So I recently discovered the game via screen shots and was wondering if anyone has played it. It looks REALLY good! and the game play seems similar to Kiki Kai Kai and Lengend of Valkyrie.
Have any of you played it? is it worth hunting down?

I have it. If you are at all interested in it after seeing screen shots or videos than you absolutely want it in your collection. Its fun and funny, it has good graphics, gaijin protection is low.

It's cute as a button and tons of fun (even with the bitchy jumps required), though it's not very hard (except for the stiff jumps). I'd definitely say it's worth getting if the price is right.

What would be a decent price for it? Saw one on evilBayz for $35 or so. I'm pretty sure I will want to add that one to my collection. Something about it totally grabbed me by the Otaku :D

It is an excellent game. One of my favorites on the PCE. 35$ seems fair. I paid 35$ for mine a few years back.
It's got some great music too.
It's a spinoff of the Xak series, meant to be cutesy and fun. Check out the MSX2 version as well. It was translated to english, and it is fanf*ckingtastic.

I've never seen this one, it looks pretty awesome though! Yeah from videos I've watched it looks like your kikikaikai/valkyrie comparison is spot on. There's just soooo many games on PCE you never hear about.

youll need system roms. I can email you a set of MSX2+ system roms, or you can try trackin em down.
Its like finding a bios for sega CD.

The guy with 700 PCE games ( :mrgreen: ) also says that Fray Xak Gaiden is a very funny game. You don't need japanese to get through it but it still useful to enjoy the funny dialogues.
The only problem is the stiff controls, some platform parts are quite difficult because of that.

It is basically an ancient time version of that other shooter game, but instead of being a Shrine madien, like Sakura, you are a young sorcerous with powers. The gameplay is basically the same as the following
Moon Light Lady PCE CD
Pockey and Rocky PCE Hu-card
Another arcade game that is simular to Kiki KaiKai

So I've been emulating the gaming to test it out before buying it. Still haven't gotten too far, the biggest issue for sure is the controlls. What a shame!
It reminded me of twinkle tale a bit but the biggest flaw on it is that the character has no diagonal walk AT ALL! The pace is a bit slower so one can sorta overcome that, but REALLY GUYS? an awesome looking game killed by diagonals..tsk, tsk, tsk.
Still, I think I'm gonna hunt it down. Think of it as an obstacle to overcome. Kinda like Rockman not being able to crouch or shoot up, or Michael Keatons batman not being able to look up or sideways without moving his whole body.

Ok I didn't play far into it and see I get better weapons......
The log jump part is a bitch though, I had to turn the volume off cause I got tired of hearing Fray scream as she jumped into the pit over and over and over and over and over

I am eagerly awaiting this, it sounds entertaining. I always though the Duos were great because you didn't need system cards, but I'm missing out on all the cool notification screens!

Fray? That is a shooter, simular to kiki KaiKai. The game is alright, because
of the cut scenes, otherwise it plays like Moon Light lady but you move on to area, after area. It is basically a magical girl type series.

Fray MSX is better than all of the kkiedkikaidkaikaikaiaaais, and even the PCE Fray!
The PCE Fray has more colors/smoother controls/better boobage, but the story isn't presented quite as good, IMO.
They both rule though.

This is a great one. Once you get the controls down its highly enjoyable. The towns aren't too bad to figure out either without knowing japanese.

One of my favorite parts is whenever you enter houses and she says Hello or whatever
I walked in and out of houses for like 5 minutes laughing my ass off. The funny PSG music makes it even better.

I've owned this game for a few years. Played it once when I got it and then shelved it. This thread prompted me to play it again. Great game for sure, but a few things annoy me:
-The music. It kind of sucks, especially the PSG stuff. The town music sounds broken/out of tune.
-The voices. Why can I not skip them? They really break up the flow and pacing of the game especially when fighting the second boss. If I can't skip them, I want an option to completely turn them off. I don't need to hear a high-pitched cute anime voice every time I enter a door while the game freezes and loads the voice.
Overall, I think this game would be better on HuCard because the pacing would be improved without the voices. That wouldn't fix the bad music, though.

That's a pretty darn good translation, too. It reads well and has all the same atmosphere and attitude of the Japanese. Sure, it's always easier with just a couple lines than more material, but I still think it was good translating work.

I'm just happy there wasn't any kanji in there :-" Think I have forgotten most of them by now. There's a reason I haven't offered to help with any of the translation work that goes around here O:)

Yeah, it's a good thing Sadler did that, because my picture isn't nearly as good.
I can't find either of them anyway. They might be on one of my various flash drives. I'll try and find them today, because we're still missing the Fray one for when your BRAM is full.
Also: The MSX version has the better music. It's Micro Cabin FM music. That stuff is never bad.
