Hey guys, I have a chance to get a PC Engine Shuttle in good condition with a Shuttle controller and AC adapter/AV cable for around $70 shipped to me. I'm not too interested in it myself but I know it's somewhat hard to come by. The shipping from Japan would knock the price up a bit but if anyone is interested please let me know!
-
I don't want it personally, but it's great of you to offer.
-
It's a little pricey but I might pick it up anyway. Someone might be interested in the future. It's a strange piece of hardware.
-
I'm not interested in the system but the controller looks cool and would be interested in that if you wanted to separate them.
-
And I'd be interested in the instructions if it has any.
-
Unfortunately this one doesn't have the manual. I'd prefer to keep the controller with the system as having a complete set tends to increase it's value quite a bit.

Ah well. Yeah, you're right about that. I got my boxed one for £70 iirc, possibly because it didn't have the manual or the original joypad. But I'd managed somehow to find one going at the same time, and snapped it up the second I'd actually won the Shuttle!
-
Well I've decided to buy the shuttle/pad and keep it for myself for the time being. If anyone is interested at any point feel free to make me an offer! As stated I'm not planning to sell the controller separate. I'll probably keep it as my main gaming pad if anything. Seems comfy.
-
Well I ended up buying this Shuttle and here she is!
It actually looks a lot cooler in person than I thought (never thought they looked that great),
but it's definitely big! Dwarfs the CoreGrafx.
The controller is comfy but I'm not sure if I like it any more than the regular pad.
Maybe I'm just used to the regular one?

Unfortunately the system has one problem though.
I posted this in the repair forum, but I think the soldering on the control port has become loose.
When I start up a game most of the time the Run button and left on the d-pad are unresponsive.
But if I jiggle the controller input to the left it seems to connect and I can play games perfectly.
I've tested this with a couple controllers and the result is the same.
I think the guy who sold it to me knew the problem as he posted "tested until the title screen only" and accepts no returns of course. Plus the guy was being really rude and short with me while I was messaging him to arrange payment and whatnot, which is extremely rare with Japanese sellers. I had a seller today who told me I should take care not to catch a cold with this sudden turn in the weather! Oh well, you're bound to run into some shady sellers from time to time.
Anyway, this doesn't seem to be too big of a problem, as on the repair forum someone said you could just reheat the soldering contacts of the controller unit as they sometimes get loose with time or rough handling.
Has anyone had any experience fixing these kind of problems? I've soldered things before wiring up custom controllers and whatnot but I also don't want to totally ruin this system if it's tricky.

Looks awesome. I've always loved the look of the shuttle. Never realized they were that big, for some reason I always thought they were smaller. Have you opened it up and had a look at that connection yet? The issue may be just some loose solder joints. This happened on my brothers Genesis when he bought it, right away the controller wasn't working right so we got another, identical problem. So he cracked it open and had a look and sure enough it needed to be re-soldered, fairly easy solder job.
-
Well it's definitely an oddball system! Nothing looks quite like it. It's almost the exact size and weight of a model 2 Genesis. Not bad but I really love the compact Core Grafx and will probably keep using it as my main gaming system. Glad I have the Shuttle as a collector though!
Haven't cracked it open yet as I don't have the tool that fits the screws on the bottom. Do you or anyone else know a cheap place to get one? Seems like the solder joints are the problem though, but my soldering iron is in the states. I could buy a new one here but I'll probably just fix it later.

Provided it uses the same type of security screws as the TG16(same used on many consoles from Sega and Nintendo), which I'm betting it does, then all you need is a 4.5mm game bit like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-8-4-5mm-Game-Bits-Tool-Open-NES-N64-SNES-GameBoy-Genesis-TG16-System-Cartridge-/260858704589?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbc63f2cd. If you look for just the 4.5mm bit alone it will be cheaper. I've got a set and they are very handy for opening up both consoles and carts, mine was a real life saver when my Virtual Boys screens were going out and needed to be repaired.
Out of curiosity What are you in Japan for? Studying abroad, business, extended vacation? I'm assuming your not a permanent resident since you just said have stuff over here. :P
-
Yeah it looks like the same bit! I'll probably buy a set when I move. Like I said no big rush.
I actually am a permanent resident in Japan (for the last 8 years or so). I work out here.
But I left a bunch of stuff (including most of my US game systems/games) at my parents' house. I'm planning to move back to the states this spring.

The Shuttle should have been the design they went with for the TurboGrafx-16. Granted, they'd have to figure out how to attach a CD to that beast, but back in the late 80s, that crazy spaceship design would've been bad ass.
-
That shuttle is pretty darn cool... but not quite as cool as that WM1 I see down there below it... :D
-
Yes, the Wondermega... It really is my pride and joy. The only way to experience Megadrive/Genesis/MegaCD games!!
-
I'm pretty jealous!
I tried winning a shuttle pad again but was outbid.
Also I can't believe how many of these pop up missing the Hu card dust cover, that's the coolest part!
-
that is very cool even with the problem... i would trade you a full set of my spine sticker labels (not sure if i already sold some to ya?) and some cash for it?
that is a system i always was keen to get. Could ya PM me man if your still interested in selling? thanks
-
Picked up another Shuttle earlier this week. PM sent!
-
Is it for sale?
-
At some point yes! I am going to try to fix the controller input issue first.
-
Well congrats, I'm sure you'll fix it. And SOOO jealous of your Wondermega!
If you ever do come across instuctions for the shuttle (unlikely) let me know. I'm gonna do a bit of looking now...

Mad-gear's booth at MAGFest had a boxed Shuttle for $350. Dunno the going rate for CIB, but too high for my blood. Though, I'd love to have one since I love me some HuCard shooters and the fact that you CAN'T attach a CD-ROM is hardcore (I'll take a Core in lieu of course)

Yeah, $350 is a bit high for a boxed Shuttle but they are hard to come by. I've only seen a couple for sale over here and they tend to be a pretty expensive.
-
Imported systems at conventions always cost retard prices.
400$ for a loose duo-rx in my hood last year ..
