Title: Need: Briefcase unit
Post by: Arkhan on November 08, 2011, 03:47:21 AM
I've got my super grafx9000 w/ RAU-30 just begging to be connected to a briefcase unit.

I also want a briefcase unit because they're awesome.

Does anyone have one?  if so, how many moneys for it.

I want the full setup.  If you've got one with a busted CD drive for cheaper, that may work better since I can shove the black CD in it for a multiracial love fest.

I believe Keith Courage has a spare one.  Might ask him about the details.

You just want the Interface Unit itself or are you looking for anything else with it, like a CoreGrafx, CD-ROM2, etc?

If you are just looking for a naked Interface Unit, this site (which is very reliable) has them for 174 yen. That's about $2!

http://www.suruga-ya.jp/database/262001532001.html

Here are a few current auctions:

http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b125161998 (with a core grafx 2)
http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w67493916 (looks to be in good shape)

I have a IFU with a busted CD-ROM2 that I don't need but the case has a pretty decent scratch on the front so I don't know if you'd be interested.

I think forum member coolmod said he has a bunch of them with the broken cdromrom so if you don't need the cdromrom maybe you can talk to him. He's in the US  too I believe.

Yeah lets see everyones broke-ass CDRomRoms w/ IFUs.

I'd like the full setup in working order because you can never have too many fully working, but, lets see what people have.

Here's mine. I was looking for a spare CoreGrafx and this popped up untested for around $25. Figured it was worth the gamble but the CDROM unit is busted. I know a guy that can fix them but I'll probably just buy a working unit later on. The briefcase unit is the sex. The original DUO comes in at second place, and the R/RX is third for me as far as looks goes.

That's what the RAU-30 is for, it connects to the SuperGrafx's expansion port and then goes to the suitcase where a PC Engine would go.

Yeah it ends up looking like this monstrosity!

Wow, and looking at this here, it seems that the Supergrafx is a little bigger than a complete suitcase unit.
What a pig!

Also, while we are talking about weird suitcase combos, look at this crazy set up:

Can anyone identify that orange thing sticking out of the front of the LT?
He's got a US CD unit so maybe it's some kind of HuCard converter? I'm not aware of any US to Japanese converters though.

Oh ok I see, I've never heard of the RAU-30 either. :P I'm pretty sure it is a converter and I could have sworn I actually saw one somewhere for sale recently. Does that mess in the second picture actually play??? Or is it the NEC equivalent of the Sega tower of power?

Don't see why it wouldn't work! Not sure why you'd need all of those controllers though. I think the guy is just showing off.

Ah and the Sega Tower... It's a shame the guy didn't use a model 1 Genesis/SegaCD combo as it would make it even bigger and taller.

oh I thought the LT can fit into the white pce/CG/CGII slot in the briefcase unit?

I believe you can if you modify the IFU but officially you need to use the special adapter.

Personally, I think that Tower of Power guy cheated.  He used Sonic and Knuckles twice.

And am I the only one whose Briefcase unit has a lid, or are you guys just not using it in the picture?  (I hold it open with a spent mechanical pencil so I never have to fully remove it).
Title: Re: Need: Briefcase unit
Post by: Samurai Ghost on November 09, 2011, 08:32:48 PM
I have a lid but I took it off for the picture. Why not remove it full when you play? It's not like it damages anything.
Being able to seal everything up is awesome though. You can protect it from the sun/dust as well as making it fully portable.

Mostly because I don't have anywhere else to put the lid, and because the pencil is part of a union and demands work.

You do not have to mod the IFU to place the LT directly into it.  They are both made to be compatible without the RAU-30.  You do need either the RAU-30 or the SCD/LT adapter to use the LT with the SCDRom2 (unless you take a hacksaw to the SCDRom2  .)

The setup that Samurai Ghost is showing should work IF the LT is region modded.  The Kisado and Gunhed implies that you are using it on a US system - which the LT is not.  Also, I don't believe the converters work on any of the Japanese systems - only on the US setups (and possibly European & Korean).

That Sega vacuum is hideous.  This is the vacuum that you want:

But where would you put that thing? There is no shelf known to man or Japanese apartment that could hold that beast. You'd have to strap it to your back and play standing up.

So wait who all has lids for sale with their briefcase units.   You gotta put it in the picture so I know it exists, lol

I've always wanted a briefcase unit, but it's hard as hell to find one where the CD Rom hasn't yellowed.  Speaking of which, A Locomotive, if you aren't going to fix that CD drive I'd be interested in buying it from you, just because it's still a good shade of white. I could either fix it or swap in the guts of a working yellowed unit into it.

Actually I think you are talking about my CD drive? I'm the only one who posted one so far.
I'd be willing to sell it as is, but are you willing to pay shipping from Japan? It shouldn't be too expensive to sell just the CD drive. The color isn't bad but it's a little more ivory color in real life. It looks a bit lighter in the picture, but it's not yellow.
