Title: Memory for Saves
Post by: DrGamer on October 18, 2005, 04:48:50 PM
Is there any way besides clearing off room on the internal memory to save games..mine is full  :(
I need a "mini" harddrive for my PC Engine :D
I don't want to delete stuff off there but I think that is my only choice...

That's what the Ten No Koe bank is for.

Too bad there's no way to get the saves on your PC (or is there?)

Ten No Koe???? What is that???? :?:
Is it something I can purchase to add more room for save games?
And on a similar note..how much room is there on the internal memory of the PC Engine for save games???

Yeah I've never actually used one--but I might have to buy one now that I'm using my PCE more.

I'm not sure how much extra RAM it has, but I think it has the ability to save several times the save RAM in your PCE.  It's been awhile since I've seen one, but as I recall it's a HUCARD with some save memory in it or something.  And you put it in your PCE and it will let you copy the contents of your save RAM to the hucard.  You can then later copy the file back over your PCE save RAM.

There's some other more heavy-duty solution called the Memory 128 or something? I've seen it discussed here, but never seen one in person.

Here's some info on the Tennokoe Bank.  They're fairly common--might set you back $30-40 max on ebay.

My friend, here's a description of it (w/ screenshots of user interface, but not of the card itself... it looks like a HuCard):

Ten No Koe Bank, January 1992 (http://home.comcast.net/~archive-two/TP-10-25.jpg) from TurboPlay Magazine #10 (http://home.comcast.net/~turboplay-magazine-archives-tg16/TurboPlay_Collection_10.html). Enjoy!

Here's another neat link; Darkman translated the comic that came with the Ten No Koe Bank:

My one question about the ten no koe is the battery.  Do these things still work?  Supposedly it's battery backed RAM--and it's been like 10 years.  Can you hack a new battery in somehow?

it could be a while before we find out.  I have NES games i purchased back in 1988 and the batteries still work.

i don't know anything about modifying systems, but do you guys think there would be anyway to get a bigger chip and expand the memory in a Duo?
I'd rather not use my Tennokoe bank at all.  it's hard to keep track or what files are saved on it and which of the 4 banks a certain game is saved in.
Maybe it would be possible to pull the memory out of a broken Duo or a turbo booster plus and have twice the memory in one system?

Ask D-Lite about that...I bet he would know if you could put 2 into 1...or if there is a better way to manage save games :D

I'd rather just like if someone could mod a ten no koe bank so it saves to a SD card or something.

Or--if someone hacked a cable from the Turbo Pad port to a PC via RS232 or something.  And then wrote PC software which emulated the Memory Base 128--that would be awesome.  All you'd need is the software, a cable, and a game that supports the Memory Base 128 (like Vasteel 2).
