Title: How do you like your turbo games?
Post by: bartre on March 10, 2012, 01:13:58 PM
So, we've all got either a Turbografx or a PC Engine, and presumably some games.
How do you keep your games?
Do you go for loose cards, JIC, or CIB games? US or JP games? Why?
Personally, I go for JIC games, and US region games when there was one, but i do play my share of JP games.

I never did understand the reason that some of the US games are so much more expensive than the JP versions.
I just ordered a copy of bomberman 93 (JP) for about $6 complete, but the cheapest copy of the US version i've seen was about $80

When possible I go for case, manual and game. I'm willing to compromise on this, I've got plenty of cases that are repro's and I'm missing several manuals. I don't particularly care about boxes. Games are stored in cases on a cheap CD rack:

Most non-game hucards are stored in a busines card binder:

I'm exactly like Sadler. I really prefer to have a case as I don't like loosies. If I get something loose, I'll throw it in a generic jewel case and make up a label for it. Mine are all on a set of cheap DVD racks as well, sorted alphabetically. None of that ridiculous JP/US or Hu/CD segregation nonsense.

I prefer to have the case and manual. It's part of the experience, for me. I don't need the spine cards (OBI), but I'll admit I was curious about what they (OBI) were like when I first started buying Japanese titles (many moons ago).

Mostly cib but i don't need no outer box if any thing at all same thing on the obi.

I go for Case and Manual, no case NO BIGGIE ill make my own. Just looks better on the shelf and easy to find the game you want.

For TG16 Hu-Cards I have the game and manual for each TG16 game I own.  I have most of the cases, but probably 30%-40% of my games are generic case with Sparky sticker.  I have a few boxes laying around, but don't care much for them.

TG16 CD games I have complete with case and manual.  I don't have the slip cases or boxes for all of them, but don't want them either.

PCE games, I have everything from loose and looking like garbage to complete, I am a lot less concerned about the look of the import games because they are harder to get, so I take what I can get.

Personally, I choose to go for the game in jewel case with manual.  Not a collector of boxes or spines, so they get given away to peeps here.  Also, depending on the game, I will pick up a loose one, until I track down a complete copy.  The loose game gets raffled off here afterwards.  I have a loose copy of Long Nose Goblin right now, just waiting on a complete copy.  :)

I own a TurboGrafx-16 and a TurboDuo. I currently have 16 HuCARD, a CD-ROM² & Super CD-ROM² game (coincidence?). When possible I stick with cartridge/CD, manual, and case without concern over including a large cardboard box; that's more of a bonus if the price is right. All too often stores will greatly mark-up a difference between the completeness albeit poor condition. To save $10 by passing on a large box is easily another game to be owned at a later time and played in addition to neatly residing next to other titles. Only 3 of my HuCARD games are loose but that's due to being bundled with a system among other cased games. On the question of importing, I have stuck with domestics for the TG-16, however both of my Super CD-ROM² and CD-ROM² games are imports for play on the Duo. The majority of CD-ROM games I spot in stores are Japanese whereas desirable HuCARDs are domestic as I would rather not own numerous imported sports titles. Until I stumble across a TG-16 import worth investing in a converter I plan to hold off.

I "segregate" my games by region and format.  Boxes are stored off in the closet; I don't have room to put them on display.

For U.S. games I have the manuals and original jewel cases.  I don't care about boxes unless the game didn't came with a case, in which case I have the boxes.  These "plastic-tray Turbochips" are stored in TV Sports/Keith Courage cases with Sparky's labels.  I collected the manuals and cases because I had half of the games by the late Nineties.  If I had to start over with prices like they are today, I would take whatever I could get.  Contemporary collectors who demand complete copies are insane.

When it comes to PC Engine games I absolutely don't care.  I can't read the manuals, the packaging holds no nostalgia, and I have no hope of ever completing a collection.  My only concern is playing the games on original hardware at the cheapest price.  Thus, I've ending up with about a dozen loose CDs stored in generic cases with some white trays I found.  I don't salvage any cases for my loose Hucards; they sit in aftermarket sleeves in a stack on top of the CDs.

For HuCards I generally go for Case, manual, card if it had a case, Hu + manual if it was a TTI HuCard (with exceptions to games I really really like). For CDs I like case, manual, card. If it came with a cardboard box I generally don't care to keep them.

Same as most here. Card, manual, and case if applicable for Hueys and CD, manual and case for CDs. I separate based on region and format. Homebrew and GE also get again separated from the official releases. I know, I know... bad, a$$hole Mishran; separating the homebrew from the officials... what nerve.

I try for CIB, but will never turn down complete in case. With the later HuCard releases it's CIB only for the collection, but HuCard only for the ones that get played regularly. Organized alphabetically, with no segregation.

ah yeah, mine are organized by Formats (Huey, Super Huey, CD, SCD, ACD, Hibaihin/Demos/mooks etc., US Stuff). And within the formats by Manufacturer/maker/publisher, if existent by Vol. numbers else by issue/release numbers.

I like all games in case with manual. TTI games I stick in cases with sparky labels. TG16 boxes are cool but I don't look for them. Loose PCE games are just ew. I like the foam things in PCE games, I wish I had more lol. Here's my stuff all organized by color lol

I'm a function-over-form kind of guy, so I don't really get the color/region/whatever segregation of organizing games. It's far easier for me to remember that Space Harrier starts with "S" and go to the "S" section than try to remember what region my copy is and what color the spine label is. To each his own.

I only buy US games if there is a lot of text. Otherwise, most of the time, when you are buying a US release you are paying exponentially more money for considerably inferior and less authentic product.

I only buy "complete" games, with my definition of "complete" being "game, case, manual". I don't make fake manuals, stickers, whatever. I don't give two shits about the obi or reply card.

They all go in my small but extremely dense closest which is also packed with laserdiscs and other such collectible stuff. They are seperated by format but not region.

I like them with the BOX, originally they were selled.
If you offer me a loose game for x money but, with x+1 I get it complete...guess what!

I get what games I can, complete or loose. Being a small collection, I just keep the Hu's on the right, and CD's on the left...group CD's by regular, SCD and ACD.

Always stack my Hu's for easy access.

Since I owned a turbografx as a kid, by nature I'm more incline to pick up the us version. I like mine with case, manual and sleeve and the box would be a bonus but not required. I avoid loosesy. I only pickup the pce only games I want to play and if the us version is ridiculesly expensive.

I've recently bought a few boxes and they're pretty cool but I usually go for JIC, I hate having stacks of loose games. If the game didn't come with a case I'll try to find I with a Manuel and just butcher a sports games case to put it in, with a sparky label of course.

Prefer mine complete in case (with manual and sleeve). Boxes don't really interest me.

I organize mine by spine color (HuCard, CD, Super CD), and then, alphabetically. But my collection isn't impressive yet, so the games look kinda jumbled together as of now

I usually go for the complete game(case, manual and game). When I get a game, I just throw it in my PC Engine game basket, or place it on a cabinet.
I keep some games upstairs with the good ol' GT. I know, I'm not that organized

I don't organize my shit.  It's all stored neatly on shelves in no particular order.

Oddly enough, I CAN FIND EVERYTHING.

Except for Arcade Card Pro.  I always seem to not be able to find it even though I am staring at it.

I like my Turbo games like I like my men. Black. +1 awesome points if you get that.

For hucards, I prefer getting loose, let the collectors have the cases and stuff. I do like manuals, but it's hardly a necessity since US manuals are largely useless, and the pretty Japanese manuals I can't read anyway. I put them in a large fake leather business card holder, organized by system cards and flash cart first, then by how much I like the game. It's kinda random, but it makes game selection easier on the go with the Turbo Express.

CD games, on the other hand, I get with case and manual in preferably mint condition. I don't care for the boxes or spine cards, however. I put them in a storage box in simple alphabetic order. It's not difficult, I only have a few CD games.

I don't have a list, but I think we started to make a list at some point (but it might have been at magicengine forums...) concerning all the odd package sizes (one of the Wizardry titles is in a "chubby single jewel case", for example).

CD-ROM + bonus audio disc... that wasn't too common for PCE. Hmmmm...

Man, looks extra organized having them organized by color. PROPS!
My DVD shelf looks almost the same as your's too, i recognize the classy 2 fold cardboard backing!
hahaha

Sadly...all my PCE/Turbo games and stuff are scattered in 3 different rooms in the house, haha.
1) Bedroom - to listen to the ones with great CD soundtracks
2) Living room - where my PCE used to be setup on the family tv
3) Game room - where the system currently resides along with a few games that i played recently

So no pictures until i get them organized...

I prefer cases for all my US games. For any Japanese HU games I prefer getting loose ones. I like to put together my own cases and inserts for them. This way I can write it out in english and actually be able to read the name of the game from the side of the case. Otherwise when I look for a game I'd have to sort through all my PC engine games until I find the one I am looking for. I used to do that and it was a big annoyance.

I just insert spine-shaped English text title strips into JP games that have regular jewel cases. On cart games that don't have standard jewel cases (ie, are similar to the US game cases) I just tape an English label on the spine.

I must admit that I much prefer to go for complete including outer box if and when possible, as long as the asking price is not astronomical for what it is. I will admit that I do segregate between Hu's, CD and Super CD Rom's but I do not bother to separate US/JP games, everything is alphabetical. I do not like loosies at all, I at least want a manual to go with it. I will than just place in a generic case with one of Sparky's lovely labels I bought a few years back.

Luckily for me I started buying CIB games back in like 2005-06. I am really surprised now by some of the prices most games seem to go for on auction sites. Anyhow, as long as it's not what I personally deem to be to pricey I will go for complete including outer box if there was one. I was lucky when I purchased my CIB Soldier Blade and others as I did not pay even half of what those will go for. In fact I won it in a lot, CIB copies of Neutopia II, Time Cruise, and Soldier Blade for only $126 and free shipping. That was back in like '09 so not that long ago really. Im shocked that Bomberman '93 seems to be about 80 bucks now, I remember when I used to own it I had purchased it for $30 back in '09 as well I believe. I also remember paying like only $50ish for my sealed(at the time) copy of Y's III.

I like to have Jewel case + manual for all games.  I could care less about the cardboard box.  I only have U.S games at the moment expect for my lone SF2 PCE Hu which I no longer have a way to play it :(

I like to try to get things in good condition.  Even as a kid I kept all my games and toys in good condition so nothing has changed.
