Are the CD drive thingies compatible with a US Duo? I ask because I have a modded Duo that I love, but the damn redbook audio has been cutting out and it's really pissing me off. I was thinking of just buying a Japanese Duo, swapping out the CD drive or the mother board, and then selling my old one on ebay or something for parts (last one I saw on there "for parts" went for almost $100!).

If anyone had an answer it would D-Lite. He has alot of experience with that.
-
they are the same cd drive I do believe.same as Duo R even.
-
I remember D-Lite saying its more of a problem with the motherboard than the CD-Drive itself. Something about putting what was thought to be a dead CD drive into another system and it worked perfect.
-
Oh damn that sucks, yeah I forgot about that, thanks for the heads up. He did say it was some problem with capicitors or something on the motherboard.

The CD unit itself is the exact same on the US Turbo Duo and the JP Duo, DuoR, and DuoRX.
Regarding the CD unit and swapping it. A new CD unit definitely seems to improve shoddy audio, but it won't solve the problem. I still can't isolate what circuit is shitty on these things and it's driving me nuts. I even figured out which circuit is responsible for the "speech synthesis" in the games and got replacement parts for that, but that's only a problem in very very rare cases (found one actually).

Hey D, a little off topic, but do you think my TE is salvageable?
How you been?
Take care!
