Post by: Nando on May 01, 2012, 05:19:27 AM
I have about 40 1:24 scale cars, from AutoArt and other similar brands

Old toys, not so much any more but I had/have some older GI Joes, He-Man, Transformer stuff.

got a few of  Katsuya terada's books and a frame cloth print that came with his Cover girls art books.

Vinyl: House, DnB, mostly.

I only really collect PCE, but I kind of look out for gameboys.  Not the rare expensive ones, but I have fun trying to get every basic colour on the cheap.  Aside from that, I want to have a decent game library.

i only have another hobby which is VW busses,....this uses most of my free money. mostly collect stickers and use them, also Camaro hot wheels if i see a good one. i used to collect comics, but with two kids and a wife i support , i cant justify tying up my money on stuff the kids cant eat. my tg16 games money is from parts sales and beer money i did not use.

Laserdisc, records, plastic models (cars, Gundam, etc), other game systems, Saturn, Cube, Wonderswan, Neo Geo Pocket, others.

Lately I seem to keep buying stereo gear...not sure if this is a thing yet.

All sorts of retro game systems, the NES being the oldest. Tabletop RPG books and dice. Books about Japanese society, culture, and history. 2 manga series (and that's it).

Games of all types:
console games (both retro an current-gen though lately it's been 90% retro and 10% current)
PC games
RPGs
wargames (anything with cool minis - mostly because I enjoy painting rather than playing them)
tabletop board games (particularly the Euro and co-op stuff)
card games (stuff like Fluxx, Quiddler, Once Upon a Time, not CCGs like Magic - yet)

But my rate of collecting is usually pretty slow.  I also support a family, so I don't pick up much very often, though a 2nd & Charles (http://2ndandcharles.com/) recently opened up in town and they've taken a bigger chunk of my finances than they probably should.

Oh, I also pick up cool pop-up books from time to time.  Robert Sabuda is a paper wizard.  :P

I also collect crap for tabletop gaming, I guess.  If that's considered collecting.

Theyre required to play the games though, so does that count?

Besides games for other systems (and indeed systems themselves), I mostly collect anime & manga-related things. Since sometime last year I've started to buy anime on LaserDisc (just bought some more in fact ) and I've gathered a small collection of artbooks that I hope will grow over time. Other than that there's the usual "tech" I guess - computers and the like. A friend got me into minidiscs, so I own two portable recorders now.

Though being a weeaboo nut, I don't have many figures or model kits and the like. I'm having a hard time to justify the cost vs satisfaction I guess. It's not like there isn't figures out there I want but not for the prices they are going for.
I must say it's fun to see other people here gathering LDs as well.

Arkhan, that depends. If you just have a bunch of books on a couple systems and you use them all, maybe, maybe not. If you exhaustively collect all the books of a particular system or two, definitely. If you, like me, pick up just about anything that looks interesting that you can afford at the time, regardless of whether you think you're likely to play it or not, I'd say probably.

That's pretty much how I am with RPG stuff.  I pick it up mainly cause it's fun to read and tinker with (I like going through the character creation process when I get a new RPG - some are a lot of fun.  I'm looking at you T.M.N.T.)  I used to play D&D 4e through a meetup.com group locally, but stopped going because I never knew who was going to show up.  Playing with a bunch of random strangers doesn't lend itself well to roleplaying, imo.

Besides video games, I collect TMNT and Elm Street stuff. But that doesn't stop me from picking up other things from my childhood. I've got a shelf of Puppet Master Replicas and also some comic books. It gets pretty expensive but you gotta be smart about it.

Mainly just videogames.  Sega stuff is my main focus with PC Engine being the next big system I like to play on.  I also collect a lot of Working Design memorabilia.  If I find Nintendo stuff cheap I'll jump on it as well, but I'm not as big a fan.

I do collect coins as well a bit, but they are a bit pricy right now with commodities being as high as they are.

I collect anything related to the D&D Greyhawk setting. Also CD's from a few of my favorite bands (Nick Cave, Cranes, UK Subs). I've gone out of my way to pick up almost all of the RPGs on the NES, but I wouldn't call myself a "collector" because I haven't put much effort into it and I don't care about boxes. I would like to get some of the 3rd party hint books though.

I used to collect comic books, also laserdiscs. However, as space to store things has become an issue for me, I buy less and less stuff. I do buy DVDs, HD-DVDs and Blu-Rays, but only "collect" particular series of movies, TV shows and such.

Beside video games&anime well some times and it used to be manga to.If any thing that's it,though one of these days maybe transformers.Given how much hasbro/takara has been doing reissue of G1's transformers beside the masterpiece editions.

As for movies&tv shows on dvd/bluray not so much lately since space is becoming a problem.

... arcade games.
I obtain arcade machines, mostly late 80's and 90's (think Street Fighter 2, Final Fight, Neo-Geo). Love the Japanese style "candy" cabs. I've got 13 in my garage ATM, a couple of WIPs. I love to fix up and repair them since they are simple to work on. I take them to conventions and tournaments in the southeast.

I'm looking at you T.M.N.T.
Blast from the past! I did some campaigns with those (Palladium, right?). I got bored of the TSR stuff, always looked to alternate pen-n-paper RPG's plus TMNT hype was in full effect back then.

Did stamps and model airplanes in my youth, never got TOO into them but I tried. Once NES was in my house, it was all video games from then on out.

Yep, it's from Palladium.  I remember back in High School a buddy of mine had a bunch of Palladium books, including Robotech, and I always wanted to somehow put together a campaign that integrated the two, but never got around to it.  The actual game mechanics for TMNT are more complicated than they need to be, but the character creation process is a blast since it's so random.  You come up with the strangest characters.  It reminds me a bit of the new Gamma World (the only version of Gamma World I've looked into).

90% of what I collect lately is video game related.  I used to collect other stuff, and I still have this stuff, but add less to my collections now.

- DVDs - I amassed about 250 horror DVDs, but now with the transition to digital and bluray, i stopped with getting so many movies.  I still pick up a movie or two a month, but far less than I used to.

- Horror movie memorabilia - I have a lot of signed horror movie posters.

- Sports cards and Garbage Pail Kids - Still pick these up, but far less frequently.

- Action Figures - I have mostly Street Fighter, Full Moon, and comic book figures.

My biggest hobby outside of gaming is watching baseball.  I try to get to a bunch of games all over the country each year, but that doesn't typically involve collecting anything but a souveneir or two.

Most certainly, though it does kinda make for a nice tabletop strategy game. It's just a really stinky role-playing game.

I have to disagree with you here. There's still some good stuff out there. My understanding is that GURPS 4th ed is pretty good. Also, Castles and Crusades and a lot of free retro-clones are pretty good. Savage Worlds is pretty interesting, too. The system I like most to collect for, however, is an older one. I like Fuzion, by R. Talsorian and Hero Games. There were some anime sourcebooks that were fantastic (Bubblegum Crisis is one of the best).

Yeah, I enjoyed playing it as a strategy game, and I think it has the potential for good role-playing, but you'd need to find an experienced Dungeon Master and players because the rulebooks don't offer much in the way of actual roleplaying technique.  I woulnd't be opposed to playing it more in the future, but I'd much rather play D&D BECMI or one of its clones like Castles and Crusades.

I used to collect GI Joe & Star Wars stuff from 10+ years ago.  I collected a bunch of the newer He-man figures, including King Hssss & the snake men, though, the latest stuff is just too expensive, so, I don't collect those anymore.  There's also various game & anime characters I collected.  Got a nice Vash & Wolfwood, some Mega Man figures, some Samurai Showdown.

I still collect Transformers, basically everything released in stores(no convention stuff) starting from Beast Wars on up.  Around when the first movie came out though, my collecting settled down.  I have a good majority of the first movie figures....but, kind of don't care about them.  I did collect all the TF Animated figures.  That's the last major line I got.  Now I just get the occasional Classics/Generations to have my G1 characters all together, as well as the Masterpiece figures(including Megs).  Though, I don't buy repaints of MP figures, & probably won't get the new release of MP Prime with the trailer, etc.  I get tempted to get some of the Transformer Prime figures, some of them are pretty nice looking, but, I'm just at a point where financially & physically(as in, the space I can fit these figures in) I can't do it anymore.

I do like to pick up alot of anime, old US cartoons(Pac-man, M.A.S.K, Wheelie & the Chopper Bunch, Darkwing Duck, the original TMNT, etc.), & generally any Marvel & DC cartoon series & movie on DVD or Blu Ray(Batman Animated Series, Justice League, Wolverine & the X-men, the recent Avengers cartoon, etc.).  I've been replacing alot of DVD stuff where possible with Blu Ray editions to save space.  For instance, my DBZ movies on DVD, are 2 DBZ movies on Blu Ray(except Broly is all 3 Broly movies).  I also ofcoarse get all series season set of the various Transformers shows.

TurboGrafx/PC Engine systems and games, Neo-Geo MVS carts, and the occasional Transformers figure if I have a large desire for it. Also have a small collection of Ultima games that I couldn't part with if I had too.

Used to have 500+ TFs, but sold a good majority of them though as finance, family, and space constraints makes it very hard to keep up a large collection. Most of my figures are rotting away in tupperware totes now due to lack of display room. I personally feel that if you can't display your collection, (as in see, touch, show to others) what's the point of having them. Seems like a waste to me. Used some of the cash from sold figures to increase my Turbo/PCE game collection which is sitting pretty on a CD/DVD shelf for all my world to see.  The wife just gives me the  look when I stand staring and drooling at my games.

Yup, I hear ya.  Let's see, the TF's I have boxed up are the entire Beast Wars collection, entire Beast Machines, entire Robots in Disguise(RID, including the Korean release of Fortess Maximus), entire Armada colletion, & basically every minicon & mini figure in general from the various Classics/Generations/etc. series.

What I do have out, is the entire Beast Wars Neo, Animated, Generations/Classics(deluxe sized & up, let's call it G1 2.0), Engergon, Cybertron, first movie, die cast War Within stuff, most of Robot Heroes, all of Alternators(minus Rumble, & the 2nd Ravage), Masterpiece(including Megs, but no repaints), all the G1 re-issues including some Jp only stuff like Sixshot, & tons of various Universe, Beast Wars 2nd, Machine Wars, Beast Wars (the new molds & the re-issues), along with Unicron & Primus battling it out.

Hahhahahahaha.

I don't "collect"; I prefer to think of it as my library (actively used).

I have a massive music library with vinyl, CD's and cassettes. Yes, cassettes. I have a lot of unique stuff on cassette, so I can't just throw them away, even if they are the least likely to survive (they have been stored in some pretty humid locations, sadly, and far more fragile than they were 20 years ago).

I used to have 8-tracks (ha!) because my first car had an 8-track player (and I subsequently grabbed home stereo components, but the hardware broke frequently and was noisy. It was definitely fun as a novelty... but not too reliable.

I have NES, Famicom, SMS, Genesis, SegaCD, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Wii, PS2, XBOX, SNES, 3DO, 2600, Gameboy, Lynx, GameGear, GBA...

I used to have old computer stuff (Apple II, C64, PC DOS) but the disks and drives were getting finicky and I didn't have room to use them.

I love to read and have tons of books. All sorts. I have a tons of magazines, too, but, sadly, I have donated/lost a lot of stuff over the years (a nearly complete collection of 1980-1989 BYTE from my dad...which I re-read in the early 90's and then tossed.)

I love movies, but, thankfully, I (mostly) stopped buying DVD's many years ago. I have tons of hard-to-find stuff on VHS that I gotta let go of, but I keep convincing myself that I'll make a transfer to digital...and then I'll realize that this is a foolish endeavor. I don't have many LaserDiscs (they are a novelty for me)...
