Title: Okay, I've had enough! Explain your avatar!
Post by: MotherGunner on January 07, 2012, 09:47:49 PM
This is a thread for those like me who wonder "What the Hell does his (or the rare her) avatar mean and what is the story behind it*???"
Mine is PC Engine DUO-R logo made to look like a Turbo Grafx-16 Logo. I made it one day when I was bored and had decided I needed a logo that represents my love for PC Engine but needing to have an "American" flavor...
Proceed.
*meaning why did you choose to use that as your avatar?

Well mine is a picture of a model of the resurrected samurai Taira no Kagekiyo who is the main character of Genpei Tōma Den: Kan no Ni, released as Samurai Ghost for the TG-16. I really love the original game Genpei Tōma Den, and even though both of them are derided by critics they are a couple of my personal favorites on the PC Engine.

At the moment I use Hitsugaya from the anime Bleech. One of my favourite characters in the series and there was an avatar already available ;-)
May change it to something new soon though.

I have always been into comics, and there is no doubt that Superman is the greatest comic book character of all time (dispute this and get your face punched), so a Superman logo was the obvious choice. However, it'd be boring to do the standard S, so I mixed it up a bit. I used a picture of the never completed Tim Burton Superman, which stars one of the all-time great actors, Nick Cage as the Man of Steel himself. What a travesty this movie was never made :(
I figured there were already enough video game related avatars, so I went a different route.

Mine is just cross-eyed Shinobi which goes wonky if you look at it for a while. No story, just thought it was cool. Ironically, my avatar on many other sites are TurboGrafx-16 related either showing the proper logo or the system itself.

From the Wiki:
"William Stetson Kennedy (October 5, 1916 – August 27, 2011) was an American author and human rights activist. One of the pioneer folklore collectors during the first half of the 20th century, he is remembered for having infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan in the 1940s, exposing its secrets to authorities and the outside world. His actions lead to the 1947 revocation by the state of Georgia of the Klan's national corporate charter.[1] Kennedy wrote or co-wrote ten books."

I figured it was either Game Over or the Game Completed screen. I don't think I've ever played Magical Chase, and likely never will. I saw the PCE version on ebay the other day with a $180 BIN I think. Whatever it was, it was a LOT. Yeesh.

Mine is of my favorite character "Moriya Minakata" from the Last Blade fighting series.
This is one Neo Geo game series that most non Neo Geo owning gamers seem to have overlooked and is the best weapons based fighter series in my opinion. It has much more fun fast paced fighting than Samurai Shodown, even though I like that series as well. It plays like Garou Mark of The Wolves/KOF mixed with Samurai Shodown in a sense. You get some nice combos, deflecting moves, special moves, Super/Super Danger moves, character line-up, a damn awesome atmosphere with the graphics and sound, and a decent story line for a SNK fighter.
I highly suggest you try out LB 1 and 2 on real Neo Geo hardware (emulation if you have to) with a good arcade stick/pad first. Neo Geo CD versions are ok actually, but the load times are really bad along with a few animation cuts. I guess the other best options in this order are: PS2 collection JP, PSN version for PS3 JP, and the Dreamcast US/PS1 JP ports being the worse.
Seriously, give this series a good run. You will most likely love it.

I find that...amazing, that there could be two hardcore TS fans so close to each other. I think Mike had some sort of zine or he ran the fanclub or something, for ages. I know he interviewed Dee Snider for the local radio station once.
This guy has an indie game shop that has been going for...probably 10 years how, which is amazing for an indie shop. He's more into rock and metal than anyone I know, including bands that are, frankly, way way better than Twisted Sister, but for some reason TS is really important to him.

Ash from evil dead. I was really lucky to come across it on the net. One of my top favorite horror movies.
I'm a big fan of the Evil Dead series.
Ash is one of my favorite fictional characters ever created. He just gets the shit kicked out of him at every turn, but he never gives up. It just gets hilariously ridiculous how much pain he goes through. It's all classic! :)

My avatar is the box-art for the Hucard shmup "1943 Kai". It is one of my favorite shmups on the system, which may sound weird, but I absolutely dig the music and original stages. The arcade stages are too easy, but well ported, and Naxat did an amazing job with the new stages. A great collaboration between Capcom and Naxat! :D

My avatar choice was chosen for reason's not so much different as your own. A lot of the more passionate fans of the Turbo and PC-E, like to express that feeling with a unique name of something associated with those consoles or games that were exclusive to the consoles. I had some good ideas but, most of them were taken so, I started flipping through my game manuals to find a suitable name that only a TG16/PC-E fan would recognize and that's when I remembered that Blazing Lazers featured some enemy ships and stuff in it's manual with names.
The Shrapnoids are the meteors that burst into smaller shrapnel-like meteors that home-in on your Gunhed ship after you fire on them.
If you're battle skills aren't that good or your weapons aren't leveled up enough then, you're better off dodging the Shrapnoids.

Well, mine is Ryu Hoshi before he became the face of the Street Fighter franchise!....still can't believe he was a japanese redhead, heh. Call me an idiot, but Fighting Street was what got me most intrigued about the PCE CDsystem when it was released, 2 years later I managed to get one.

No it isn't. I've always wondered if it's a guy in bondage about to be raped or a dude with an invisible hatchet about to hack my head off. I've always thought it is the former, and it's pretty damn nasty.

Well my last name is Briede and my music director at the time would call me bread or beardy. So my friends started calling me Bread and then Dr just went with it. Now every screen name i have is DrBread. I also put out 2 albums under the name DrBread which gets confusing because there's also a DJ who goes by that name.
WELL anyway!!!
I just looked up DrBread on google images and i thought this image was funny.

I made my avatar by taking a pic of a cookie I made. But Beemer ate it! :( :(
Beemer ate your cookie?
See definition 3. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cookie
Yikes!
Wow, I've never heard anyone call a ladies pleasure spot, a cookie. Is that what people mean when they say "I'm going home tonight to eat lots of cookie!" or "I'm going to fingerbang that cookie so raw she'll be screaming for more!"
Regardless, no Roy. Not pussy. But if Beemer is getting some 'cookie' then sweet deal! It's just not my cookie. I don't didn't bake that kind of cookie. More of a traditional HuCookie. :P

Most airwolf games were terrible on any system sadly enough.
The only thing that could make it twice as terrible is a getting a signed copy from Jan Michael Vincent. (Assuming he is cognitive or sober enough to write his name correctly).

2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7
It's a WRC Rally Car for the street and the first in the 7-8-9 Evolution series. It has a lot of suspension tricks and a lot of boost to make it quite fast. 0-60 in the mid 4's out of the box and epic handling. That and it has 4 doors so quite practical. Easy to make faster too so it's basically an every day sports car.
Always loved this Video from Top Gear. My Evo has since surpassed the power made by this Evo.

Since someone else has a car avatar I'd figure I'll explain mine...
It's a photo of my 1999 FRC Corvette when I first purchased it. Its 100% bone stock, and with nothing more than some drag radials, it ran a 12.30 at 113.49mph with a 60ft time of 1.78 seconds. Haven't calculated 0 - 60 data from that run, but I'd guess its somewhere in the mid - low 4 second range. Hasn't been on the dyno yet, but most stock 6speeds put down around 300 rwhp. Not too bad for an untouched 14 year old Vette. Mods will be coming soon, as I can't leave anything stock for too long...

YOUR MISSION: Start reading this thread from the first post and find all the folks with such low post counts that we—essentially—have never seen the avatar, ever, outside of this thread. In fact, since this thread is still active, it is the only place this long forgotten avatars may ever see the light of day.
Hmmm...now it sounds.like a chore instead of a fun quest for the folks who are bored out there.

Favorite bad guys ever from one of my favorite movies!! The Cobra Kai! Sweep the leg!
I was reading a neat article a few months ago about "mis-remembered" famous quotes (from Shakespeare to Karate Kid to Star Wars) and I think "Sweep the leg" is an example of a line that is never actually said, but it captures a key scene in the film, so it persists in the popular collective consciousness.
"Luke, I am your father" is never actually uttered, either.
Crazy, huh?
I haven't seen Karate Kid for ages, I gotta watch it with my daughter. We attempted to watch it a few years ago...but she was too young to understand the TRUE GLORY of the film.
HAHAHA that Luke I am your father is quite often misqouted. However this line is said in a fairly popular movie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRtuwBvqV5c
This is probably what has kept it misqouted for so long. :)
