Title: FS: Genesis and SNES reproduction carts
Post by: bartre on December 10, 2011, 07:03:01 PM
*UPDATE 8/28* As of 8/31/2012, I will stop taking orders for these. All current orders and any orders placed before that deadline will be honored, but it has become increasingly difficult to obtain the parts necessary for many of these repros, so i will be closing up shop.
I can build custom SNES and Genesis reproduction cartridges upon request. as it stands, my typical turnaround time is a little over a month, as i have to order labels from out of town. Here is a listing of some of the games i offer, with prices for each; click the images for a link to a gameplay video. Please also note, just because i don't have it listed doesn't mean it can't be done, just ask and I will at least look into it.
Genesis games - all $30 shipped for a loose cart, or $40 shipped for a cart and custom box.
SNES games - prices vary by game, loose carts only
$45 games -
$50 games -
$60 games -

I'll be the first to say that I am interested in these, althought i don't have the money for it right now. But I will be wanting a lot of repros made, mainly snes rpgs, and a few genny games too. right off your list I see Monster World IV, Star Ocean, Shin Megami Tensei, Tactics Ogre, probably a couple more on there too, but would also like (when I can afford it) The Dragon Quest Series and Ys IV if possible, and a few more I'm sure. The label reproductions look really good, do they look / feel exactly like original labels? There's a few NES games I would like to pick up as well if you happen to do those.

the labels aren't EXACTLY the same, but they're pretty close. as for dragon quest and Ys IV, yeah, those are definitely possible, with the possible exception of dragon quest III, as the rom was huge and I haven't figured that one out yet. as far as NES games go, i can do some, but I'm really not the best when it comes to those, I'd really suggest looking elsewhere.

I am interested in this! I don't care one bit about labels or boxes or reply cars or shrinkwrap or the bag it would have come in. I don't care about pirating US stuff I could just buy off eBay. I'm interested in playing games that have been translated only unofficially since the death of the SNES.
I assume you can't do games with accelerator chips, ie: Tales of Phantasia?
I'd love to have a cartridge of a few games. Off the top of my head a translated DQ VI would be the coolest. Wonder Project J, maybe.

sorry zeta, ToP is just about the only game I've come across that I can't do. also, i'd tell you to try the SNES Clock Tower, my favorite game on the system.

I'd be possibly interested in a copy of Secret of Mana 2 after the holidays. :) Also curious about Star Fox 2. Is it only a partial game or is it a full one?
Title: Re: IC? Genesis and SNES reproduction carts

star fox 2 never OFFICIALLY got finished. that said, some dudes finished and translated it and it turned out really well. so yeah, it's a full game.

This is what I'd meant. :P I knew it never got released but I wasn't sure on at what point the the game had been scrapped. Any idea what you would charge for the 2 games I mentioned?

Can you do an Fzero 2??
Title: Re: FS: Genesis and SNES reproduction carts
Post by: bartre on December 11, 2011, 03:27:50 PM
well, a star fox 2 i usually ask $70, and secret of mana 2 i'd ask $60, but I'd knock $10 off if you got both at the same time
beemer - yeah, f-zero 2 wouldn't be a problem
and no, i don't do boxes, it's easy enough to get em printed at kinkos or something

I am VERY interested in the SNES Dragon Quest games that were translated.
Dragon Quest I&2 Dragon Quest V, VI.
I'd want all three of those with labels. PM me with what it will cost me. :) Totally excited about this!

Hey, I'd love a copy of Alien Soldier for Genesis! I like the game but not enough to drop $100+ on it at the moment, so a repro would be great. Would you accept trades for games you are looking for, or just cash only? Also, how much would shipping to Japan run? Please PM me the details if you are willing to ship out here. Thanks!

Nice that you are offering the service for genesis repros bartre rarely i see any one do it.Most of the time i just see people offer nes&snes repros.I'd make a order but i'm currently in a deal with a person over at neo-geo.com,for a few genny repros.
Still i can suggest a few titles that people would want.
Mega Man The Wily Wars Pulseman Battle Mania 2 Eliminate Down Snow Bros Gley Lancer

Just found an old repro while going through some stuff, so I thought I'd offer it up here. it's a Star Fox 2 cart, but I didn't quite use the right donor so it won't save. the only thing the game saves anyway is the scores. so if you don't care, i'll knock $20 off the usual price, to $50 or, if you want me to put a label on it, it's just $5 more

Cant believe people are forgetting about Earthbound.
Would that be a game you could repro? How much if possible.
Title: Re: FS: Genesis and SNES reproduction carts
Post by: SignOfZeta on December 13, 2011, 07:21:31 PM
Can't you just...buy Earthbound? I don't much see the point in making repros of stuff that got official release.
Title: Re: FS: Genesis and SNES reproduction carts
Post by: SMF on December 13, 2011, 07:26:13 PM
Yea I could but I don't like paying over $100 for a snes game. If its something that's easy to do it has to be cheaper then paying eBay f@ck me prices.
Title: Re: FS: Genesis and SNES reproduction carts
Post by: munchiaz on December 13, 2011, 07:29:04 PM
the point of repos is to make stuff that hasnt been released in your region. im sure if you want a earthbound cart you could fine one for less than it would cost for a repo
Title: Re: FS: Genesis and SNES reproduction carts
Post by: SMF on December 13, 2011, 07:36:27 PM
That's true, But dam at this rate I'm never gonna own it. Even used at places like the Exchange its $140. Can't see paying that for a snes game. Just didn't think it would hurt to inquire was all.
Title: Re: FS: Genesis and SNES reproduction carts
Post by: Samurai Ghost on December 13, 2011, 10:52:39 PM
I was going to say the same thing to him about Earthbound but after I had a look at eBay I have to say I understand the feeling. I hate when common, high-print run games have inflated prices just because they are good games or have a cult following. If a game is truly rare or had a limited print run I don't mind paying for it as a collector, but people are asking $100 for a loose Earthbound cart, and hundreds for CIB copies. WTF?! There were at least 150,000 copies of this game made. Compare that to some other equally enjoyable games with print runs in the low thousands selling for LESS than CIB Earthbound... It just cries bullshit, and at that point I'd probably just buy a repro before supporting that kind of inflation.

honestly dude, just be patient with that game, i got mine for $17 because the guy on craigslist "knew how valuable it was" that said, i also got harvest moon on the system for 3 tacos from a friend, neither one of us knew the value until like 6 months later. bottom line, just watch craigslist and garage sales, it'll turn up, as was said earlier, it's a common enough game, it'll turn up for a decent price.
Title: Re: FS: Genesis and SNES reproduction carts
Post by: Samurai Ghost on December 14, 2011, 09:48:23 PM
Yeah, also try looking at lots of SNES games on Craistlist, open up each one and look at the pics or list of games. It's a common enough game, so it's bound to show up eventually.

yeah, the only reason i've got chrono trigger, secret of mana, yoshi's island, secret of evermore, and ogre battle is because i bought a big box off of craigslist. got quite the amount of shit, only cost me $75

I've got an odd request... I'm looking to find someone to take my Japanese RPGs and put the translated roms on them. No labels or sac cart would be required on your part. I had a guy who did the Dragon Quest series for me, but he seemed to vanish after he did my games.
The games I have right now are Seiken Densetsu 3 (aka Mana 2) and Chrono Trigger (I know it was released, but there is a fan retranslation I'd like on a cart.)
If I can find someone to do this there will be more in the future, I stopped ordering from Japan when my guy vanished.

Romanian Yiddish has a great term for people like this guy: Schvuntz. It is, quite literally, the fleshy part of a turkey's hind end that the tail-feathers are attached to. Colloquially, it is extremely derisive, implying that that the addressee is something of a rake and willing to take advantage, and seems to fit this guy to a 'T'.

Sending a pm re Wily Wars
Also, you may want to stick something on your labels/cases to ensure that people can't turn around and eBay them - maybe put a NO EBAY logo on it somewhere, like they did with some of the Sapphire repros.

People getting huge money for repros on ebay pisses me off more than gauging on the official stuff. It's like if you took 30 seconds to google the game you never saw when you were little you would see that you could get it for 35-65 bucks.
Back to these I traded bartre for a Brave Battle Saga and Langrisser 2 and he does great work. BBS was a good game I was suprised to see it was a Tawainese boot when i finished it.
I'd recommend that one if you are in the 16 bit RPGs. I plan on picking up a Mega Man at some point.

I rant about gougers all the time, but I fully support repro gougers on ebay. They're the one form of gouger with whom I have almost no qualms. They don't capitalize on scarcity or plunder relics from previous generations or drive prices up or speculate on future "investments". No, repro gougers simply feed on the only people lazier than resellers: buyers so impulsive and rich that they can't be bothered to do a single google search before making a hundred-dollar purchase.
Using the internet is a basic life skill in first-world countries. It's on par with tying shoelaces, staying out of credit card debt, and not drinking soda for breakfast. The participants in one-hundred-and-thirty-dollar bidding wars for Earthbound Zero on ebay are the worst sort of spendthrift, wastrel, idiots imaginable.

I'm happy with my Secret of Mana 2 repro cart I got somewhere. Has the 3-player mod in addition to the English patch. My brothers and I were finally able to follow-up our epic three-player game of Secret of Mana we had so many years ago.
On problem was that the sacced cart they used had a dead battery. Had to replace that.
Wouldn't mind getting Star Fox 2 and some other repro carts some day.
