Title: PC Engine Briefcase Units for Sale
Post by: Samurai Ghost on January 15, 2012, 03:27:47 PM
Hello everyone! I'm ready to start selling some briefcase units, so here is the new thread.
Right now shipping will be a bit steep as I am still in Japan, but to compensate I've lowered the prices as much as I can. Please PM me if you are interested so I can begin building your set up and testing it.

Since everyone seems to want a different set up I will list the components by price and you can pick what you want.
These are the base prices for the parts in good condition, but if you don't mind a yellowed or scratched unit I can lower the price a bit.

Refurbished and tested CD ROM2 unit: $90
Interface Unit (with cover): $20
White PC Engine: $20
PC Engine Core Grafx I: $40
Accessory pack (AC adapter/cables/system card/controller): $10
Box: $15

Shipping to North America/Europe will depend on what you buy as it is based on weight.
A rough estimate for a loose briefcase set up be around $65 for airmail shipping (SAL) and around $35 for surface, but it may be slightly more depending (and obviously a lot less if you just wanted a loose CDROM2 unit). I will test the units thoroughly before I send them out, but if you have a problem with the CD unit within 2 weeks of arrival I can talk to you about returns or exchanges. I know they are finicky systems and have a few that just refuse to work.

Here is a picture of some of the units I have available at the moment, although I have a few more coming in.

I'd still like one of the cd units, but at 35-65 for shipping, just can't see me getting one. A shame shipping costs so damn much, but understand that expenses such as fuel for the planes isn't cheap either. :(

If you just wanted a loose CD unit I expect shipping would be more around $15. The $35-$65 estimate is for a full set up with PC Engine/IFU/CD ROM/AC Adapter/Cables/controller/etc. All together it's pretty heavy, but the shipping would be a lot less if you just wanted part of it (a CD-ROM and IFU for instance).

I'd need the CD Unit, interface, and the hookups as well as a 1.0 system card if you have one. Have me a Core to operate it.

Yeah, I have all that! The IFU's aren't that heavy, and act as good protection for the CD Unit, so I could pack it up with minimal packaging and see how much it would cost to ship. As far as the hook-ups you can just use a standard RCA cable to connect it to your TV, and I have an off-brand AC adapter that is light-weight. So overall I could probably cut down on the shipping costs quite a bit (the CoreGrafx is actually the heaviest part). If you are interested let me know and I could check the exact shipping costs for you.

Yes, they are but I have a couple more in the works, so I thought I would make a separate post about them when everything is ready, as the price might change depending on how many working units I can get together.

Actually someone else in the UK wants the exact same thing so I'll post the shipping rates for that as soon as I find out the exact numbers.

OK, I should have some available in February. I will post a new thread at that time.

Thanks!

I might be interested in a white PC Engine, mainly to have a unit I can experiment on and bring to meetups. However if you have any Core Grafx systems for cheaper than your asking price, I'd be interested.

Thanks for all of the interest and PMs guys! Sorry I've been a bit slow responding to some of you; been dealing with a lot of requests in addition to having an extremely busy work schedule the past couple weeks. I'll try to get everything sorted out ASAP!

Hey guys, thanks for all of the interest! I've gotten a lot of PMs from various people and I don't have a lot of free time at the moment, so I'm trying to get together orders as best and as quickly as I can. I will try to get to everyone as soon as I can, so please continue to be patient if I haven't gotten back to you yet. Thank you!

Woohoo! My briefcase unit and tons of extra goodies are on their way. I know it took a lot of time & effort to buy and test everything. So Samurai Ghost, I just wanted to thank you for offering this awesome service to the forum and the excellent communication we've had over the past few months. These next few weeks are going to be torture.

BTW, I'm leaning towards painting the PCE and CD unit now instead of using the Retr0Bright process. I've gotten pretty good at painting consoles and I found some excellent hi-res logos to replace the originals.

Thanks for the feedback, you were great to work with! So I'd like to confirm that Deletion is a great buyer if anyone else deals with him.

As for painting the consoles, it's something I've been interested in myself. I have a few cruddy looking consoles that I think would look awesome painted a crazy color. A Shuttle for instance. I mean, it's such a weird looking system anyway, I think it would be awesome painted some insane color. My friend painted his SNES2 to nice effect as well. What kind of paint do you usually use?

I use Duplicolor Adhesion Promoter (helps paint stick to plastic), then Krylon Fusion (available in a wide range of colors), and finish with Krylon Fusion Clear (for the clearcoat). So far I've painted two of the original gray PlayStations; one is bright white, the other is blue to resemble a Net Yaroze system. One of my Indigo GameCubes is also now bright white with black accents. I'll take some pics and post them in the Mod section some time.

Yeah post some pics when you can! I think painted systems can look really cool if they are done right.
Personally I think the PCE Engine IFU painted with some custom logos on the top cover would look awesome, especially if you did a matching/contrasting color scheme for the PCE/CDROM inside. It would definitely be a unique system!
