What is your opinion on the ugliest hand held consoles ever. My top 5 are:
1. The gizmondo: Bizzare shape and ugly trigger buttons coming out the top
2. Atar lynx model 1: Large and dog bone type shape did not do it for me
3. Sega Game Gear: Sorry folks, I got no love for its design
4. Gameboy micro: I know some of you love it, but i personally could not stand it
5. Gameboy advance: This ones tough as it depends on the color. Certain colors on this design looked terrible, while others looked just fine.
Once again, since hoobs missed it, here is my wifes pick for uglies hand held
Sega Game Gear
-
I gave five votes on the other polls, but this only needs one:
Cybiko.
-
Hush yo' mouf. I likes me cybiko. Bof of 'em.

Where you dropped as a child? Seriously, I demand an explaination. Have you actually used one? The screen is laser sharp, the buttons are neigh on perfect, the case is metal, it fits in any pocket, and it plays GBA games, which are awesome.
Don't give me that "everyone's entitled to their own opinion" bullshit either. I want answers! :)
-
Zeta, i hear you, and you are rightly entitled to answers ;)
Your not gonna believe me but i swear to you this is true. I cant stand the way the design on the top and bottom of curves in towards the screen. The screen is excellent i agree, but it's just way to small for what i will tolerate (the dingoo a320 was pushing it, but also has an excellent screen). And finally people with larger hands have learned to hate such small systems as playing it for even a short period of time becomes very uncomfortable. I"m straying away from the topic though, and the answer is i hate the design on the front.
And no, i was not dropped. I was born at the top of a pine tree, fell out and hit every branch on the way down. I"m so bright, my dad calls me son.......................

I get the bit about the Gameboy Micro. Man... that thing's a trainwreck for those of us who don't have girly hands.
-
Probably the Gizmondo, Game.com, or N-Gage.
The Game Gear is actually pretty comfy to hold and play for long periods of time.
-
Yeah, all the old handhelds were so much more comfortable than the new stuff.
-
I'd vote for either the n-gage, r-zone, or that epoch thing that Chris posted a while back.
-
ngage for me.
or GAME.COM or w/e it was called
-

Dog bone shape, Dinosaur Bone Size.
-
Just so that the people voting for N Gage know, there are two different N Gage units. Both are like an iPhone 4S compared to:

Also, there was an "upgrade" called, of course, the Cybiko Xtreme (barf):

Still think the NGage is the worst?
BTW, I had the chance to play a SNES emulator on the NGage QD. It wasn't that bad! The controls were actually decent and you don't have to talk into it sideways like the original. Overall though, yeah, f*ck that thing.
-
That ugly ass thing certainly looks worse than an n-gage, but it's about as much of a game console as a TI-85 is.

I always thought it looked neat. Fit really great in the hand, and had quite a few nice games for it. Loved deving on the thing, too.
And now you wanna go dissin another great machine.... I think I'll just go back to playing drug wars on my 85....
-
drug wars was awesome.

It has games, wireless versus mode, a built in email client...it LOOKS like a TI, sure, but that's not because it functions anything like a TI, it's just horribly designed.

No hate, merely pointing out that a device's ability to play games doesn't make it a game console.
-
I hate it.

I agree with the big hands thing but going off of looks the things f*cking sexy.
-
I would have to say:
1. The Atari Lynx 1
2. atari 5200
3.nintedo version 2
-
how big are your hands that you are holding onto an Atari 5200, dude.
-
N-Gage classic (You need to remove the battery if you want to remove the cart #-o)
Game.com
Virtual Boy (oh yeah! it supposed to be portable :-k)
-
Watara Supervision/Mega Duck/Cougar Boy. I mean, just look at those Dpads!

Perhaps you didn't see my picture of the Cybiko on the first page. I'll post another, this time with the upgraded version, the Cybiko Extreme:
There is no uglier handheld than these two. The look is best described as "my dog ate crayons". The Supervision is a PSP by comparison. Its horrendous. It wins the prize. Period.
-
I have to agree with Zeta.. That thing is terrible looking.
-
Direct from hell.
-
Lynx model 2, such an uncomfortable blob of plastic to play games on.

I don't think the lynx 2 was that bad now the lynx 1 was fugly, but both were horrible at eating up batterys.
-
Random thoughts:
(1) The Lynx (either version) wasn't ugly, you bastards.
(2) The DS/3DS (any incarnation) are not the prettiest things.
(3) Cybiko. Cybiko. Cybiko. Zeta, I had never even heard of that thing! Damn!
-
Lynx 1 = chef. no question. one of the best thing the americans did in the past 25 years.
DS Lite looks and feels awesome.
Cybiko(?), I've never heard of that..erm..thing either. and now, my life sure was better before the notice of that.

The Game Gear was better than the Sega Nomad. That thing is like a big square turd. Though I think the Nomad was a cool idea (stolen from some one? ;) ) if not a little too late. Would be cool to mod a Turbo Express with video out and and second controller port (or some sort of turbo tap out port).

I've always wanted a Nomad. Why is it a big square turd? I think it's genius that you can play the games on a TV and have a second player join in.
-
drug wars was awesome.
I flunked math class twice because of that game in high school.
I don't know if I should be proud of that lol...
-
The first Game Boy - It was white with a 4 shades of green screen. Can't get much uglier than that.
The First LYNX - Nice shape but, just way to wide.
I'm sure there are others out there but, none of them come to mind right now.
-
Why is it a big square turd?
By turd I just meant teh looks. It was just a BIG black square. If I remember right where the speaker was is sort of where you left palm covers it.
But, no, the device itself was awesome. Like you said, it was not 'just' a Genesis hand held. But it had video out! It had a second controller port! Yeah, that type of thinking/design made it actually awesome.

There was something kind of chunky-looking about the Nomad but, the first time I seen one, I still wanted it even in spite of it's looks.
-
Yeah, I agree the speaker placement doesn't look very well thought out.
I've never actually held one in person so I don't know how comfortable it is to hold or how good the screen is. I'm guessing (hoping) the screen is comparable to a TurboExpress and would guess the battery life is about the same (nothing to write home about), but still having a portable game system that plays nearly the entire Genesis library and has the ability to connect to a TV and play co-op is pretty freaking sweet, especially back then.
Of course nowadays I'm tempted to just get a Caanoo and be done with it. :P
-
No particular order but GBA Color, original GP32 and N-Gage. All unappealing and didn't want any of them... ever.
