So, yesterday I was looking at Zeta's want list he posted recently, and seen where someone posted they had a Dagon Ball Z up for trade. I didnt even realize that the PC Engine had that game, so I was curious. Went to the PC Engine Bible and was checking it out http://www.pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Dragon_Ball_Z.htm
Meanwhile, my stepson, who is only 9 by the way, come running across the room yelling " OOHHHH, Dragon Ball Z!!!!" He watched the video on the page, was naming all the guys and all. Then he tell me he wants the game too... He seemed to really like the gameplay video, and was too excited for me to say no. So I looked it up on Ebay and got it for a pretty good price from hitjapan. I just thought it was cool that this old system can STILL satisfy the kids today. He enjoys other games on the Turbo as well, such as Bonk, Bomberman, ect. I just found it neat that he got excited like we do about these games. I mean, the kid has a Wii, plays Xbox 360, and other new generation shit. And he still loves some old skool shit. Stuff he would have never been exposed to if i hadnt come along.
How many of you have kids that enjoy the Turbo? I bet there are more than I would imagine. Lilgrafx is a prime example here in the forums.
Anyway, just wanted to share that. I will post pics of him and the game once it arrives. He was thinking it would be here tomorrow.. lmao.. Im like no man, it is gonna take a couple weeks.. lol :P

When you get the game and can't figure out how the f*ck to play it, start a thread and we'll help you through it. I beat his game back when it was new but sold it off some time in the 90s. Most people don't "get it" but IMO it was really cool and 1000x better than the SFC DBZ games. It made me want more PCE stuff from Bandai.
Btw, DBZ in generally is a pretty great example of something that entertains kids beyond its original run. The show was kind of old already when it first showed up on US TV.

That is so inspirationally awesome!!!

I just ordered from hit and it got here in less than a week!

I have two daughters 9 and 6 and they are in love with bonk. My youngest laughs hysterically when he lands on his head. My oldest has stolen my gt right outta my hands several times just to play bonk 2. Their favorite though is bonk 3. Savanna, My youngest, loves little bonk. both of them have played before together.

For sure. Cuz I know he is gonna want me to play with him. We run into issues I will create a thread for it. Most likely he is gonna whip my ass regardless tho....

I guess this website doesnt list every PCE game ever made? http://www.thebrothersduomazov.com/
I can't find Dragon Ball Z there.
-
My girlfriend has two adopted brothers, one 7 and one 9. The only system they had is the Wii. When I try to get them to play games with a controller, and not the waggle, they A.) can't figure it out and B.) have no interest in them. I hope this is just a small sample size.

I still have one up for trade.. ^^ Its not a bad game by all means, but I have had it for like 15 years now and haven't fired it up in ages. I will say this though, the gameplay is very unique, not like your typical fighting game at all and you really don't need to know Japanese to pull off some pretty cool moves and such. Think of tug of war and you get the idea.
-
DBZ is a nice game on the PCE, but I think your stepson ain't gonna like it much, since it has a hell of a strange gameplay and requires some Japanese to be played. But who knows, many guys may have cleared it by try'n erroroing out the fight patterns.
Positive, it is very close to the TV serie and tells the whole story up to cel saga.

It only lists the games reviewed. Thus, it grows every month, but it is not an exhaustive list.
Personally, the best resource for looking stuff up is:
http://www.pcecp.com (http://www.pcecp.com/) (STRENGTHS: (1) "COMPLETE" LIST OF TITLES, and (2) search with filters! I love it! I don't think it has been touched in years, but it is still great. Did I mention how powerful the Advanced Search is? It rules!)
http://www.pcengine.co.uk (http://www.pcengine.co.uk/) (STRENGTHS: tons of wonderful stuff, like videos, music, recommended games, Bucci's reviews.
Back on topic: Of course my daughter plays all the old-skool games. Yes, she plays Wii and iOS and PC games, too. But she totally appreciates old-skool arcade and console games.
However, I try to introduce games that I know will appeal to her (I don't want to poison her with clunkers, even though I love a lot of clunkers). Puyo Puyo and Buster Bros. on the TG-CD? Hell yes we play them all the time! She's 8 years old. Aero Blasters or Monster Lair 2-player co-op? Way too difficult for her, and she quickly loses interest.
And, sadly, I am corrupting my daughter by listening to a lot of video game music.
Hopefully, she won't hate me. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

Because these games were the easiest and simplest but yet rich in quailty fun ever. Especially for kids, those games have a special appeal (as they had on me when I was a kid (and look, I'm still one..lol)).
retro gaming keeps you young.

Absolutely correct! (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)
Do you know how much fun we had when we found Zookeeper at some decrepit diner on a road trip?
AWESOME.

Damn I loved some cabs in an old restaurants/bar etc. placed in a dark corner, when you were on family trips/holidays.
It was all magic.
Remember games like xevious, ghosts'n'goblins, tutankhamun, 1942, gunsmoke, pacman, starwars etc. in that big black box.
You didn't know what was exactly inside there, but the games it brought on the screen were beyond of any godness.

Indubitably! Even Centipede was good for a few plays (ha! I like the game, but it had stiff competition).
Spy Hunter! (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png) Buck Rogers!
I miss seeing cabs in the nooks and crannies of random businesses.

Why am I all of a sudden having flashbacks to Back to the Future 2? "You gotta use your hands?!? It's like a baby's toy!"

How many of you have kids that enjoy the Turbo?
My nephews love playing my multiplayer Turbobs, especially Bomberman '94, Bonk 3, and Parasol Stars. Due to their difficulty level, they're not so keen on the shooties; damn kids these days can't handle a challenge.

My 12 year old daughter loves Monster Lair.. lol. Its crazy watching her play it. She gets all mad and frustrated when she dies. My 16 year old tho, well she dont care too much for the Turbo. I mean, she will watch me play it and all, and she likes some of the RPG games, but she prefers the newer stuff. Her exact statement to me when I showed her the Turbo Grafx, was.. "There's nothing turbo about them graphics." :P Silly kid.

...even though I love a lot of clunkers)...
Im gonna have to call balogna on this remark!!

Well...............Step_son :-k
Who I am to talk about implusive behaviour, power of purchase, and
being mobile. If I had a kid, and they would go insane over 2d videogames, it would make my life a lot easier. Anyways that is another day.
I get sick of Dragon Ball: Kai intro song. I can't believe kids are watching that. I am assuming that is what he is watching. Has he ever seen the orginal Dragon Ball, or DBZ opening for the US?
"There's nothing turbo about them graphics."
You should see the look on my family member face, when I had an
early generation portable computer on my desk. "What is that, where you get that from, oh my gosh".
Then when I had a Apple labtop they were like "Did you stole that".
Then I show off the PCE and they were like "your PC what" "I only know Wii, and 360 is" " I thought I talked to you about this, you need to move foward, not backwards"
Then a family who actually owned a NES, and played it one time walked in and said "is that a PS3?"

Are you translating your own posts through babelfish?
If I had two cups of coffee for every squirrel I threw in the glove compartment................

At least the 12 year old respects the Turbo.

Well If I had a kid I'd be on one of those MTV shows, but a lot of my friends get a kick out of the turbo, Splatter house, Bonk, Blazing Lazers,me and my friend Eddie actually got pretty far in dungeon explorer. I even convinced some friends to play Bomberman, they were skeptical at first when I pull a 20 year old console out, but after we started they couldn't get enough of it. We had like 6 guys and we played for hours on end.

This restores my faith in humanity. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)
If only I weren't being absolutely serious.
-
Bomberman does restore some faith, haha. The moment for me was having people try out the Saturn version in college with 8 players (10 max but I didn't have that many controllers!)
I had more requests for parties with that game...even the 'what the f*ck Sega Saturn??' naysayers.
Good fun outweighs any technological limitation.

10 player is kind of lame in Bomberman SS since you can't actually see the players very well and there is only one "wide" screen. 8 is best.
BTW, if you are that well equipped and can get people to play Saturn with you then you absolutely should get Death Tank Zwei, or at least the original Death Tank. Those games are...I hate to say it...even more fun than Bomberman SS. Seriously. Also, Guardian Heroes, of course.

I kind of like the 10 player screen in SS Bomberman. Even though there's only one screen, it's still cool.

Oh yeah, Sega Saturn. When the buildings inspector people of the building came in to seal holes. This one guy was like "what is that" and I say "It's a Sega Saturn" and they are like "I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid, oh wow". The guy was kinda amazed to see a Saturn.
