Title: (Good) Writer wanted for PC Engine article (nothing to do with me)
Post by: sunteam_paul on April 23, 2012, 06:39:59 AM
Pixel Nation Magazine (http://www.pixel-nation.co.uk/) is interested in an article on the PCE. I've been asked about writing something but I can't guarantee I have the time to commit and the deadline is the end of May.

If you know your stuff and are confident you can write something decent (I'm guess previous examples of things you've written may be a good idea), let me know and I'll put you in touch with them.

What kind of material are we looking for here.  Like, a reflection back on how fun the PCE is, or something current?

Unspecified, but I would guess an introduction to the machine and its games is probably the kind of thing, as it would be the first PCE related article in the mag.

oh.  I am sure someone else could write something better.   I tend to get a bit fanboyish and talk up games that everyone else thinks are crapass.

Like Nat maybe.  He's good at writing shit.

I'd do it if it were about the current influx of homebrew and releases both game/tool related..

and the overall improvement of the development scene.

Well, I wrote a more outline-style article for Racketboy back in 2007. He edited it a bit (sometimes for better, sometimes not) before posting it, but it's still pretty spot on. I'm relatively certain I kept the number of factual errors fairly low. Were I to write it again I'd still have to follow the outline style for his site, but I'd adjust my writing style a hair.

I could maybe cough up something if you think that example is a fair one.

Interesting publication. Has anyone read the first issue of Pixel Nation?

I wouldn't mind throwing my hat into the ring.

Here are some samples of my writing style.

Dai Sen Pu:  http://www.defunctgames.com/review/946/dai-sen-pu
Dragon Egg:  http://www.defunctgames.com/review/891/dragon-egg
Neutopis:  http://www.defunctgames.com/review/965/neutopia

If this constitutes good writing, please consider my candidacy.

Hullo! I'm involved with PN and recently been in talks with Paul about an article, sadly like he said earlier he doesn't have the time. We are looking for something special, a decent sized history of the system touching upon the games, call it a beginners intro to the PCEngine/TG. Basically looking for someone who can write well and go into some detail.

If anyone is interested then please drop me a PM.

If anyone wants to ask about PN1 then I'm happy to answer any questions :) We launched just under a month ago and the aim is to offer a retro book every quarter. Packed full of articles and interviews hopefully touching upon areas to appeal to all, pleased to say its been a great success so far.

I think I've watched you on youtube!  Do you have a youtube account under Lorfarius also?

I can write some stuff for you, including interview nonsense if you want about PCE homebrew happenings.  If you time it right, I'll also have footage/pics from a convention this June.   I suspect any future interviews about PCE homebrew won't be as sour-toned as the last one.  Things have improved since then, fairly drastically.

If you want game-specific-talk, I'm your guy to talk up how great all the underdog games are for the PCE... :)

Quite right.  Perhaps I had the old Intellivision B-17 Bomber on the brain when I wrote it.  Thnx.

Ark, if you want to use any of our pics and footage of MGC's little Turbofest (plus the homebrew section)  let me know. :)

Also, if anyone can find Runinruder he would be a great candidate too. He's been MIA lately unfortunately. Here is his website:

So, basically, we all want a piece of the action, but there's a looming deadline and our audition pieces are all over the map. Go Team Turbo!

I'll form right arm. That's the one that wields the sword.

That is the rub. I would guess an introductory/overview piece would be appropriate. Probably a good excuse to introduce folks to a few of the higher-profile titles that defined the system, dispel a few myths and assumptions about the console, and talk about the role of the system in the grand scheme of gaming. One potential problem, however, is that this is a UK zine. It is quite relevant to talk about the PCE in Japan, but the TG-16 in the US may be less relevant, and for those of us who are US residents, some research may be required to determine how the system panned out in the UK. I'm sure the first-hand experience of a resident of the UK at the time the system came out would be invaluable.

Considering there wasn't an actual UK release really other than the f*cked up PAL TurboGrafx, and it's assumed that you are talking PC-Engine (as in, importation), I don't think that is going to be a problem.

Well, the PAL TurboGrafx deserves a mention, obviously.

We are based in the UK but aren't focusing on just this country as its meant to have something for everyone, it isn't just a UK zine :) The first issue has been written from people across the globe and we are trying to cover as much as possible across...well everything.

I'd love to help out, but I don't consider myself much of a writer and don't know as much about the PCE as I'd like.

Bit of a hectic week, all of the articles for PN3 are in (the PCE article looks fantastic!) and we are well under way with the design work.  Still amazed we have made it to a 3rd issue and I'm already starting to look beyond it for PN4!

Wouldn't be doing it if wasn't for you lot so thanks again everyone  :D
