I would have loved for any kind of Mega Man game. Contra also always comes into my mind to.... ahh at least i can dream
-
I would've like to see ports of Zanac, Metal Gear, River City Ransom, and Castlevania.
-
More run n' gun games, like Contra as TurboDawg mentioned, would've have been very nice to have, but I could care less about Mega Man since I hate the bastard. Overall, I think I would love to see more shooters.
Rolins, there is a River City Ransom port for PCE SCD! However it's not such an easy game to find and it's expensive!
-
I agree, we needed more MegaMan and Metroid -esque games.
I would love if more side-scrolling action-RPG's made it to the TG-16 (Ys III-esque but BETTER, like Zelda II, Faxanadu, Battle of Olympus, etc.)
Rygar (NES, not arcade version), Bionic Commando (ditto about NES not arcade) and Karnov (yes!) are additional side-scrolling platformers with much more depth than typical to the genre... they would have been great as well (you explore, must collect items, specific items must be used to progress, etc.)
I would have loved some games like Iron Tank (SNK) and Jackal (Konami) -- top-view "vehicle" games with a bit of depth (some exploration, plus for Jackal, there was hostage-rescuing; for Iron Tank, there was weapon and fuel management).
I think TG-16 could have easilly handled a kick-ass conversion of Data East's original "RoboCop" (arcade). Yeah, back in the day, I loved that movie so much that I loved the game too, even though it was pretty standard game.
:)
I would have loved if more point-n-click adventures made it to TG-16 (the entire Lucas Arts catalog, for starters) -- granted, they were passe by the time TG-CD / DUO were released, but I would have liked to see them.

Thanks for the info Keranu. I had no idea they made one for the pce.

Oh man that would have ruled, it wasn't until recently that I've been able to actually play the old Lucas Arts point & click games I missed back in the day (through emulation on dosbox on my Xbox). Loom was great, but a port of Monkey Island II or Indiana Jones would have been AWESOME.

How about another Bonk game like Bonk RPG? I think that would have been a disaster, they knew what they were doing when the killed that one. The only way that would have worked is if they would have hired square/enix to make something worth playing ala super mario rpg.
Okay here's my list of games that should have it the tg16:
Arcade Port - Knight's of the Round - The Snes Port sucked ass.
Shooter - None, I don't like them that much and I'm satisfied with what we already have.
Fighter - See Shooters.
Action RPG/Strategy - ActRaiser
RPG - Final Fantasy VI (III) I think this would have made an excellent CD game and I know that this game is SOOOO played out but I still love it and why not, Chrono Trigger.
Platformer - I love all Capcom Disney games so if they can do Darkwing and Tailspin throw me so Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers with bigger in game characters and bosses.
Puzzle Games - Mindrec's got this covered.
Light gun games - much respect to Hudson and NEC for staying away from these.
FMV Games - Night Trap? Why not they ported it to the 3DO.
Sports - Tecmo Super Bowl, NBA Live '95, Baseball Stars, Blades of Steel or EA Hockey '93 where you can makes Wayne Gretky's head bleed.
By the way Turbodawg, great topic!
-
May as well make the TG16 a SNES?
-
The Atari and Amiga comps have perfect ports of Robocop if I remember right.
I had the RoboCop aracde board, and the marquee.I sold the board to soemone local, and the marquee on ebay 3 years back for well over 60 bucks.
-
Haunted Castle,Time Killers,Shadow Dancer,Fighters History,Rastan 1,Double Dragon 1,Renegade,Arkanoid,P.O.W,Fatal Fury,Magican Lord,even if it needed the arcade card,just to see how it would have been,Nam 75,Narc,Mortal Kombat,Smash TV,Pit Fighter,Mechanized Attack,Lethal Enforcers,Bare Knuckleheads,Aliens Konami arcade game,and yea,Contra and Super C.
-
Final Fantasy in general would've been great on Turbo Duo CD. Hey I wish someone make a mock game case for any FF.
And I always imagined if there was a Turbo Megaman game. Hell one day I spent 45 minutes in the shower brainstorming over ideas for a Turbo Megaman game if I could make one.
Let's see I'd make:
>Stealth Man
>Atom Man
>Flood Man
>Optic Man
I know that's only 4 but that's coming off the top of my head.
-
Space Fantasy Zone, but designed so that it was actually good and not the steaming pile that nearly got released.
-
I wish Bonk RPG would have come out and that they would have been smart and taken the offer on the exclusive Mortal Kombat. That would have moved some consoles...
-
Contra
Rygar
MetalGear
Pinball hey afther Alien and Devil it should have another.
Rush'N Attack
The Goonies
Ikari Warriors
Mortal Kombat hey could have helped u.s sales.
-
Someone mentioned Faxanadu, remember there were PCE CD versions of Faxanadu and Faxanadu 2 as Xanadu in Japan.
-
Hey I wish someone make a mock game case for any FF.
You're wish is granted, long live Jambi. Game Express (who make games that are sex parodies of popular games, like Strip Fighter II' for PCE) made a Final Fantasy mock game called "Hi-Leg Fantasy" which is like a Final Fantasy game, but perverted of course :D . Here is some information for the game (http://pcecp.com/index.php?mode=catalog&action=info) but it's not very much. Kind of hard to find a site with a lot of screenshots and info for it. Unfortunately the game is expensive and rare (Around $100 these days, right?) and requires the special Game Express CD card to run it.

Someone mentioned Faxanadu, remember there were PCE CD versions of Faxanadu and Faxanadu 2 as Xanadu in Japan.
I have the first installment (I don't think I have the sequel)... but these aren't side-scrolling action-RPG's like the NES version! That's what I want to see more of!
Sorcerian (DUO) -- this is the gameplay I'm talkin' about (well, I haven't played much of this game, but I'm hoping it's like NES Faxanadu!)
Any info to clarify this / help me locate similar games would be greatly appreciated!
BACK ON TOPIC: I liked Blaster Master (NES) and I loved Camerica's NES games (Micro Machines for TurboTap -- how righteous would that be?)
And I love all the Lolo games... I'd have loved to see a PCE installment!
And I loved SMB2 (US)... I forget the name of the original Famicom title... that would have been swell on the PCE! Don Doki Don... I think that HuCard is related to the series.
-
Man, there's so many games I wanted to see on PCE.
Gradius 3
Ajax
Contra
SF2' Turbo
Sky Shark
Final Fight
any Namco game on CD (can you believe they never made a PCE CD game!?)
One of the decent Macross arcade shooters
The list goes on and on. Although PCE has a lot of good shooters, I really wanted to see some of the big name shooters of the day on PCE. More Contra and Final Fight style games would have been nice too.
-
Black Tiger, that was one I always played at the arcade but never got a home release on any system that I'm aware of.
-
TMNT,Bad Dudes,Two Crude Dudes,Raiden 2.
I cant think of too many of the other "major" shooters, because at the time,it had ports of all of them about except for R-Type 2 and Gradius 3.
It had Hellfire,Zero Wing,Raiden,Gradius 1 and 2,Salamander,Parodius,Air Busters,Side Arms,Forgotten Worlds,plus more Im forgetting for sure.
Yea your right about the lack of Final Fight, should have been ported over.As it stands, the X68000 and Sega Cd are it for full arcade type port.
Snes as usuall sucked on that port.I heard the GBA port was good.

I think the original template for SMB2 in Japan was called the Dream Factory. I loved that game, and so it seems did everyone else...it and zelda were in the top 3 on NP for months and months. faxanandu was a great game, and i almost flipped when you guys mentioned it has a PCE port. :( wha tabout wizards and warriors? or Solomon's Key? Crystalis? I always loved castlevania 2 as a sidescrolling RPG that could have been soooo much better, creepier..and challenging. The mansions were just too easy...but its concepts at the time were very novel..I would love to see a major PCE scd remake with everything we'd have liked to have seen in it. The dragon warrior games would have been awesome too...
Then there is Fester's Quest....

<sigh> talking about all those classics is probably why I'll invest in the Revolution:)
-
I think Faxanandu is also on a Falcom Classics remake disc for the Saturn with Ys.
-

PCE does have a clone Solomon's Key type, game and that's Zipang.
Heck it plays like Solomon's Key only with a samurai theme.
Btw it's even by Tecmo.

No way! I'll have to check that out! Thanks for the heads up :)

Mike Tyson's punchout woulda been pretty cool. what about more wrestling games!
-
i wish the PCE had been around long enough to get at least 1 real first person shooter. given the abundance of accessories for this system, i bet Hudson would have made some crazy multi system link like the Jag had for Alien vs Predator.
Or imagine a two-player Doom turbochip with two Turbo Express systems linked together.

The hardware isn't really capable of producing this kind of game though...the closest we got to it was Silent Debuggers. I could write a raycaster for the hardware but it would be painfully slow...
There were STRONG rumours at one point in time that the port of Mortal Kombat was not only mostly complete, but also for the ACD as an attempt to bring the ACD to the US. I've been trying to get more information about this over the past couple of months but it seems most my leads have turned out to be dead ends. I'll keep poking for info though...there's gotta be SOMETHING solid out there on the subject.
I simply would have liked to have seen the ACD come to American shores, and with it, the host of games it runs. I think that not bringing it out in the US was the nail in the coffin.
-
There was no link for Alien vs Predator. It worked for Doom. Also I think there was something called the CatBox,for Aircars, but I cant remember if Aircars came out.
-
Mike Tyson's punchout woulda been pretty cool. what about more wrestling games!
There is a cool, decent boxing game for PCE called "Digital Champ". I was just playing it the other day and I actually got past the first guy so I had a fun time playing it until I stopped when I made it to the fourth or fifth guy. There are also plenty of wrestling games on the PCE that never made it to USA, and some pretty interesting ones too like that Monster Pro Wrestling or whatever it's called! It was like a RPG/wrestling game, really cool.

Np plus it's a fun little game and very cheap to get too :D
-
Zipang is addicting.

I have this HuCard, but I don't think I ever played it! I'm gonna look for it -- and I might ask you for some pointers :)
Do your opponents taunt you? They probably don't, but it would provide a bigger incentive to dig it out :)
-
Nah, the opponents don't taunt. I used to always get killed in the first fight or get tired of the game and turn it off, but the trick is to hold down one of the buttons so you can pull off a super attack and use them often because they take off a crap load of damage, much more than doing a chain of multiple normal hits.
-
Well, don't be surprised if you see a Metroid-esque game someday......not to mention a Bionic Commando game.....though, more like a side scrolling Tenchu might be more accurate. :D Also, the game that became Super Mario 2 was called Doki Doki Panic, I think Tokimeki means dream in Japanese, I could be wrong, then again, Doki/Toki could be the same? Here's a link http://www.classicgaming.com/tmk/smb2_ddp.shtml#sounds
When it comes to Contra, Mindrec has that covered when PC Gunjin comes out. I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a Mega Man esque game eventually, but there's no plans that I know of yet. All 3 Castlevania's just might make it to the Turbo CD someday, possibly from several sources.....meaning several versions! There "will" be a Final Fight styled game, but, much better in my opinion. Faxanadu is another game, that might get a makeover on the Turbo, but once again, no immediate plans as of yet.
An Actraiser 1 style game is another game that's on my list of what I would like to create someday, so there's a chance of that as well. Frankly, I don't know why it's the ONLY game like it. Why they didn't continue the same formula with the 2nd is beyond me!
You can guarentee there will be more platformers someday, the Turbo didn't have enough of them.
Oh, btw, Faxanadu wasn't on the Falcom Classics, you're thinking of Xanadu, which is actually Dragon Slayer 2....& while I'm at it, for anybody who is now confused, here's the layout of the Dragon Slayer series in order:
1-Dragon Slayer(kind of like Tower of Druaga)
2-Xanadu
3-Romancia
4-Dragon Slayer 4: Drasle Family(US release Legacy of the Wizard)
5-Sorcerian(clearly says Dragon Slayer V on the logo)
6-Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes
6 part 2-Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes 2
7-Lord Monarch(makes no sense, but it's been confirmed as the 7th game)
8-Legend of Xanadu(clearly says Dragon Slayer VIII on the logo)
9-Legend of Xanadu 2(says The Last of Dragon Slayer on the logo, so it might still be 8 part 2)
The only 2 games I'm missing in this series, is Romancia & Lord Monarch. I have Dragon Slayer & Xanadu on my Falcom Classics, Legacy of the Wizard on the NES, Sorcerian on Turbo, Legend of Heroes 1 & 2 on both the Turbo & Saturn, & both Legend of Xanadu's on the Turbo. To complete it, I could pick up Romanica for the FC, & Lord Monarch for the SFC.
On Black Tiger, it might see a release on Capcom Classics 2 for PS2 & Xbox, we just have to wait n' see!
As for FPS's, the closest thing we got, was Faceball, it's deffinitly an FPS, moreso then Silent Deguggers, but still, I don't know how much farther the Turbo could go past Faceball.
Mortal Kombat, pretty sure it never got into development, as I recall hearing that Hudson of Japan wasn't convinced that US gamers really wanted that game(unfortunatly, alot of the downfall of the Turbo, is due to Hudson's view on what US gamers want, & don't want, so there's no real reason to ever blame TTI). It was a common problem back in the day according to my original sources. But anyone searching for more leads on MK or whatever, by all means, don't give up, there's always the possibility of false info, even from connections with TTI. MK being ACD is a new one to me btw.
Well, I think I covered everything that I'm capable of covering, back to making more music for Frozen Utopia games *bwa ha ha*
-
I would have loved to see the best port of Head Over Heels ever.
PD> There's no DS9. Legend of Xanadu 2 is the second part of DS8 :)
-
I would have loved to see the best port of Head Over Heels ever.
I've never played this game... I did a quick search and it seems to be an isometric game for the Speccy, huh? Once of these days I'll get around to playing Knight Lore... I only recently discovered the UK computing scene (thanks Retro Gamer, R.I.P.) and I'm having a blast reading the magazines archived online.
anyway, I was expecting you to list Inca / Inca II ...
...just kidding... :)

Yeah, I wondered about that. I actually started to write that it might be part of 8, but for some reason, I ended up getting an emoticon, wierd.
-
Ahh, I love the whole Dragon Slayer series. It's so huge.
