Title: Virtual Cushion
Post by: motdelbourt on March 25, 2012, 06:48:14 PM
Anyone ever actually try one of these things? How was it?
FYI there is one on Ebay at the moment (not mine): http://www.ebay.com/itm/VIRTUAL-CUSHION-pc-engine-turbo-duo-grafx-import-jp-RARE-/320808809933?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item4ab1b1f5cd

You can't be serious. You mean you actually play PC Engine without a Virtual Cushion?!?!?

It's no Aura Interactor but it's OK. I just had a great idea, I could USE BOTH AT ONCE! (http://m1sz1.com/pics/faint.gif)

Playing your PC Engine w/o teh Virtual Cushion is like eating all your meals w/o any use of salt.

A diy virtual cushion would be a fun project. I read a bit about it and how it works and doesn't seem too complicated. I would love a real one but yeah maybe if it was like $100. I do like metamor jupitor so it would be sweet to get the full effect. Now imagine if it was 3d as well you could would be basically a human pc engine at that point.

A friend of mine gutted a Aura Interactor and bolted it to the frame of his sofa. That worked pretty well.

I can't comment on the price, but I know the seller (no, it's not me). I've bought tons of stuff from him and I couldn't possibly recommend him more highly. He's a great guy who really cares for his product.
For what it's worth.

Your friend was ahead of his time. Clark Synthesis makes transducers that are designed to be attached to items like sofas and home theater seating. They shake and vibrate in sync with music and sound effects.

For that price, you could buy a decent sound system and just sit on the subwoofer.
Actually, that sounds pretty cool!

I can't remember for sure, but I seem to remember seeing a Virtual Cushion at WaldenSoftware around 1993-94. They occasionally imported so it's possible. I also want to say the cost was $69.99. I also seem to remember reading somewhere that it had a planned U.S. release date. Could be completely wrong about all of this, and can't be bothered to google it for myself.

Thanks for posting this. Looks pretty fun actually. Bet it would be good with shooters with lots of realistic explosion sounds, or power chords. I had no idea there were games that were "made" for it (lol).

That is the finest (and only) Virtual Cushion video (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png).
