Is there any real differences between the Hu Card and CD versions of Bonk III other than the redbook music?
-
OH YEAH AND HOW THERE IS!!
pics will drop in soon.
-
Bonk III Super CD has Vs mode. 4 extra mini games on it. Class is over.
-
Okay . . . was just asking is all. Never owned the CD is all.

That's ok I was just being a smart ass lol. Yea besides the sound and 4 vs games its the same. Its purely a colecors game.
-
There is more... try searching the forums... I believe the CD has fewer frames of animation for some of the sprites?
I don't own the CD, either.
-
CD big Bonk stinks a lot compared to Huey big Bonk.
-
Yeah, the CD version is missing sprites for huge Bonk.
-
Bonk III CD is missing a huge amount of sprite animation and artwork, but no one has gone through to carefully pick out everything that was cut from the HuCard version. The CD version has a different credits and maybe the ending. The CD game appears to be a sloppy port by TTi and not Hudson/Red.

Hmm, well then I guess I need to try and snag the Hu Card then. :P

Yeah if you don't mind paying a couple hundred dollars on ebay:

Thats the best deal they got right now, pretty ridiculous. Better off just burning the iso to a cd.

The PCE ver is $40 max.

That sounds much better.

I picked up my Bonk 3 Huey for $17 used at Video Replay. It ain't there anymore now but I was 16 and in the glass case he had a stack of Hu-cards I asked to see them and BAM BONK 3. Fast forward a few years and Toys-r-us I think had Duo games on sale I snagged Bonk 3CD for $30 I think. Sucks they go for so much now a days.

My old source deffinitly makes me believe it was by Hudson, not TTI. It was actually a gift to TTI, they didn't have to pay a dime for it. I think that's why it's quick & dirty. Though, I do wonder, do we know for sure that all the frames taken out was due to lack of memory, or were the coders just lazy?
Anyways, for the CD version, there are a few more layers of paralax. :D
No, but seriously, the CD version doesn't have the same title screen song. Instead, it kind of rehashes the ending credits theme.
I've often thought of recomposing the music myself, to give the songs a more Bonk 1/2 feel & sound. I just haven't had any time. Maybe someday I will, or atleast something Bonk related.

Bonk 3 should always be played on a hu-card, unless you have a friend around. Then you may want to put in the CD. That's my rule of thumb anyway.

I guess that adding Johnny Turbo and his male companion was also a gift.

Hah, I think Johnny Turbo was just straight up punishment IMHO :D

What's the story with PC Genjin 3 Taikenban (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-GENJIN-3-TAIKENBAN-not-sale-version-pc-engine-duo-import-jp-BONK-hu-card-/320811217849#ht_500wt_931)?

I'm curious of that myself - was it to cut down on load times? maybe make it load less info? very weird.

It was both laziness and memory space. Well programmed games like Dracula X, which is loaded with animation, show how much can be packed into 2 megs of space. Since this was a TTi-only release, it was slapped together with a minimal amount of effort and the proof is the end result. They probably just looked at what the smallest stage section was in memory size, figured out how much needed to be cut to program in each section the exact same way and then took it straight out of Bonk's animation, since it's the common denominator throughout the game.

As far as I know it was used as a promotional item for the release of PC Genjin 3 and only contained the first level of the game.
