Holy Crap is this game hard!! I decided to finally go thru it.
THANK god for Save States on Magic Engine, 'cause without it, I'm sure I would never be able to go through it.
I just got through zone 7 I think.
anybody else play through this....proabably a stupid question.
I got it free with my duo back in '93, and never really tried to get through it.
-
Huh...really?
Well, since you asked, I've gone through Keith Courage dozens of times; especially when I was younger and couldn't afford new games. By brother and had competitions to see who could get through it by dying the least. Eventually, we could both get through it without dying once, and pretty much stopped playing it.

The platforming sections (in the Nova Suit) get to be tricky later, I'll give you that... but they aren't too hard. I remember hopping like a rabbit through a lot of the areas (find the shortest / easiest way to get to the end, you don't have to stop and kill all the re-spawning enemies).
Unfortunately, there's a glitch in Keith Courage that allow you to beat all the bosses pretty easilly. Full-turbo slash + jump (when appropriate) and you cream most bosses. This game should have made the boss encounters more memorable!
If you want a tough game, try JJ & Jeff. The last level or two require mad platforming skills and makes KC look like cake :)
Adventure Island on NES is as tough as JJ & Jeff, IMO. Both great games :)

I LOVE KEITH COURAGE! It's totally an underrated game and when you beat it for the first time, you feel like a true man! Very awesome game!
-
I love that boss music. I can listen to it 20 times in a row and never get sick of it.
-
I love the designs of the boss room. I never gave much thought to the boss music, but you made me hungry to listen to it. I can now see how that would be an addicting song.
-
Yea,its one of the first TG titles I beat, but it was never hard to me.I blew through it in a week.

Here's a wav of the boss music.
With a wav editor, I like transposing it in different note patterns. Doing that adds to the addictiveness.

man, I haven't heard that in ages. I totally dig it! The music is even better when you're in the boss chamber, because it fits the atmosphere perfectly. I suggest folks beef up the bass -- then this track is even more killer.
By the way, one of the bosses was called "Mr. Roboto" in the U.S. manual (the one who is like a flying Mr. Peanut, IIRC) ... it seems someone at NEC was a fan of STYX, baby. Awesome.

Y'all know Keith Courage is a bastardized game based on an anime right?

Yep, Wataru. Keith Courage America kicks Watru Japan's ass though :D , with the comic explaining the story and all, hehe.
Thanks for the wav of the boss song. I'll be listening to this for awhile!

anyone has the wav or mp3 for download? when i visit the page it simply shows a real audio player and that stuff messes with my sound card majorly.

Played this on console and PC Engine. Really tough platformer. The last few areas had me pulling my hair in frustration.

Of course, Mahou Choujin Wataru. A kids action show that ran on Bandai channel in Japan in the late 80's and had a number of games spawned after it. Unfortunately, Bandai could've used the opportunity to release the Wataru anime in the U.S. to coincide with the TurboGrafx 16 launch and to promote it based on the video game. Sadly, it was never considered and Wataru may never get to see the light of day again.
Bandai doesn't like to go after old licenses. :(
Here is a link to the actual BANDAI channel page that sports the memory of this fun show: MAHOU CHOUJIN WATARU (http://www.b-ch.com/cgi-bin/contents/ttl/det.cgi?ttl_c=149)
Oh, and I don't use save states for Keith Courage. I just used the continue option. Save states are for games with passwords.
-
I just learned that Wataru has a couple games on the Famicom also.
-
Hence why I say "number of games released". I didn't put a specific value in.
-
Ah....Keith Courage....
One of those games that didn't leave a positive impression on me. Pretty generic platformer that got old quick when I played it.
