Title: New Mario Kart games
Post by: BigusSchmuck on April 12, 2012, 05:13:18 PM
Am I the only one who thinks they are way too cheap especially the latest ones like the Wii and 3ds versions? Seriously, what happened to the AI actually putting up a fight instead of just relying on luck?

The "catch-up rules" in the Wii version totally ruined it for me.

3ds version has it too, its pretty lame. Half tempted just to play multiplayer, but I still got stuff to unlock and its becoming more or less a chore with the cheapness of the AI.

Double Dash was great, the last two were not so great.

I know it will never happen, but I'd love to see a direct sequel to Double Dash.

The "catch-up rules" in EVERY VERSION SINCE AND INCLUDING THE 64 version totally ruined it for me.

Fixed that for you.

Seriously, blue shell, triple red shell, courses wider than the Atlantic, half a dozen thunder bolts per lap. Its just a slot machine now. Totally f*cking random. Tee ball, basically.

Super Mario Kart for life!

Super Circuit is pretty great too, even though it has that bullshit drifting in it.

I'm sure the catch-up rules have been in place for awhile now, but it became so annoying in the Wii game that I can't even enjoy what otherwise seems to be a fun game.

Mario Kart 64 remains my favorite, I can play Block Fort battles for hours.

Me and 3 other guys played the Wii game pretty frequently when it came out.  Two of us were good at the game and two of us were not so good.  The two good players still won almost every race, but the keep it close items at least made it interesting for the other two guys.

I totally agree with Zeta, as usual, and I suck at Mario Kart.  I did hear the DS one was good, but I'm not sure I can be bothered to find out.

The rubber band gameplay ruined Mario Kart 64 for me. I was not crazy about the SNES game, so the only other one I have tried is the DS version. The content was neat, but I think that these games are only fun with human opponents.

+1 :@)

Surely they could have come up with some better AI other than catch up and bombard you shells etc

Yes the AI sucks but whats worse are the dam cheats online when you play. Hopefully Nintendo fixes that issue with the Wii U and bans cheaters from playing online if they cant play fair.

There was something just missing from the Wii version too, the gameplay seemed very uninspired and left me bored, i don't know who actually developed the game but it did not have the same fun as previous Mario Kart games.

A lot of people I know like MK64 but hated double dash, for me its the other way around.

Mario Kart 64 was a HUGE letdown compared to the original.  I thought they fixed most issues I had with Double Dash.  Actually, I'd say Double Dash might be the best game in the series.  The newer Wii version is ok, just somewhat a letdown since Double Dash was SO great.

But seriously, how about a good F-Zero game for a Nintendo console?

Mario Kart 64 was great, when it was released. The best stage in that game was the mushroom expressway. The Rainbow raod ( like in Sonic R ) was the feat of the entire game, with the giant chomp chomp waiting in the middle of the road.

However I have gotten rid of that kart, since then. I have my original Mario Kart inside it's matching box, with inserts, and booklet. I haven't taken it out in a long time

The best feature about the original Mario Kart was skidding the shells so they would form a perfect circle.
You do a hard turn then release. Then of course it was
watching the shells released zoom across the screen.

Finally each player had it's special in the original. Which was unfair to the human players. Then you have the little dramatic view box, when a player would drop something.

Lastly was the hyper mode. That you had to be on your toes of the game machanics to work, and have good responce times to the enviorment. Of course the Ghost house was auwsome as ever. Did you know if you play Mario Kart on a smaller television, in the rainbow road ( from my knowledge ) will have fewer thump whomps on screen. Theirfore the game is slightly easier on smaller televisions. This of course was the RF televisions.

About Double Dash, I have not yet picked it up. I have allways wanted to get Warpipe to work with it, That seems to be the only value of the game itself, nowadays unless you have people in the area to play with. However it seemed kinda primitive to have two people riding one kart. Koopa beach was the best level from a Mario Kart game, was that in the N64 game?

However Mario racing game was also on the famicom I was reading.
Nowadays Mario anything looks silly to me, I miss all of the games, and Yoshi's Island, and Mario 3 have a special place in my heart, but otherwise I do not miss Mario series, along with Pokemon. Two of the biggest waste of times in my life. I could have been playing a dreamcast all this time.
