one or two ideas and making them a reality.
Since this is my idea I would do the art, post concept roughs and have you all vote on them. The end result would be a vector graphic that would be free to all members of the forum. I don't want nor plan on selling the final product to any t-shirt place either.
Why am I doing this? simple, I need the practice. In real life I'm a corporate web/software graphics UI guy, and I'm dying to get more creative work done. Thing is I'm tapped, my creative well needs refilling and I believe it is only by sharing ideas with other that we fill that well up; and from personal experience I work better when I have to "deliver" and have a goal to get my ass in gear.
any takers?
and if more artist want to tackle this by themselves or together, even better.

It should have all of the important PCE characters flying out of an explosion, high fiving each other, with dead Mario characters in the rubble.

Maybe one of them should be holding blue hair too.

The characters riding away from the bloody carnage can be riding on a PCE Ship making a =3 face
HAHAH makes me think of the GI Joe intro back in the day. Second season I think, with the cobra ship.
So we can make the pc-engine ship the star destroyer and on its sides all the Gunhed, *.Blade, salamander and other shmup single ships escorting it out of the explosion.

I would like to see some keith Courage artwork mixed in with the PCE Logo or TG16 logo for a T-shirt (http://www.vintagecomputing.com/wp-content/images/namepixels/pixels6_num3_answer.jpg)

Lets talk some ideas. I think this can be tons of fun.
Arkhan: I've got some doodles on this, need some help with the characters that will be riding the PC-engine ship. Rick shall be wearing blue spiky caps. Tastefully done of course.

Personally I would like to see a reprint of the t-shirts in the turbo gear catalog.

In all seriousness, a simple understated design with the PC Engine logo or TG16 logo would probably be one I'd actually wear...

Well that's another idea, big bold, abstract graphics of the logo with Kanji and all that other graphic design, make your eyes cross, type layout. YEAH OBEY!!!

Some Keith Courage anime for extra source material
I think I'm going to take the Kanji or is that Katakana? anyway take the japanese writing and use it in the tshirt design. Incorporate the red ying/yang half into it and the logo. Understated tshirt design.

Windy is looking at using his relatives silk screening machine to potentially print the Keith Courage image posted above. Would any of you be interested in this and if so, would you please answer the poll?

why not do it this way
"send the shirt you want it on, get it back with the thingy on it"
??
A forum I used to go to for a dead Xbox live game did this.
:)
That way I can get it on a bright yellow tshirt

That's pretty tight too. I'd move the logo a bit closer to the left, think about where your heart is. It should balance out the image once printed. Unless you go bigger, at which point I'd do it in the middle. my Type-A graphic designer personality typing btw. Obviously, do a thou will.. ;) I'm very happy you are enjoying it.

Also, places like CVS, Walgreens, and Wal-Mart do mugs through their website photo labs. They will often have great promos around the holidays!

I'm still poking around for a good price for the mugs. Right now it seem to have that printed on a mug somewhere is around 20 with shipping if they will do it. 2 places have shot it down saying copyright laws prohibit them from doing it :( I will give walgreens a look and see if they can do it
