Title: Shooting watch
Post by: soop on April 15, 2012, 01:51:42 AM
I got my Shooting Watch the other day (thanks Samurai!) and it's everything I hoped it would be. I took it out on Friday, and my friends were all trying to out-do each other for the high score and trying different techniques. It's perfect for people who don't normally play games too, because it's just pressing buttons!

It's going with me everywhere from now on, in its adopted Gameboy Micro pouch!

(http://junk.tg-16.com/images/cooks_transb.gif) Cook wishes more watches incorporated shooting in them.

LMAO! I think the first secret is unlocked after acheiving over 100, but I'm not sure.

ZING! Just found this: http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8977395

Took me long enough to figure out the Japanese to set the time...

Yeah, the thing looks pretty sweet! It took a lot of willpower not to crack the thing open and give it a shot (or shots?) before I sent it to you, but I wanted you to have a brand new Shooting Watch. It's on my want list now!!

On a related note before I started collecting PCE stuff I passed on a PC Engine GT signed by the master Takahashi Meijin himself. Crap!!

I even kept the tab you pull out to connect the battery - this thing is staying as complete as possible!

Well that goes without saying... I have kept mine and it definitely is staying complete.

How much do those things sell for nowadays...?

Is there much details anywhere on when they were originally given out...?

I really want one of these but only ones I can find are expensive on ebay like $100+. I haven't had any luck looking on YJA for one. What is a good price?

You can get them on YJA for a reasonable price. They usually go for around $50, but if you keep looking you can find one cheaper than that. Try searching for シューティングウォッチ

Aha that's what I was looking for I couldn't figure out what to put in the search bar. Finding games is way easier or you can just browse by system.

Why do they even go for that high on YJA if you still can get em in shops for below 2000? crazy.

there were even 3 versions in the 80s. They sold about 1 million pcs. the 2nd one (pro) was deticated to the pce since it had a I・II・SELECT・RUN button layout (thats the one I have as an original).

couldn't find exact dates of releases.

so there were different replikas for the 2006, 2007 & 2008 tournaments made (they also including the mkII pce overlay as an additional sticker), and all made in china (the originals were made in japan).

there were also other form factors made over the years just as the famicom pad, super famicom pad etc. but they are seeming to be much less attractive. FC pad was cool tho.

and then there were the mini shuwotchi (capsule shuwotchi) from the gashapons by yujin, came in i believe 3 different styles (original, fc, and star soldier).

the additional games can be unlocked by resching 62 (cycle game) resp. 160 (slot game) pushes ( ->the legenday score by TM).

You can get them in shops for 2,000 yen? I've never seen one, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Where did you see them?

Never heard of that shop before. Do they have a website? Anywhere I look all I can find them for is around 4,000-5,000 yen...

Yeah I didn't see any shooting watches there, but I'm sure you can find some great deals in Akiba! Unfortunately I live in Kansai, but I will be in Tokyo next week. If I have time I might check it out.

someone should add the shooting watch to the high scores thread. If nobody does I will when I get one.

Man... my friend has deformed the edge of the buttons with his "technique". He got 173 by pinching his nails together and rubbing them over the two buttons, but I just looked, and it's chipped away at the edge of the buttons.

I don't know whether to feel happy it's being played or angry it's getting f*cked already.

Just play, or teach your friends to play it the right way, and it will last forever.

Yeah, that's the rule now. Takahashi Meijin's technique or nothing. It would be nice if I could reset this ridiculously high score too. It's very disappointing when I get around 100, when it used to feel pretty good.

I want some of those sweat bands form the contest a few years ago...

Just looking at a Takahashi video he has got a strange technique...

I always used to use both thumbs and rock the unit between both palms... can;t remember how many I used to get know but I am going to have to get mine out and give it another go.

Is there a High Score thread anywhere yet...?

No, this is the only right technique. using more than one finger, buttons, utilities etc. is cheated.

Post by: rcantor77 on April 19, 2012, 08:54:36 AM
Yeah I know it is the only technique to use and when you start trying it you realise how fekking good 16/sec actually is.. although people have done 180 since it was with two fingers.

For those who don't have a Shooting Watch to play, here is Hudson's Flash Watch online...

(http://www.dothehudson.net/jp/images/scr/ms_170_shooting-watch_tw.jpg) (http://www.dothehudson.net/jp/gadget/swtw/swtw.swf?wmode=transparent&fullscreen=true)

At the moment all I can muster is 85 with one finger and 105 with two... enjoy!

OK I went to retro Friends in Akihabara yesterday and asked for a Shooting Watch as there weren't any out in the store. The lady pulled one out from behind the counter and had to call to confirm the price, and that ended up being 3,800 yen. Mentioned that's higher then I heard and she said something about selling them on auctions. So they must have figured out the market price for these. At 1680 I was planning to buy her out and hook up some of you guys! Great store though and picked up some good games!

yeah, seems like that way :( sorry for the miss information, the last one I bought there was around 2010, and back then it was indeed 1680.

damn, ex-hudson could make a little fortune from these alone, if they would make a last run and sell worldwide :)
