Title: y's 4 oddity
Post by: HercTNT on February 10, 2012, 06:33:51 PM
When adol aquires an item from a chest the game plays a neat little jingle. I'm also a huge fan of Super metroid, and i

noticed something odd. The music thats played when both adol and samus aran aquire an item is almost identical.

Someone do some research on this to make sure a: i'm not crazy and b: when did both games come out respectively?

Hahaha! I never even noticed the similarity before, good catch! Wouldn't say identical, but comparable!

The treasure chest jingle in Ys has been around since the original 1987 release. The original Metroid by comparison came out a year earlier in '86. Maybe Falcom was influenced?

I have no idea, but the two sound alot closer to each other when you compare y's to super metroid.  Its not here nor there really, i just thought it was odd.

Yeah, I've noticed it before. It was probably a subconscious thing and they didn't realise they were doing it.

And for the record, the audio in ys 4 is outstanding!!! Not to mention the cut scenes are some of the best i have ever seen.

Who really cares, maybe it was from a commercial, or film of some sort. Back then most ficitonal works during the 1980's was based off films that was released recently or some previous time. The same rule for music as well.

If I was still into top down games I bet we would see all kinds of sounds. The ones from Zelda:OOT was probably the most biblical. Especially for young link leaning over just to get the item, and almost fall into the chest.

Two of my favorite games, has a simular sound let me go check, since I have all three games at my disposal.

the OP was saying that when both of those characters acquire an item, the sound is the same or almost the same.

I just found out what you were talking about.

Like in the original Ys when get a book, you will hear that sound. I think in Ys4 when you get a special item you will also hear that sound. That sound is heard later in Ys2 as well. It has to be a special item like a wand in Ys4, I am guessing.

In another game when you go to sleep in an IN you will hear something like that. Some other games you also hear that same tune play.

They are basically the same sound but the Ys one has a sorta reverb, or extended. It does not really matter, at least it has a melody of some sort. Who really cares.

I'd like to see you keep trying to have a logical conversation with him.

Let them alone. If grammar policing keeps the guy from hanging himself or taking a machine gun to work, its worth it.

It has to do with my daughters school work actually. She's learning grammar (something i suck at) and i have been trying to improve to set an example. And it has backfired. It's so stuck in my head i keep adding an 's to everything :)
