I devised a video game based card game a few years back but never completely finished it or did anything with it. I'm revisiting it now and have a couple of choices - either tweak it to be exclusively PCE related and give it away as downloads that people can print and play, or rework it to avoid copyright issues and try and sell it on a site like The Game Crafter. This could make some cash, but will require a lot more effort on my part.
As we're a small community I'm not sure if there is sufficient interest in a PCE related CCG-style game, so I want to gauge how many people would actually download, get printed and play a PCE card game that mostly requires 2 players.
-
I'd definitely download it, and may get it printed, but all of my friends live inside my head, so play may be challenging... :D
-
i'm interested to. would like to see some pics, maybe a few details.
-
id play it. im into stupid shit like CCGs. I have enough L5R cards to build a house! :)

Here's an example of the cards I made back in 2002

I think I have a decent set of rules for it and I should really do something original, it's just so much work.

Id be all over this dude.
My friend and I go to the gaming cons around here (origins and gen con, and more!) and he has worked with Fantasy Flight and some other companies before.
We could playtest this stuff. Spread teh word at conventions, etc.

The hardest bit is coming up with a theme for it - one that doesn't breach copyright but is still interesting.
I'm not that good at drawing stuff any more - game graphics are very different and a lot easier. My only idea so far has been to theme it as 8-bit graphics or something and come up with some original/spoof type pixel artwork. It would be less pretty but more likely to happen.

I already have 2 sets of alternate 2-player rules, and a simple solo game worked out so playing alone is always possible :)

having a bunch of knock offs of the best retro games would be pretty fun. As long as its not the real stuff, it should be ok.

I think Paul should create the cards and someone else should put them into a game like card angels. Not that you have lives or anything. :P
-
I'm into the card games and would give it a shot, if i can find someone to play with. I remember when Magic used to be fun before they destroyed the game.

Didn't know anyone else played this, haven't myself for about 15 years... the table is yours!
-
This actually looks pretty interesting.
-
Paul if you need any help with contributions ($$) or ideas for game 'ccg engine' to use, let me know. I really love this idea!!
-
I could probably finish this up pretty quick if I left it as a general retro-game theme and download-and-print-yourself. But if only 3 or 4 people will actually play it, it's not really worth taking the extra time for it. PCE only would also be great, but that would reduce the audience to about 1 or 2 people at most.
I'm still undecided what to do with it, but I think I have a decent, fun ruleset already done.
-
too bad we can't all play together.

Someone want to make an online version? :D

I was thinking about doing this a long time ago.
Remember War of the Gems (back when Marvel was cool), Magic the Gathern, and along with card games?
Why don't we do that with this card game. We combine
all the card games, including poker, bullshite, FFVII and dad into one big card.
Lets all just agree not to includ Stu-pedo.............
...oky oky we can have that along with bog as well.
We make rules that people can use cards that are made
from certain material, and that people can create their own characters as well.
Too bad I will never get a chance to play it.

I thinks it's a great idea and those cards you made look amazing!
-
OK, I'm going to finish this as a download-and-print-yourself. It will be PCE themed, but contain enough multi-format characters that other retro-gamers will be able to enjoy it. If it is well received then other things may come of it...

I've finished setting up the deck, here are some more samples:

I'm hoping to print off the complete thing tomorrow.
-
f*ck yeah
-
Really nice work. are you printing this on cardstock or is there a better more permanent method?
-
I'm gonna do it on some 250-350gsm gloss, which is more than suitable. That's what I'd recommend anyway.
All I need is someone to playtest with another person to make sure the rules make sense (after I rewrite them).
-
ill playtest it.
me and my friends play games and shit all the time. we're OCD about rules.

OK. I'll let you know when I have the rules all neatly written up and send you the files.
-
Printed them all off now, they look pretty nice.
