Just as the titles states, got my AbCard in the mail today and couldn't wait to tear the box open and get some pics:

Sorry about the not so great quality pics, I took these in the car with my wife's phone (while she drove and made fun of me).The card itself looks really good considering they were made by hand IIRC. I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I'm pretty excited already! Thanks Arkhan and TheOldMan for putting these together!
-
GNOP is actually really fun. The other two are good for a laugh since having only one controller connected causes it to control all four ships or bikes at the same time.
-
Mine arrived today as well! It was brought to me by the letter "E". :-k

And the mystery of the letters deepens... C, E, P, and Y so far? :-k

... post serial #s, too guys....
-
Man, I really want one of these!!!

(http://junk.tg-16.com/images/cooks_transb.gif) Cook will give you an eensie-weensie clue about the mystery letters and what they spell:

Mine arrived, too--#12 and "!"
Why is there a "?" written in the corner of the label on mine?
-
I wonder if these will be sale at CCAGShow 2012...
-
Oh man! I didn't know these went to production! Guess I should read all the forums more carefully.
-
I got mine too ("B"), but didn't have time to play with it yet.
P.S. - Methinks le Cook knows what time it is.
-

Why is there a "?" written in the corner of the label on mine?
Because OldMan wasn't sure if your name was spelled right, lol.
Shove a tap-of-some-kind into the port, and see if the all-controlled-ships thing goes away.
The code to test that stuff still needs some fiddling. It works here! O_o weird.
but, I could see it being fun playing 4 ships at once, lol
what I want to know is if everyone has seizures playing GNOP or not.
also these are TEN PROTOTYPES, as stated like 400 times. They won't be on sale at CCAG, lol. No more exist.
The goal is to raise funds for a huge run to put Atlantean and shit on

Are there any left? Why don't you hold a contest or something to decide who gets to buy them. At least that would be fair.
Maybe start a thread on the forums so people here can also participate.

I hope this is sarcasm. Please let this be sarcasm.

Agreed.
-
i hope your not serious.
contests have been held, much as you suggested
-
I would like to make a suggestion:
In the interest of fairness, everyone on this forum should have a chance to get one of these Protocards.
Please consider this when making/distributing prototypes!
Thank you.
-
so how does everyone like the gnop song? I thought it turned out kinda awesome
-
These look great. Too bad everyone on this site is too good at playing games, would've loved to get one!
-

Yeah, sorry, what I meant to ask was if something like this would be available there, not these exact versions.
-
There won't be any widespread hucard release until Atlantean is done, basically.
-
The gnop music is catchy, probably what kept me playing pong for as long as i did the other night. :P Eargasm as advertised. Masteroids was fun too just a little cramped with everything on screen at once. I have to say I was pretty excited about trying out bytecycles, but for some reason I imagined it more like a Super Off Road instead of a Snake variant.
-
lol..
oh.
Well, we did release a reallllly old ass demo of it awhile back.
-
... post serial #s, too guys....
My serial number is 006 (code name PEB).
so how does everyone like the gnop song? I thought it turned out kinda awesome
It's cool but way too short - it loops roughly elebentythousand times before somebody wins.

Agreed. The farthest I've gotten in the games is 9-0 and I had to stop playing due to the song. It's a great song, but the game could use some more variety in the music dept imo.

On another note, does anyone else have a hard time getting their console to switch on when using the protocard? In my US TG16, it fits like a glove. Perfect. But in my PCE Duo (region modded), it's a very tight fit to get the switch to turn on. I have to use enough force that I won't play it in the Duo for fear of breaking something. And I can't get the switch to turn on at all with my Express. The spacing of the top piece isn't enough for the switch to slide over the card. I'm thinking about getting out a file and filing that top piece back some so it will fit universally. One of these days. :)
EDIT: This is not a complaint, just an observation I wanted to mention so future versions could be tweaked.
-
We tested them in 4 different machines, and didn't have any problems.
But...if you're going to file it down to make it work, the notch isn't the best place to do it. File the front of
the card, to make it shorter. And don't go nuts and file it too much.
(iirc, 50 strokes on 100 grit sandpaper => ~.0001 inch. It shouldn't take much. Just make sure you don't skew the front of the card.)
-
For whatever it's worth, my TurboDuo swallowed mine just fine. I'll have to try it out in the 'Express and RX for science.
-
Weird. They fit in my express fine, lol.
There will be more music. These are derpy prototypes, remember? :)
-
my card fit nicely, the pce took it all with no complaints.
-
Got my card in the post today :@)
011
Letter "E"
Card looks great, time to play :@)
-

Mine fits (very) snugly in my Duo-R. The AbCards could definitely use a bit more wiggle room.
-
On another note, does anyone else have a hard time getting their console to switch on when using the protocard?
While it worked fine in my TurboDuo, it's a tight fit in the 'Express and RX. It works but the power switches need a little help clearing the card's edge - the slight torque from sliding the power switch pushes the leading edge down just enough to hit the huey corner (needs the rounded corners of a 'real' huey).

I had similar difficulty fitting it into my Express... I had to hold the protocard against the system while i slid the switch over the card.
-
These look awesome.. Very jealous that i missed out.. but very awesome :) i hope this helps you get the funds you needed to move forward, and if you did have any more of the cards floating around id be happy to take one off your hands :)
I see another person making a new card aswell, any thoughts of combining efforts to help reduce costs?
-
Still hoping that the USPS fairy will be delivering mine soon..... They do look great!
-
The music for Gnop is awesome!
-

Sorry. Arkhan and I have had real life intruding, so they haven't been mailed yet.
Soon. Probably early next week.
Anyone try these with a multi-tap yet? I wanna know if the two-player stuff works okay :)
(And we're about ready to start round 2: the thin cards. More about that after I talk to arkhan.)
-
no rush.... you guys are awesome for just making this possible!
-
Yeah, I am in Chassamusetts atm. Had to take an emergency drive out here. My girlfriends grandpa died.
Luckily, we made it here in time for her to see him before that happened.
I'll be driving back to Ohio on Saturday.
Also: New York is one of the boringest experiences I've ever had in my life.
It felt like Enduro. lol.
-
Arkhan: Hope everything is OK. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

That is utterly preposterous!
-
I tried the game with a multitap and seemed to work ok, but I was playing by myself and using both controllers so it didn't get a lot of extensive 2p testing
-
Im back in my hood.
f*ck driving.
-
Sorry to hear about your Girlfriend's GP. Hope she's doing ok.
-
Out of interest I have just tried to use my card (requested and created in PCE format which works fine) on my Turbografx 16 using a Telegames converter and it does not boot, it displays the random colour/pastern screen.
Not a problem just thought that it was interesting.
-
hmmm. That's certainly interesting.
pics?
-
Make sure the card is in the adapter right.
Being a little to one side or the other can cause that.
The 'random' screen color is actually the chip not getting powered :)
The adapter cards don't have the switch to kick them into the correct position.
(I ran into this a -lot- while building them. And now you know why some of the cards are a little tight. )
-
Whoo hoo! Mine came today.
I'm guessing Ark is gonna make a ton of these. Mine didn't have a letter with it, but this...
Not sure what it means, but I'm guessing the other letter will help spell:
The Higher Energy Video Game System Rules!
Ok, time to try it out!!!!!
-
No, that paper simply means Energy Rules
as in, http://pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Energy.htm
bwahhahaha
hopefully you like the Gnop music as much as I does.
-
how do you get those?
-

-
Ark, the music in GNOP rocks!
Are you going to expand any of these games? Allow us to put some English on the ball?
I couldn't get 1 player in Masteroids or Bytecycles. I'm gonna try to get some 4 players on them. Might bytecycles seems like it's about 3x too fast for a first level..... very fast fatals!
Oh, and I solved the problem of fitting the fat huey in a laseractive! :) Street Fighter 2, Populous, and the Arcade Card Pro don't fit either.
-
You gotta be kidding me. It works running through 2 converters? Will wonders never cease...
'm guessing Ark is gonna make a ton of these.
Nope. No more. Proceeds from the sales are going towards the next generation :)
I couldn't get 1 player in Masteroids or Bytecycles.
Yeah, there's something not-quite-right in the tap detect code. It's not a problem on my tg16, but apparently it is on duos and such.
And we really need to fix that for later games :(
-
Yeah, and I believe that none of the converters work to play a US game on a Japanese system. Mine is a PCE ProtoHuey, so I needed to double the converters to flip the region back. I guess the glitch that keeps you from playing a US huey on a JPN system isn't an issue with the stacked converters. Probably the most useful tip that I discovered today. :)
-
I loled at that picture.
I want to go back and mess with GNOP at a later date.
the colors and music are sweet. The rainbow looks way better on TVs than on compooters.
It's weird (the tap detection). The results of it are kind of sporadic.
-

Hah! The Cook loves it! (http://pcengine.freeforums.org/images/smilies/cooks_transp.gif)
-
(http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c366/hrnn/d940fe75.jpg)
Yes.
-
Gnop music makes me wanna f*ckin dance!
-
I still sit down for some 1P GNOP. Game really is fun as hell, even for a pong game! The music keeps you into it. The rainbow effect gives me a headache after playing for a while though. Can't say I've had similar problems with any other game...
Warning: GNOP may cause seizures.
-
Never thought I'd say this, but that's a sweet rainbow!
-
Haha! Ark I love your little messages you send with the protos. They all speak the truth! Congrats on finishing the protos. I should've got off my ass to get one. Still it's nice to see everyone enjoying them. Also, Henry that is the best freaking setup ever!
-
Henry's setup has a turboner!
:D
I'm glad the Gnoptune is liked.
and that rainbow effect is Keith Courage inspired!
I plan to one day tweak Gnop to be a bit better with regards to ball physics.
-
add a 4 player option too like doubles tennis :)
-
lol.
that would be obnoxious.
I wish the Turbo had a paddle or trackball controller that was widely available.
It would have been great.
