Title: Legend Of Xanadu Pt.1 (Kaze No Densetsu) Walkthrough
Post by: blueraven on February 17, 2012, 07:46:09 AM
In light of everyone deciding to play through Xanadu Pt. 1, I have started the game again, and will post this Level by Level so we can actually get through this one. Done with help from BT Garner, and marcoux[at]star.enet.dec.com who contributed much to the original walkthrough. Thanks for being patient guys; This won't turn into a vaporthread.
---

Title Screen:
1. Start the game with Cinema
2. Start the game without the Cinema
3. Resume Saved Game

Make sure you have your memory formatted, and that there is enough to support Xanadu which will not save if there is insufficient RAM.

AREA 1:

Tips: Area 1 is included in the map that comes with the game, so get familiar with it very early on. Lots of interaction is required here between yourself and the townsfolk. Talk to everybody TWICE to make sure that there is no dialogue change, because sometimes the townsfolk are stubborn, and forgetting to talk to someone can make you LOLRAGE at your Turbob. Be sure to enable SPD and MSG in the menu which will double your speed, and double the message speed and eliminate the beeps.

- MAKE SURE YOU GET A SWORD. You come completely unequipped, so buy the big $150 sword from the guy in the first town (Ikteia).

- When you first talk to the Nun at the Wing-Altar-Chruch-Temple place she gives you the low down that this is where you will end up when you begin each area. You also get 2 pills (vicodin?) which restore some of your life. Use them sparingly in the beginning. You can sleep in the beds here for free to re-up your life. Do this as often as possible.

- Level Arios all the way up, then head to the northernwestern area of the map. Go past the mountains until you see a single yellow slime, and you will know you're in the right area. Keep heading north until it finally curves east, and you will run into the mini-slime. He's the little off-color and smaller blob-dude who is scared of you. He doesn't fit in with the other blobs. Completely disarm yourself, and talk to him, you will have to answer yes to the questions twice (hai), and he will join you! You now have your first NPC character.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-l1-slime.jpg)

- After you get the blob, people will start closing their doors, you have to go back and talk to everyone. Head to the cave in the northwest, making sure to head north from the Lumberjacks house, and then slightly to the right as you're going north, so you don't exit the mountain range. Enter the Cave. Run through it and grab all of the treasure chests. When you get to the southeastern portion of the area, you will see 8 barrels sticking out of the ground. Try to open one, then head back to town.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-l1-cave.jpg)

- At this point you need to talk to everyone, then head to the western town, and find the man in the red hat who is in bed with illness. Talk to him twice, and he will tell you about his ailment. Then head to the most northeastern town (Bolder), and talk to the old man (Toma) at the top of the village. Then get your ass back to the cave and go to the room with the barrels, which will trigger an event. Leave the cave, and you will run into a green-haired kid that takes off running. Head back to the western town, and talk to the man in the red hat, who is feeling better.

- Then run back to Bolder where 5 people are waiting to talk to the green-haired kid (Nicola) who bumped into you. There seems to be some interest in your slime. Go north to the Northern town (Kasta) to knock on Melina's door. She still wont let you in. In the same town, go and talk to the village Elder, which is the next house over. Then, go one house south and knock, and the girl will have a dialogue with Arios. NOW you can go and talk to the violet-haired Melina, who will give you the carte blanche pass to to and talk to the Luberjack/Woodsmith Theo.  Go to Theo's house in the mountains, where he is now willing to meet with you, and has a long dialogue with Arios. Theo invites him inside, and gets pretty dramatic after hearing about the quest. He goes to the bookshelf and gets you a book from it.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-l1-theohouse.jpg)

- Now you need to head to Bolder again and talk to the Elder. This causes another event, where he rings the bell for the town to call a meeting. The townspeople come running. They bring Nicola back, and then disperse. Head to Kasta, and go to Nicola's house and talk to him after his parents let you in. Head to the house directly to the west, and talk to the blonde haired man. The neighbor's house to the north is now empty. The people in the West village are now missing too. Head back to Theo's house, and give him back the book. Head back to the cave, and the people from the West Village will meet you at the entrance.  Head inside, back to the room with the barrels. This triggers another event. Theo runs into the room with his shovel. Exit the cave, and the people from the Western town meet you at the entrance. Then go the the innkeeper at Ikteia, right next to the weapon shop and talk to her. Then go talk to the elder in Bolder and talk to him. Then go talk to the elder in Kasta due North. I then talked to people until the guards to the ship in Ikteia showed up. The event, happens, the music changes, and the difficulty goes up.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-l1-halfway.jpg)

- Go to Bolder, and talk to the blue haired dwarf looking dude in the center house. He's stoked to see you. Run all the way back to the western town to talk to the man with the red hat. also totally freaking happy to see you. Go back into the cave to look for Theo. This will trigger an event. Now you have to escort the 4 lost West village people who are standing next to treasure chests in the first part of the cave. Then talk to Theo and they will all dip out. Head back to the western town, and one of the ladies will give you 100 gems. Go back to Toma's house in the town of Bolder and Theo will be waiting there with him. Talk to Theo. Go find Azzak, the village elder, and talk to him. The whole town is at his house. This is where you get the boulder key. Head to Kasta, get the staff, and head back to the cave to the metal doorway at the top of the dungeon.

- Get ready for the cake and martini reward that you have just have earned.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-l1-action1.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-l1-boss.jpg)
(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-l1-arios.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-l1-melia.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-l1-Theo.jpg)

AREA 2:

Tips: Area 2 is also included in the map that comes with your CD. Get to know it. You've beaten the first level, but you still have a very long way to go (...tower? ...whu?). This is the level where you get Daimos and Lykos, the fighter and thief (wait... my Avatar is... some other guy  :-") who help you on your Journey. The game opens up a whole new level of kickass with the NPC aspect, so get ready for some action. Level up your weapons as soon as possible and blow the rest of your money on health pills. You will be looting hand over fist soon enough, so don't worry about spending Gems. The Only way to travel between the two towns is by boat.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-bar.jpg)

- You are in the town DokuSano (Sunny Dock). Go to the bar directly south of the chapel and have a dialogue with the bartender. Then go and talk to the blue-haired man sitting at teh table to the right. they will tell you where you are. Next, head north to the Jail, where you will trigger an event with the guards. If you try and enter too late, the night watchman will inform you that the jail is closed. The men outside are talking about a bounty. Talk to the orange-haired kid (Patrick) who will then start talking to a man in a yellow hat, (Paul, ahem.... Guess Who?). Paul runs off. Follow him back to the bar and talk to him. Now, speak with the eye-patched head of the Guards, Hikara.

- Go to the village next door (Miserable), keeping in mind that the dead will rise from their graves at night and attack you. Talk to the man in the lower right house, who will extort 50 gems from you for his info. Head to the elder's house north, and you tell him that "Paul" sent you over on a mission. In the meantime, go kick some Zombie ass!! Leave the village and go spend a night in the Chapel at Sunny Dock.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-graveyard.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-zombies.jpg)

- Head back to the Elders house and Paul will be waiting for you there. He falls asleep after talking about the Kuroroso (Cursed Town) folks. Wait until nightfall, then head north in Sunny Dock to the right of the chapel and you will find Paul hanging out in the alley. After a heated exchange with Arios, and explaining the situation in Miserable, (presumably why the people are cursed and the bounty on Lykos' head) he takes off running, scared. Go to sleep at the chapel, and then head north in the morning to the jail. Paul will meet you and another event will take place. He will take you away from the guards and impart important information to you. Paul will then remove his disguise, and reveal himself as Lykos!! The guards immediately arrest him and take him to jail.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-lykosarrested.jpg)

- Go and talk to Hikara about Lykos. He informs you of the thief's crimes and misdemeanors. You now can take the boat across the ocean to the other town of Kurorosu (Cursed Town). The broken Chapel here has a bed you can sleep in if you like. Head to the cave, and remember to pay attention to the grey squares on the ground. They have arrows which point to subsequent areas, but this isn't really in your face. Trigger the two touch-plates on the left in the first area, enabling a glass barrier up top that will allow you to cross into the next room. On the far east area in the north of the cave, follow the fake wall into a room that will give you a free set of armor. Head back south, to the area where there are 2 blue orbs are firing at you. Run up to the top left area (*Next Photo), and hit the action button; Arios will activate the hidden switch which will activate the next platform.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-trickswitch.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-daimoswater.jpg)

- Head to the next floor, and after picking up the treasure chests, you will find Daimos in the northeastern area of the cave, surrounded on all four sides by water, held up by a force-field. Grind your way back out of the cave, and head back to the Inn at Kurorosu. Take the boat back to Sunny Dock, and go speak with Lykos at the jail cell he is in. Go to Miserable, and talk to the old man in the bottom right house. Arios will mention the key to the dungeon, and the water trap Daimos is stuck in. He asks you for 200 gems. Go to the village elders house, and... Paul will be waiting there for you. He has the longest dialogue thus far in the game, and and tells you how to get around the water. SURPRISE! It's actually Lykos, and he joins your party! When you leave the town, he appears in disguise as "Paul". Head back to sunny dock, where you need to talk to the thief who is posing as Lykos. Go to the guards house and speak with all of them, telling them about Daimos. Head to the bar, and speak with the Kurorosu people, and then finally the bum who comes in at closing who tells you about the secret passage in a drunken stupor.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-lykos.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-fakelykos.jpg)

Go to Miserable. Try to talk to the Kurorosu people who have moved into Miserable. They are incredibly rude. Head back to Kurorosu. Go to the Inn, where an event will happen. Lykos finds the hidden passage next to the bed in the back room! There is a nun underneath the room, hiding out from the undead. Sister Anita tells you about how to unlock the force-field, and that it will require 2 people to do the job. Head back to the area where Daimos is trapped. Keep running around to the southwest of the dungeon, and Lykos will notice something about the monsters. Head north to the great oak tree above Kurorosu. Sister Anita is waiting for you. Wait until 9PM, kill the 2 zombies, then talk to Sister Anita. She will summorn a Water mage, who has a dialogue with Arios, and Lykos demands a payment. Ariso, pissed off, pushes Lykos and then FELL IN A HOLE. Lykos and the water mage follow suit, and he cuts a path for you to get to Daimos, and then peaces out. Daimos then Joins the party.

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-oakree.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-moseswater.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-secret.jpg)

So then, you run into a CLUSTERf*ck of skeletons, and if your armor isnt completely maxxed out, it probably will be after this encounter. You get mobbed, and then curiously the tiles hammer a downward angle at you (See 3rd photo above). Follow them and walk into the wall, and follow the secret path. The next arrow in the tiny room will lie to you telling you to head down. If you do, you will be led into a secret area that spirals to nowhere. Head up and follow the path around to the room with the 3 switches. Enter them 1, 3, 2 = and they will activate a switch. Head back, and if you go to the left again Arios will say that it is too far to reach. Run around directly under the right orb while hitting the action button, and the hidden foot-switch will trigger the bridge. open up the next glass bridge where you got mobbed by the skeletons. Head north...

- Another totally killer castlevania-style side-scrolling stage!! The reward for beating Level 2! YOU DID IT!! :D

(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-action2.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-boss1.jpg)(http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq21/Rookstower/Video Games/highscores/legendofxanadu1/xanadu-lvl2-boss2.jpg)

But its not over yet! You can't put the controller down. You still have 10 levels and TEH TOWER ...Have you given up yet?

Now... Your moment of Zen.

Very nice! I'm almost done with the editing video of the first part of the game (been hectic at work, filling in shifts so haven't been able to play/work on it) hopefully with that and your walkthrough we'll all be able to finish the game. :D

Area 1 of the walk-through is now finished. I've tried to take out as much of the unnecessary parts which to me was much of the challenge (and the sheer f*cking awesomeness of it's Leviathan-like nature) of the game. Photos will begin to appear sooner than later.

Thank you Ope!!

Level 2 is updated... I was able to get a few hours off between the grind and got halfway through the second area. The dungeon is all based off of these pressure plates, and I seem to remember a hidden stairway behind a bookcase in the cursed town.

Been playing this game for the last few weeks. Figured I'd post some advice incase anyone gets stumped by the same part I was stuck at for a few days.

I believe it's in Area 6, it's the level where you used dynamite to blow up the tree stumps blocking the paths in one of the caves. The part I was stuck on was later on in the level after you've brought some town leader back to life and recovered all the townsfolks that were hiding after their town had been invaded by monsters.

After talking to everyone many, many times with no new events triggering, I could not figure out what to do. The trick is to go to the underground cave enclosed by a circular range of mountains and enter the rectangular room on the south-eastern part of the map with the closed door. Wait in here until the clock reaches 17:00 and three pillars will suddenly appear and one of the elders from the town will show up and the locked door on the north-eastern part of the map will open, leading to the rest of the dungeon.

Currently stuck on level 7, but still going to play around to see if I can figure it out.

Thanks! Currently on level 8!

Couple tips for level 7:

- There's an unconscious female that's been taking care of by a few people in a cave up north. Go back to the rocky maze area and there should be a nun/clergy woman standing somewhere reading one of the stone tablets. After talking to her she will walk back to her home that's located one screen north. Presumably, she says she needs an ingredient to make the medicine to bring the unconscious lady back to life.

To find this ingredient, go back to the screen that's located directly north from the town you start off in. Around the northwestern corner of this screen will be a lone tree that's distinct from all the dried up bushes in the area. Stand in front of the tree and press the talk/confirm button and you will receive a leaf. Bring this leaf back to the clergy woman and she will make the medicine that you'll bring back to the cave.

- After reviving the unconscious lady she will join your party. Go back to the dungeon shrine place and take the staircase the leads to the basement. The new girl in your party will open the door that was previously locked shut. Continue down this path until you reach a room full of six statues. Talk to the middle one on the right (statue 5) and it will light up and say some stuff. Now here's the trick: before you can illuminate the rest of the statues, you must first unequip your sword and armor and then talk to each of them! Afterwards a teleport panel will appear on the floor and will transport you to a room where you find this red head babe Aerios has the hots for. Once the dialogue is over, you'll now be able to utilize the teleport panels on the second floor and move onto the side scrolling section.

Wow level 8 was a long, dragged out pain the ass! I had to get a friend to translate one of the dialogues for me so I could get a better idea of what was going on.

The part I was stuck on was after receiving this pot/container from the old guy in the house on the most eastern part of the map. Thanks to the help of my translator buddy, turns out this was actually a jug of sake (or any alcohol, same meaning).

So what you have to do is go back to the house with three officials/generals/slave owners/whatever you want to call them that are located around the center of the map and get them drunk to the point of falling asleep. This only works for the men in the black uniforms, so talk to each of them around three times and they'll pass out.

The man in the blue uniform won't drink (presumably, or has a super alcohol tolerance). Instead he requires a certain item. To find this item, climb up the mountain wall north from here (the one that has the annoying birds dropping stones!). Go inside the house and click on the brown drawer and you'll receive an item that looks like berries. Bring this back to the official and he'll do something with it outside. As he's fiddling around, sneak inside his bed and press the action button to receive a new item (I forget what it was).

The rest of the level should be straight forward fetch quests.

I'm currently on floor 19-ish in the big tower. Leave it to Falcom to go all out on the last dungeon!

More tips:

Level 9 is a breeze, basic fetch quests. It's a short level too, nice break from the dragged out previous levels.

Level 10 is pretty easy too, but there was a puzzle that took me awhile to figure out. Outside of the town, there are four pyramids in the desert scattered in a north, east, south, west fashion (the northern pyramid is one screen north and one screen east from the town, the other pyramids are four screens apart from each other). Each pyramid has two goddesses statues in front that can be rotated by pressing the action button.

The entrance for each pyramid is blocked by some sort of force. When you're ready to enter the pyramids (I believe you need to have the green haired character wearing a hat in your party for this), you'll need to change the direction of all the goddess statues to correspond in the direction of the pyramid you want to enter. For example, if you want to enter the western pyramid, change the direction of all the statues to face west. There will be a boss fight in each pyramid you enter, and beating them will give you four wind items.

After defeating each boss, change the direction of all the statues to face east (I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the direction). Go to the screen that's located in the center between all the pyramids and talk to your friends standing around the middle of the screen. There will be a cinema and you'll be transported to the next dungeon. WARNING: After you're transported, you can't go back, so make sure you're stocked up on vitamins!

Finished this one last night! What a kick ass last boss and ending! The tower isn't that hard actually, it just requires a lot of time and a hefty dash of patience.

The last action level is simply the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on a PCE.
Yeah, the cool thing about the Xanadu games is that they already look gorgeous enough as is, but the last levels go balls out on the graphics! They look 32-bit good.

Thanks! This game requires a lot of dedication to make it through the language barrier, there are some really cryptic puzzles and triggers to figure out. That's why I started posting in this thread to help out blueraven if he ever gets stuck while making the walkthrough. I actually wasn't aware there was a play together thread for this game when I decided to start playing it.

started the game today and i finished the first chapter within 2 hours. really awesome game but i think LoX II is better. part 1 has too much fetch questing and without blueravens guide, i think i wont have made it through chapter 1.

@blueraven: and after chapter 3 please finish those other chapters also as soon as possible. ;)

i need a good walkthrough now for the next chapters. does anyone know other pages for xanadu guides?

@blueraven: when are you going to post walkthroughs for chapter 3 and beyond?

I used the walkthrough from mindrec (http://turbo.mindrec.com/files/legend.of.xanadu-faq1) - it's vague (to put it nicely), but there's enough there to finish the game.

Thanks again gbaplayer. :D

I'm moving to a different city right now onto campus for college and don't have time to put up level 3, but have this on the top of my list; sometime in the next few weeks when I'm not constantly either driving, working, or moving.

Again, my apologies to everyone for the delay on this.

No worries man! At the rate I'm playing this game, I won't need part three for another year. :D I'm trying to focus on it now though, playing an hour every couple months isn't the way to do it. Thanks for your work, I really appreciate it!

I've finally gotten around to playing this. Currently I'm on chapter 8.

Here's the best Japanese walkthrough I've found on the internet. Since it's just a bunch of blog posts, it's not very well organized, so I'll link each chapter here. Even if you don't read Japanese, you can probably plug this into some translation software and get a good enough idea.

Prologue: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-495.html
Chapter 1: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-496.html
Chapter 2: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-497.html
Chapter 3: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-499.html
Chapter 4: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-501.html
Chapter 5: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-502.html
Chapter 6: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-503.html
Chapter 7: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-504.html
Chapter 8: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-505.html
Chapter 9: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-506.html
Chapter 10: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-507.html
Chapter 11: http://jungfraujoch.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-508.html

I just might translate this and make my own walkthrough later.

Comparing Xanadu 1 and 2, I think 2 does better in most areas. The graphics and music are better, the menu design is smarter, the event-progression is streamlined and filler-free, and the environments are more unique and memorable.

But 1 is certainly a much grander game - there's more chapters, more areas, more characters (party and NPC alike), more music, and a longer and taller story arc. Not to mention, I think Xanadu 1 may have the most interesting dialogue of any PCE RPG I've played yet. It's charming and funny, with a wide range of personalities and just the right amount of goofiness.

It'd be great if the progress we made in the Xanadu 2 translation could be applied to Xanadu 1. However, I am afraid of one thing: there may not be space for English text. Unlike Xanadu 2, which dynamically loads things off the CD as you play, each chapter of Xanadu 1 fits completely into the PCE's RAM, and the disc is never accessed until the boss areas. It's probably reasonable to expect that there's not a lot of room to spare in the RAM. This is made worse by the fact that there is tons of text in each chapter. As a rule, it's fair to expect English text to need twice as much space as Japanese text, though good compression can bring that down somewhat.

I asked Esperknight to take a look at it sometime. At least with the chapters laid out like they are and a debug code that allows instant access to any chapter, it should be relatively easy to locate and extract all the text.

I just finished it.

Definitely a fun, personality-rich game. Thank god they made the middle floors of the final tower not as difficult as the first ten or so, because I was about at my limit. Speaking of the tower:

http://tea-break.sblo.jp/article/51018751.html
http://tea-break.sblo.jp/article/51359644.html
http://tea-break.sblo.jp/article/51728270.html

Behold, maps of every floor and tips on what you're supposed to do (in Japanese). I just wish I had found this stupid site a little earlier.

Anyway, as I was saying before, the best aspects of this game include its large scale, the quantity of different areas and different music, and the entertaining dialogue between so many different kinds of characters. This would definitely be fun to translate, that's for sure. And I better not leave out the beautiful side-scrolling stages. Did you know that you can play all of those in a row from the debug/premium menu?

Xanadu 1 is by far the most fetch-questy game I've ever played, but that was in no way a bad thing in and of itself. It's generally interesting to see how the plot evolves when it's happening this way, and the centralized structure is a nice break from the more typical plow-ahead structure of other RPGs. However, nonetheless, the fetch-quests are the source of my main criticisms of the game.

First of all, it practically requires a walkthrough. Even if you understand what the characters are saying, the thing that you're supposed to do next, the event you're supposed to trigger, is often very difficult to guess. It's nice that the characters change what they say frequently, so at least you get to read something different as you make repeated rounds talking to everyone, but I can't imagine playing this without any help whatsoever.

Second of all, a portion of the running around/event triggering feels unnecessary and distracting, like they only thought to add it because they were trying to pad the play-time. In the chapters that have it worst, it does real damage to the pacing and flow of the story. It's a shame, because it takes a good 20-30 hours to beat Xanadu 1, and cutting only about 2 hours worth of extra "fetching" would have been a substantial improvement.

Well, enough of that. I need to get busy appending things in my Xanadu 2 translation! I didn't know クレーネ was a woman. #-o

Even with the extra padding in Xanadu 1 (which may add 2 hours of fetching, as you indicated), it sounds fascinating.

This is one of those titles that has the potential to reach out and grabs all folks (literacy permitting), even if they aren't particularly into the ARPG/RPG genre.

I had a grand time simply reading your detailed posts.  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

Dunno if this video got around much, but it's a demo/promo for Xanadu from 1993 (likely distributed on LD in that period) - it was re-released on DVD in 2003 on a special bonus disc that Falcom included with the Limited Edition box set of "Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim."

Guides for this game are hard to come by - one of the few I found essentially told you to blindly talk to everyone because he didn't want to "spoil" the game by giving away the answers...

I bought it because the ecstatic Duomazov review, but the language barrier is so extremely high that it's hard to do much of anything. I'd like to eventually try out the "apparently" more non-native-friendly Kaze no Densetsu: Xanadu II. Though in a short time I've become very wary of peoples' definitions of "low language barrier."

Post by: Necromancer on July 16, 2015, 09:09:15 AM
If all you have to do is talk to everyone, then that is a low language barrier.  The tough one's are the games that have obtuse puzzles or very specific tasks that must be completed before you can progress (like going to the dock on the lake at a certain time in Xanadu), where you're screwed if you can't read the instructions.  At least those can be passed with the help of a guide, though, unlike random order timed quizzes, where your only chance is blind luck.

There is a debug mode which lets you play only the action stages, either individually or all in a row.

My LoXII guide is as detailed as can be, but I'm not sure if I've posted online the last revision I was working on which has maps drawn out.

I think a lot of folks on this forum would like to see the game in English. And I think we may be able to make it happen.

I did the LOX Debug mode on a Tiny 12" Funai CRT at the MGC '14 this past year, we spent some good time on it Saturday, and after my Duo popped the sound circuit we switched it over to nullity's Sony PVM (dude srsly thanks) and played all of the action stages. At one point, I was giving a demo to the folks from some other gaming (NESticle 64) clan, and I remember accidentally screaming "f*ck" every time I accidentally went to a cutscene, and would have to fill the time with some story about how it was the BEST YEAR EVAR. Because it was. MGC f*cking rocked, and they still loved the game, started freaking the f*ck out, and their toasters had nothing to compare.

I think TSA knocked my systems around on the plane flight and that was the reason they both went down for the count. The sound circuit repair failed on one unit, and the power on the other. They also stole my margarita mix, took my Swiss Army Knife, and left me a note telling me that they ripped apart my duffel bag and "double-checked" the 2 PCE Duo's in my bag because they were "electronics". Bastards.

Anyway, Next year I'm going to bring a scanline projector and broadcast the game on a wall. And hopefully I will have some storyline cliffs notes.

over and out

So, I've got the rig set up today on the Briefcase. It looks tight but saves like shit. I accidentally deleted all of the saves at the MGC this past year on teh Duo with the Turbo button on the AVE6 I used to set up the system. I have to use the "DEBUG CHEAT" on teh briefcase to get back to the place where I was at for the walkthrough. I know people sometimes freak the f*ck out over this and lose their shit, but this isn't a high score thing. The screenshots that you will see may display a generic gold or experience count as a result of this. I(ex. 1000000g, LVL 16) as opposed to some more complex number. I can't save. I apologize if this does not count as a 1cc. Resuming shortly.

Hey that's awesome news regardless! I thought I was going to have to use the all Japanese walkthrough that SamIAm posted on the last page.

I'm currently about midway through area 2. I've had some weird saving issues though. I formatted my TG CD and had nothing on it. Didn't have any saving problems until I got to stage 2. I went through the cave and got back to town, but when I went to fire it up again my save was from much earlier. I checked my saves on the system and there were two extra ones. Really weird. Happened to me twice. I have to play through that cave a 3rd time now, but at least I know it real well now.

I don't want you to lose your data and be screwed, but I wonder what would have happened if you erased the older save files and only kept the most recent one?

Well I was able to figure out which one was mine through trial and error and through use of a Tennokoe card. Pretty strange. I accidentally started a new game instead of continuing my old one, so I thought that may have added something else in the mix (even though I didn't save).

Necro's link to the mindrec faq looks busted. Here's the first bit of the guide gbaplayer found.

This FAQ is intended to help players who can't read the japanese text in the game. It is not designed to be a translation or a walkthrough. Not every part of the game is covered, just those which are the most difficult beacuse of the language barrier. I don't want to put in solutions to all the puzzles and spoil the whole game.
Contributions/questions/comments are more than welcome, just e-mail me at shir@wam.umd.edu. All contributors are credited at the end of this FAQ.

Contents:
I. beginning non-obvious stuff.
II. Important points in each of the game's areas.
III. Miscellany.
IV. Contributors and credits.

conventions used:
"-" delineates an explanation
"="      "    "       an item in a list of items.
"--"      "    "       an explanation of a discrepency. If anyone knows the answer, please email me!

I.-----------------------------------------------
1. Stuff explained in the instruction book that isn't obvious.

Title Screen
-At the title screen, you are presented with three options.
=the first begins the game with the opening cinema.
=the second begins the game without the opening cinema.
=begin the saved game?

--The last option only seems to work in certain circumstances, other times is just does the same function as #2?

Yes/No Responses
-Sometimes you will be prompted for a yes/no answer. A small box with two choices and a orange highlight will appear. The left option (two characters) is Yes ("hai"), the right one (three characters) is No ("iie"). Sometimes you will be asked questions by people.

--I have heard that you may have to do more or less to advance depending on what response you give to people. I would say that it's renerally a good rule to say Yes to everyone.

Character Development System
-The method that is used to make your character is different than the standard 'level up' method of most RPGs:
=You can raise your MAX HP by losing HP and then recovering it. The amount that you gain MAX HP is a function of how much HP is recovered.
--anyone know what the exact relationship is?
=You can raise your ATTACK power by attacking enemies that take more than one hit to destroy. Attacking weak enemies will not help.
=You can raise your DEFENSE power by getting hit by enemies. Defense power will increase until it is greater than the enemy's attack power, at which point the enemy will run away from you.

Death
-When you die, you will turn into a ghost. To return to life, talk to the priest at the chapel (starting point for every area).
To recover HP, you will be able to sleep in one of the beds in the chapel.

Sub-Screen
-There are a number of options which can be toggled on and off:
=AUTO button
--don't know what this does. Maybe auto-save game???
=SPD button
-when ON, increases the speed of your character.
=Mess button
-when ON, messages will scroll by w/o any noise.
=ATT button
-when ON, your NPCs will attack enemies.
=BGM button
-toggles background music on/off
=FONT button
-when ON, allows you to see under text windows.
=GRP button
-when ON, you can see the percentage of your equipment strength displayed graphically on the main screen.
=ALM button
--unknown?

Items
-Items are explained on page 30 of the manual. The function of all of them is not readilty apparent so here's an explanation:
=Capsules (100 GEM)
-will recover some HP. You can have up to 99.
--item seems to recover approx. 1000 HP???
=Elixir (500000 GEM)
-for much of the game, you can't buy this. SAVE THEM. They will recover ALL your HP.
=Hourglass (100 GEM)
-allows you to change the time of day. When equipped, it dramatically slows the passage of time.
=Wing (1000 GEM)
-warps you back to the chapel.
=Mushroom (500000 GEM)
-increases your MAX HP permanently. Temporarily increase in MAX HP if equipped.
=Gold Rin, Necklace, Silver Ring
-These will increase your arms, armor, or shield power independent of the MAXIMUM if equipped, or will increase the equipments' power percentage if used as an item. It's better to equip them.

Maximums
-the maximum possible HP is 999999.
-there is no known maximum for GEMs. After 999999, the display will turn yellow and the counter will appear to reset, but all GEMs will be accounted for.
-There are 14 Mushrooms to be found in treasure chests throughout.
-There are 7 Elixirs " ".
-There are 12 gold rings and 12 necklaces " ".
-There are 14 silver rings " ".
-Of these items, only the Mushroom and Elixir can ever be purchased, and those two can only be bought in area 12.

II.------------------------------------------------------
2. Notes On Various Areas Of The Game

-The game is played in 12 distinct areas. Each begins with a overhead sequence and ends with a side-scroll sequence. Since the top-view parts can be extremely difficult, notes are provided for each section.

=Area 1
-Xanadu can be rather frustrating at times, this first section is particularly annoying since there's lots of talking to do and many significant events before progress can be made.
-There is a map of this area included in the instruction booklet.
-The rest of this section is by marcoux@star.enet.dec.com:
-The whole objective is to get key that opens a sealed door in the cave in the north. This will place you in the side-scrolling form of play. To get the key you will need to rescue villagers trapped/held hostage in the cave. To get these villagers into the caves in the first place requires a fair amount of interaction/dialog by your character with various towns/people.
-A significant point is to get a character (blob) to join you. He should be in the very northern part of the area. When you into him, you'll notice something is diff. Sound is diff, result of hitting him is diff...what I did, eventually, is disarm myself. You can remove all items on the subscreen. When I touched him again there was a dialog box session and he joined me. Then you can go back and re-arm yourself.
-Another milestone is a meeting on the dock at the southern most village. A group/ship departs...If I remember correctly when that last event ocurred the game leveled up...enemy characters changed (became toucher)...the cave in the north originally had no monsters, now it will be loaded.

=Area 2
-The map to this section is also in the instructions. IMHO, Area 2 is the easiest in the game to complete.
-The only way you can get to the other side of the map is via boat.
-There's a hidden room in one of the deserted/ruined houses. Meeting someone at the forest clearing in the north opens up a new path underground. This leads to an area you previously could not reach during earlier cave exploration.
-In the cave, pay attention to the grey squares on the ground. They have arrows on them which point to significant areas (this is not readily apparent).

=Area 3
-You will have to get through a number of events to get to the other side of the map, where the castle is. The map for this area is also in the instructions.
-A broken bridge is just above the town so one cannot cross. There is a character near the bridge with what appears to be a pot. All the town buildings are closed to you but people will answer their door and talk briefly before closing the door on you. This lower area also has 2 caves in the mountain region to the right. The cave furthest away has sealed door in its first room. The nearer cave eventually leads to a rock formation that gives you a crystal/shard. Upon returning to town with this, one of the villagers takes it from you and the character near the pot dialog changes. If you get another crystal/shard from the cave, that pot character takes it from you and you then enter the pot/cannon and are shot into the air across the stream into another town. Characters on the other side talk with you briefly in that town. Exploring the upper half area NE reveals a CASTLE with a prison/bakery/library/stable. Many dialog exchanges here. A long exchange with a character near the library that is interrupted by a guard a # of times. Talk to everyone again in all villages, go back to castle and talk with one of the cahracters behind a desk while 'unarmed'..he will give you what looks like a letter.
-give the letter to guys in the north most town with the things that look like hammers. They will go to the bridge and repair it.
-when you get to the bridge those same guys should be there.
Talk to the guard and the bridge is repaired.
-go back to the northern town and speak to the mayor. An event will occur.
-in the castle, one of the torch-holders can be lit. It's the left-most one in the main horizontal hallway. Lighting it will reveal a door to appear where there was only a wall at the top of the main vertical hallway.
-the next significant event happens in the south-most town in the area.
-visit the castle again, as you leave there will be a conversation between the members of your party.
-visit the mayor at the north-most town again and you should recieve an ENVELOPE.
-go back to the castle and talk to the old man behind the desk. He will open the route upstairs and introduce you to the king.
-most locked doors in the castle will be open. There will be butt-loads of treasure to collect.
-before leaving, speak to the other guy who is usually behind a desk in the main floor of the castle. He will give you a KEY.
-the key will let you go into the southern-most cave. Explore it and at the end will be the side-scroll scenario with the boss at the end.

=Area 4
-This area is an arctic type world. From the chapel where you begin, they loayout of the world is as follows:
=a hermit's house to the NW of you
=an inconspicuous trail leading to a clearing NNE of you
  =a town S of you
=an enormous area of plateaus and valleys E of you. Most of this part of the area will be inaccessible until a few things are done...
-Explore/talk to everyone and eventually an event in the SW(main house) will trigger. Your party splits up. Explore/talk to everyone again...
-try searching the 'desk' in the NW-most house in town. You should get a silver thing that looks like a '>' symbol. Give it to the hermit guy (in the house north of town). He should be gone next time you visit. If you go east from his house, there is an inconspicous path you can follow between the plateaus and the mountains... follow it until you get to a small clearing. Something should happen here and you'll get another item that looks like a paisley? Give that to the hermit (he should be back) and for some reason the path that was blocked will now be clear.
-The rest of the area is easier and more logical to figure out, but there's a fair amount to do...
-notable events
=getting code from hermit for the block/stone sequence to unlocked cave.
=get book from bookcase at main house and give to character in cave. Where crystals are located.
  =take/position crystals on correct altars.
=have the large rabbit?(at hermits hut) go with you to aid in opening pathway. This is where a large column is blocking your path.
=have ptience with floor spikes :) just get that timing down '-)

=Area 5
-This area is an island-type world. Many islands and towns connected via bridges. From where you begin:
=you're in a town surrounded by mountains
=large bed of flowers far N of that town
=large conglomorate of islands and stuff E and NE of that town.
-After upgrading weapons, I did some exploring to get familiar with the area. There are 3 towns, a home NE, locked up east, hut old woman (OW)/chicken North.
-at OW's house, bookcase to left always has some text, bookcase to right appears to give you a code?
-need to visit shrine in lake. You initially meet a char in the first village (ctr) and later meet him at pier NE of first town. You will have to go there 3 diff times.
-flower's only bloom from about 1am-->6am
This is the first area I needed to actually use the wing
-visibility of enemy char's come and go...I'm not sure why
-Main points...
-you party breaks up...
talk to everyone 1st town. Go E to 2nd town do the same. Go back to the 1st village. Talk to everyone again...there s/b 2 char's at ctr sq. Talk to them. This is when I explored area more thoroughly and leveled up. Re-visited all town's/houses. Then eventually...
-In 1st village ctr sq. will be 3rd char...talk to him. He leaves. He is the one you need to meet at pier outside 1st town at/after midnight. He returns you to the pier and leaves...go to 2nd town...old man's (OM) house with rabbit?
-eventually old man in 2nd village falls asleep. Talk all in town. Now go to hut with old woman. She explains flowers. Need to get at least 20. Go to area N of 1st village and get flowers.
-after 20 flowers return to old woman...they start working on something...return later (to get what looks like armor or a cloak?)
-3rd village nw house...get bottle and key. Used key at locked hut E, but nothing seems to have happened? go back to 2nd town...some party members back.
-go back to old woman, get what looks like armor or a cloak?, form up
-game levels up...monsters change.
-on way to former locked hut party members break up again...2 are guarding bridges the 3rd I can't find.
-lure one of the enemy char into former locked hut that is E. Take care not to kill this char. Try to exit hut...an event takes place.
-go to OM home...then to NE house, father is now gone...go back to OM home...he is now awake. Go back to NE house, new event...you're now off to the island.
-warped back to OM's home. talk to all...go to OW's house...new event lots of text...stairway appears...new item (pink stone)...figure out column switches.
-talk to diff old man on island near OW's house.
-talk to previously empty home in 3rd town...go back to OM's home, get new item (lt grn bottle)...this is where party members stay again (I think)...talk to NE house within2nd town...boy leaves...you need to go to pier...boy takes you to shrine again...
-explore all you can...figure out column switches (code) from cabinet helps, OW from mainland is here...after you've done all you can, warp back to the church...
-go to OM's home---reform with party members...talk to everyone...go back to pier NE when you're ready for the end of level...back to shrine
-go to all wall switches...eventually your party members will talk to each other. This talking is a necessary event, without that happening you cannot get the OW to help you... I'm not sure exactly what triggers it, but going between wall switches seems to be a catalyst, I did this part twice and both times this talking event took place at the right side wall switch, she is needed to active the switches so you can proceed...
-after you talk among yourselves, go to the OW...she will leave...the right side will be done first...go to the spot across from her, she will help you pass, when finished you must release the wall sw on your side...then go to where she is...she will leave to do the left side...go across from that...make sure you have all you need as this will shortly take you to the side-scroll section of this level.

=Area 6
-Layout of world is as follows:
  =begin in a town.
  =cave far N of you
  =another cave NE of you
  =isolated town E of you
  =another hermit's house E of you
-Talk to everyone in the first town (FT). Upgrade armor/sword, shield will soon be found in a cave.
-go through mountain tunnel and explore cave (RC), ringed by mountains. party breaks up here, go back to FT.
-in town get letter, go NE and give letter to man, he clears path. Continue to isolated home (IH) after long mountain pass, talk to char here.
-go back to FT, get hanky???, then go back to IH.
-at IH give hanky???, then check bookcase, get 12 dynamite sticks, go back to FT talk to all.
-go to the south most cave (SC), use D on blocked pathways, this leads to twon (IT) in mountains you could see before but not reach, go to all doors, continue on another pass to a large isolated house (LIH), go to doors, then eventually back to FT. Talk all, new event, one of the priest? leaves, talk all.
-go to IT, talk all, go to LIH, new event, all gather around someones bedside, talk all, back to FT.
-talk to all at church, new event, other member breaks off, here is where I got the vial, I think, talk all in FT, boy leaves from ctr home.
-Get vapor/could drop in woods NW of first town.
-Back to FT, church - event, now have bottle.
-Back to LIH, event, talk all, go to IT, talk all.
-go to FT, event, member leaves, monsters overrun town, go to church, talk all.
-back to LIH, member rejoins, talk all.
-meet a # of char's at various places on this level:
=NE of pathway to IH from shoreline
=on crag of mountain pass to IH
  =In the SC
  =just NW outside SC
-an event occurs in RC, in the empty room, at 17:00

I tried to OCR it, but there were enough mistakes I just hand typed it. I'll finish it unless someone tells me it's already online somewhere. My wrist hurts enough from typing the first 6 areas, I don't want to waste effort if someone beat me to it! :D

I'll work on typing the second half that you didn't finish sometime today. Well done! :)

EDIT: I'll finish typing this once I'm done playing the game myself. Don't want to spoil anything for me unless need be.

=Area 7
-Layout of world is as follows:
=it’s rather linear, there is a maze NE of town.
=a path leads out of the maze and passes a number of significant locations:
  =an empty house
=a cave on the north side
=the path ends at an enclosed beach and lake.
-You will have to rescue a girl in the maze
-When you reach the palace, there is a KEY very cleverly hidden in one of the corners of the place…it is in the dead-end corner just after the right hand bridge in the center of the first floor of the palace.
-another clever hidden thing, there is a TREE (only one in this world) to the W of the maze, just after the first town.
-eventually enter cave north(NC) and talk all, back to town – talk all, back to NC, back to town, when leaving town…new member joins.
-go to P door…do all you can then go to NC, then town then NC again and get what looks like a wand.
-back to town…all NPCs have moved from SW home to SE home, event – marriage?
-back to NC return wand?, at P someone arrives and opens door, explore all you can…next door opening warps you to FM…talk all…try P door again, same warp to FM, talk at town, event at main house, go back to P, rescue another NPC, warp to cave, talk all here and back at town, then go to bookcase at HNFM…talk all, then back to P.
-explore palace area, lots here. Do what you can then eventually meet a character at FM, then back to HNFM
-get leaf from tree west of HNFM, back to HNFM and get item (bottle).
-Back to NC, revive character, then back to P and finish loose ends.
-at golden statues…various combinations of worn items are what turn the statues grey. After this the blue warp tiles are activated. I recommend having a bunch of healing capsules and hopefully you still have some bottles with the healing elixir left. Working your way through the tiles leads to the side-scroll stage…this is the toughest one yet.
-this is what you need to do to get the statues to go all grey:
=touch statue 5 normally with all equipment unequipped
   =touch statue 1 …
   =touch statue 2
   =touch statue 3
   =touch statue 6
   =touch statue 4
(in this case, touch means ‘talk’)

=Area 8
-a very mountainous world. Weapons get pricey so make sure you have lots of spare gems
-there are a number of ‘slave farms’ along with slaves, traders, and fields and houses for each.
-you can get keys to get into the overseer’s and slave’s homes.
-Pyrra;s hosue is at the far north. You will have to scale the wall. Try going up in a diagonal zig-zag motion to avoid falling rocks.
-lots of ladders. Boarded up mine entrances, starting at church. There is a house east with an old man/girl NE(EOM), cemetary easy, blocked entrance just NE of church. House after scalable cliffs NW (HSC). Slaves/traders SW. 2 sets of slaves (SH1)(SH2) traders (T). AND A BLOCKED PATH (BP). Large building west (LBW) 2 small cabins attached just south of LBW. Items are expensive but with having and leveling up.
-lots of back and forth between areas, particularly ‘traders’/’slaves’ and the east old man with girl NNE (EOM)
-get key at scalable cliffs use at desk of bookcase in HSC, access HSC with ladders. Lots of back and forth…2nd time at EOM you should get what looks like a piece of cloth…pay the money to enter the slave/trader area…Eventually you can access each desk in the overseer rooms of those ‘slave’ homes. You could always enter that room but nothing much happened, eventually after trying all sorts of stuff with/without weapons, when tried to access the overseer room in the ‘slave’ house closest to the church. I was warped to the ‘traders’ house. Should the piece of cloth and 2 keys. The man at EOM forges them for you I believe.
-After that and having the keys mentioned above, I could access each desk (only once) in both ‘slave’ homes, when you do you don’t get an item just text. I don’t believe the keys were used yet, just that the particular event has taken place.
-After that you need to talk to the slaves in the homes…I did it getting caught and without getting caught, after they march back, wait till they enter and the overseer is out of sight, talk to all slaves…if morning arrives while you’re still in there you will be warped back to the ‘traders’ house…you have just about enough time to get the information you want and get out…I did it both ways, not sure if that’s necessary, also talked to them in the fields after…then go to the EOM, get item, then go to the W end to the man blocking path at bottom of ladder, give item and you can then pass by.
-explore west side…go to LBW, event, party breaks up. Talk all, this includes: slaves both at night and in fields. Go to EOM…get bottle. This bottle will put 2 traders to sleep…then go to HSC…get what item (looks like grapes) back to T, give item and while he is out of building go to his bed…get item, when he returns you get ring.
-give ring to 2-114 slave at west most slave house SH2. Back to LBW and reform party.
-Now go to mine south of LBW, open entrance, talk all. Visit store…text exchange, then go to EOM. Talk all…back to west mine. Then visit the left most grave in cemetary, new text. Back to EOM, talk girl, event, then talk all again.
-things have now changed…back to T need to pay bucks to enter again. Talk all…talk all slaves again, particularly SH2, continue West…explore all here eventually, back to EOM…event, he leaves. I explored and talked to everyone again while looking for him, he is now at back of cemetary…event…enter and explore. There are trapdoor floors and hidden passages.

=Area 9
-extremely linear and easy area here.
-not many people to talk to, just continue to talk with everyone again and again and you’ll make steady progress.
-not much of significant difficulty, this area is primarily a action/fighting type stage.

=Area 10
 -Desert land
-You’ll need to interact with a number of characters, some only at night (roof top-left). The land is layed out like this…
-a town plus 4 pyramids in a diamond shape with 4 stones in the middle of the diamond. A simple representation follows: (picture taken from another guide that SamIAm posted that I think is better) (http://blog-imgs-44-origin.fc2.com/j/u/n/jungfraujoch/201101270417491fb.png)
-Once you get an amulet/chestplate? You should be able to move the statues in front of the pyramid entrances. At some point you will need to enter the pyramids. Ensure you talk to everyone, particularly it appears the kids/students on the 2nd floor, left most room (library?).
-Entrance to pyramids require all 8 statues face in the compass direction of the one you wish to enter. Ex…all 8 need to face right/east to enter the east/right pyramid. Once mini-bosses are defeated and you get the harp.
-talk to all in town. You need to free Argos and your party has to form into 5 members. Once the 4 adventurers leave you’ll need to go find them. They will be located on a border square, roughly between the S/E pyramids. It’s a wasteland square. Just outside of the diamod. Talk to them and wait until sunset…there should be a large shadow moving from east to west, an event will occur an take you to the new area.

I am currently at this bit here using a japanese guide but it stops at area 7. So this is helping somewhat. This bit here needs to be slightly altered.  You need to obtain 3 bottles from EOM.  They can be obtained from EOM's drawer. But you can only carry one at a time.  The part where you pick up the grape item to give to the Trader also needs to have a bottle in your possession.

=Area 8
-explore west side…go to LBW, event, party breaks up. Talk all, this includes: slaves both at night and in fields. Go to EOM…get bottle. This bottle will put 2 traders to sleep…then go to HSC…get what item (looks like grapes) back to T, give item and while he is out of building go to his bed…get item, when he returns you get ring.
