Title: Region Lock disable - Is a switch required?
Post by: mamejay on November 27, 2011, 10:11:33 AM
Hey guys,

I did a region mod on a JAP supergfx for a mate of mine.  He got a pre-made PCB.
Got it installed and its working great.  I disabled the lockout pin by grounding pin 29.

My mate is insisting that there needs to be a switch to enable the lockout for some of the JAP games.
Is this correct?  I cannot find any information about and all my tests at home with about 20 hu-cards worked perfectly.
If it is correct does anyone have a list of games that require it?
Thanks

I think just a certain supergrafx game checks.

I've heard of that issue, though I've never experienced it myself.  The solution would be to just use a DPDT switch and use the second half of the switch to connect or ground the pin 29.  Kind of a pain, but might be necessary for that one SGX game :P

Cool.  Will replace the SPDT with a DPDT switch and add the pin 29 and GND to the other legs of the US/JAP of the switch.

I think there is like...one specific game that f*cks up on one specific hardware config. Personally I've never run into problems with just permanently grounding it.

It's Aldynes. Aldynes breaks if pin 29 is grounded.

But wasn't it even weirder than that? Like, it only breaks it if you have a SuperCDROM2 attached to your SGX?

Either way, one SGX game so...it only matters if you have a SGX.

I heard there was some issue with space harrier and pin 29 on a super grafx before as well. Can anyone else confirm this?
