hey guys... i have a shit ton of old vhs christmas cartoons, I have a sony dvd recorder that works great on the majority but i need a video stabilizer to get by the macrovision on some vhs.
Any suggestions on something that would work? or what do you think of this product? http://www.amazon.com/digital-video-stabilizer-Capture-Recorder/dp/B004YTW5SI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1324867299&sr=8-2
Ya i know using a PC and other setups would work equally as well, but would like to keep to the equipment i have as i am happy with it and plus i am a MAC guy which even limits me more for software/hardware <<blush>>
ALSO this is for personal use, i am finding a lot of old xmas cartoons have gone missing from viewing over the years, or don't play as there not appropriate these days. <<shrugs>> Even as digital files some are nowhere to be found or bad quality.
Any thoughts would be cool, and merry xmas :)

Rad idea, wish I had some knowledge on the subject. When I converted a bunch of old VHS tapes I went straight from my VCR to my PC, and it was fairly hassle-free. I suppose the price on that thing is high enough to where you can't just buy it on a whim to see if it works.
I'm sort of a Christmas fan (I watch movies and play music off and on throughout the year -- yes, I know I'm a weirdo), so I definitely support the effort to save the old classics from oblivion. I hope someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Do you still have that camcorder you were trying to sell? You may be able to record to it and then transfer the file (or tape if it was tape-based) to your computer. When I recently converted my VHS copy of Gunhed to a DVD (*ahem Secret Santa spoiler*) I used my Canon HV-30 camcorder for the capture. I have a USB video capture device, which I use for a lot of my Turbografxnerd YouTube videos, but it's not as clean and detailed as the HV-30.
This is the capture device I use for my YouTube videos: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-S-Video-Composite-Capture-SVID2USB2/dp/B000O5RIWO) though I don't think it works on Macs.
