Title: Craigslist Fails (Hometown Gougers Thread)
Post by: Mathius on January 02, 2012, 04:54:19 PM
Gouging invades Craigslist (it probably did a long time ago but I probably didn't notice).

Post your local gouging lols here!

I think that's a somewhat normal price now, sad to say.

You can get it for half that (give or take) even on Ebay....

well, it says it has the box and booklet, but still, i'd say $100 is too much.
MAYBE $75 for me, but then again, i got my copy for $10, so eh.

I can't really say that I am going to miss the RockBand/GH phase. These dumb fake instruments stuff so many used game shops that they literally tumble out onto the sidewalk when you attempt to enter one.

Good thread, the only problem is these links disappear a lot faster than eBay links because of the way CL works.

Perhaps cut and paste to make them more permanent?

^ i guess there was a story on gonintendo that some kid lost 100 pounds playing rockband (drums) would have lost more playing a real drum set

Deff would have lost more, Good to hear he lost weight but atleast with a real set he could create his own beats and who know what he could become.

In a few weeks these links will all be dead.  Take a screenshot of the pages and host them on imgur.com for archival purposed and future LOLs.

$4000 for this lot...:/...I see at most $1000. Duo ($200) w/ 77 games ($10 ea = $770, and that is being generous). Guess he thinks that would be a lowball. Being in Winston, I prolly know this cat.

4K is stoooopid, but there are certainly some games worth more than $10

While $4000 is definately reaching for the stars, $1000 is definately lowball.

Yeah but normally when you buy in a lot, especially if you're getting duplicates you need to get rid of eventually, you need to factor in some sort of bundle discount as well.  No way am I going to buy a bundle of stuff if the total value is equal to what it would cost separate if I only need like half of it.

Usually, when I list a bunch if games on craigslist, I have reasonable individual prices and then a price for the lot, which is around 50 - 65% of the total of the individual prices.

By the systems there it looks like he stockpiled stuff he found on his normal thrifting runs. That would be my assumption.

I have no doubt the ad itself is real.  What I was wondering is if someone is actually demented enough to actually be serious about an ad like that.

Well $4k dude split up his bundle on CL. He now is asking $700 for the Duo w/ pack-ins (mostly). most of the games he list individually and "make me an offer, no low balls". He has a Cadash I want...I know what I'll pay, but I know he will see it as a low ball since he is asking so much for the rest of the lot plus he writes: "The value of this game is climbing rapidly"

The only thing "climbing rapidly" is all this nonsense.

I've seen that lot for a while now on CL. Seller keeps relisting it...hope springs eternal I guess. All that gear just takes up space, I figure they do not have WAF to contended with.

Do you have to flip it upside down to get those Tekken matches going?

Woah. You better jump on that. Actually it has probably already been bought. Last sealed copy went for $40,000 I believe. Wish listings like that popped up around Indiana.

I guarantee that listing was put up as a joke. Like the folks that list a dozen pricey games (EB, CT, etc) and pretend they are practically giving them away just to watch the greedy resellers try to swoop in.

While it more than likely is a joke, these things can and do actually occasionally happen. I wouldn't just giggle and walk away if you see these in the future.  You may just be walking away from the real deal.

You'd think if this was a possibility, the robber would be asking more than $20 for it.

It's totally someone trolling.

While I agree with you that it's probably the case.  I'm not so quick to dismiss cases like these. Think of some of the finds people have had here on the forums.  How about Syphic and his epic sealed Turbo game find?  How about my Craigslist Turbo find where the lady just has "some" Turbo stuff (photo below). Or how about my 4882 sealed game find off Craigslist (photo below with cases stacked 4-5 cases deep) where the seller just had a "couple cases" of sealed games for sale.  These things really can and do happen.  I'm just not so quick to dismiss them.

That picture is from an auction from a few years back that went for 21,000 or so. That's how I know it's fake.

Plus, the pics all have different backgrounds and nobody truly ignorant of their value would luckily pick out only the three rare/pricey titles for more attention.
