Title: whats a fair price for cotton?
Post by: munchiaz on January 27, 2012, 07:53:27 PM
I really want to pick this one up. I see it going for stupid prices on Ebay. I know someone who is selling it for $125. Is that to much? Should i just try and find a Japanese copy instead?

Yeah, what he said.  Though 125.00 is not a bad price for this game, seeing as it has been going for crazy amounts lately.  But seriously, the only difference in the two versions is the US version leaves out the narration.  You can select your language for the text.

It used to fetch $75 until late last year.

If you want the us version and it includes case and manual, I'd jump all over that.

You can try making an offer, but I doubt he'll go under $200 for it.

Over 400.00??  Lol!!!

I know I balk at a lot of the "holy grail" collector prices that show up on ebay, but I just don't think these old games are worth what some of these sellers think they are worth.  I refuse to make someone's mortgage or car payment over a 15 year old video game.  To each his own though....

I think I paid like 30 for mine, and I just got it a couple months ago.

I paid $75 for my U.S. copy and felt it was a pretty fair price.  The PCE suggestion is a good one, but in all honesty, $125 doesn't sound like too much of a gouge at the moment.

Game of Japan (http://www.gameofjapan.com/product_info.php?products_id=5013) has them, $34. Whoops, think they're sold out.

How retarded am I? Isn't hitjapan and GOJ the same thing? Sorry, disregard what I've said. :(

$75 is a fair price but $125? jesus no!!
got mine in a trade a few years back and $50 to $70 was my price range if i had to buy.

I wonder if i got into the turbo scene later if i would consider prices that i find high today on the fair side?... When you see the other side of prices which was not so long ago i get right bitter on the so called fair prices of today.<<shrugs>>

I picked up the pce version awhile back and it's pretty cool.  I certainly don't think it's a $125 game, though.  It has lots of big sprites and cool graphical effects, and is challenging. And the end stage screens show a bikini-clad fairy.

I don't like that you can hold a button for a charged shot.  That takes away the keeping the turbo on, which makes playing games like this a lot more enjoyable.  Personal preference, but I am not a big fan of Cotton.

So...is there any US game that isn't stupidly overpriced now, or have you people completely ruined that scene?

It's f*cked up that most of my MVS games are cheaper than Cotton for Turbografx. That's just...wrong.

Not really. Its getting harder and harder to find decent priced turbo games these days. Hell, if even half the games that people wanted were priced like Populous:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/300571417853?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 I would be a very happy camper.

Good luck trust me you saved some money getting the pce version instead of the over priced u.s one.

For every pricey Cotton, there are five cheap games like Dungeon Explorer, Bonk's Adventure, Klax, Blazing Lasers, and Tiger Road.

There are US Titles that are cheaper than the pce counterpart too.  Bloody Wolf, Parasol Stars, and Ninja Spirit come to mind.  All superb games.

Yeah, that's exactly why I don't have Ninja Spirit. I only buy JP releases and the JP is twice as expensive in this case. I'll have it eventually. I do have it on VC.

The (J) version is more expensive for Ninja Spirit?  I wonder why that is?

Surprisingly, I got mine for $40 through amazon (it was the same guy who sold me U.S Cadash for $20), mind you it was the Japanese version but still a good deal. So don't count out amazon when you are searching!

I guess I was lucky to get my sealed Cotton for like $60 or so from some place in France a couple years back.

Keith Courage; will never be worth more then $0.25

I've found surprising things on Amazon as well. It's not a bad place to look.

A little off topic, but I got Sonic 2 there for .01, paid more for the shipping which was 3.00 lol. Keith Courage is still running about $6.00 though.

I paid $100 for a sealed Cotton a couple years ago (second most expensive game I have), I opened it to play it and I'll say it was well worth it. The game is one of my favorite shooters and my favorite "cute um up". I would say that if you just want to play it you should get the JPN version, kinda wish I would have because the are identical but the US version is cool to have and you can get your money back if you want to sell it if you don't like it, I'll never sell mind though cause I think it's that good.

Berns - the jp ninja spirit didn't seem to have the huge print rum its us counterpart did..  And it is tough to find minty copies these days even in Japan.  I've never seen a complete one in the super potatos or the mandarakes, for example..  And even on yahoo jp it always gets lots of bids so this confirms it.  It goes for about 3000 yen for a sxy minty copy or about 40 bucks.  Given the game is so awesome to play people once have it they rarely resell it.  (a la in my case :-). ). Slow downs and all its the best ninja game imo better than kaze kiri by miles (ninja gaiden is another genre)
