Title: Cyber Core
Post by: soop on April 07, 2012, 02:29:28 AM
Anyone else own this?  It's atually a pretty sweet game IMO, and one of my original 7 games.  Played it yesterday and got to stage 3, and today I'm on stage 6 with one credit (last life though).  I was never that good at it back in the day, I'm not sure if I ever got past the first stage!

*edit* how the hell are you supposed to beat the level 6 boss?  Doesn't seem like I'm hurting him at all, and the red gem looking thing is too far away.  I don't have to get in his mouth do I?

I haven't played it in years, but I rented it for a day bitd during the period when I only had a Turbo Express to play on... and finished very quickly. I think it was my first play through. I still thought that it was a cool game.

Yeah, I've heard people knock it, but it's fun in it's own right.  As much fun as a lot of highly rated shooters, even if it's not technically amazing.

Cyber Core was the first shooter I got for the TG16 (back in about 2001 I think)  And I thought it was great.  The power up system was clever, the graphics were nice and the gameplay was smooth.  I'm surprised I dont hear more about it.

I am a big fan of Cyber Core.  When I bought my Turbo Express it came with a ton of sports games...  and Cyber Core!  It stayed in my express for like 2 weeks, great game.

In France, it has a bad reputation as it was bundled with lots of Core or Supergrafx's. That made people to believe it was given away as it was crap. But it's a rather good shooter, certainly the best game by IGS on the system.

Cyber Core is good fun from a B-title. I always enjoyed it.

Ha! I didn't know about Cyber Core's history in France! That is pretty interesting. What other games were bundled (if any) PCE hardware?

It truly is the best game IGS ever created.

FUN CYBER CORE FACT: When you beat the game, there is a cryptic message about... I can't remember exactly, but it is about "enjoying summer vacation" or "enjoying a summer shoot-em-up competition" or something like that.

SOLVE THE CYBER CORE MYSTERY![/u] If anyone can help figure out this enigmatic message (I've beaten the PCE HuCard, too, but I honestly can't remember how the US vs JP ending credit sequence compared).

I'm certain I've asked about this cryptic message before, but I can't recall any definitive answers.

Ha.  I'm listening to the Cyber Core soundtrack as I write this.  Great game.  I find it pretty challenging as well.  Bitd I could beat it, but I haven't been able to in the past year or so.

I think that people don't talk about it too much simply because it is a Turbo/PCE game. It'd be more noteworthy on SNES.

I haven't been able to beat this one legit yet... the final stage is very difficult with those fast flying bug swarms. I beat it using slow mo but can't count that as a clear. Need to give it another go at some point.

Battle Ace was bundled with some SGX (not mine unfortunately), Pacland and Youkai Douchuuki have also been bundled with Coregrafx's.

Bloody hell.  I totally get what Ragtime means.  FINALLY beat level 7 after a lot of continues (was NOT my A game today), and level 8 just destroyed me.
Level 7 is difficult, but it's fair.  I can't see me beating level 8 without a lot of luck dodging those blue things.

I think I'm happy with level 7 for now, I think I'm gonna rest Cyber Core for a few years O___O

I know you that you folks probably figured this out, but the "secret" to dodging is to start moving before you think you have to dodge. Ha! I know it is easier said than done, but, truly, once you realize that you can "improve" your twitch reflexes by systematically dodging (left, right, left, right) preemptively, you'll feel more confident.

To illustrate this technique, see Hany dodge left, then right:
