is it true that "backup booster1" works as an AV booster AND a battery backup, and that backup "booster2" omits the AV booster, but still acts as a battery backup unit?
I got a BB2 bundled in with my Coregrafx system, and the seller was convinced it had the built-in AV booster, yet I found a website ( http://www.sdk-team.com/collection_nec_pce.htm ) that says it was only BB1 that had that.
?
Is this link above the definitive source?
help.
Thanks.

Hmmm, I think Aaron used to have this documented here at pcenginefx ... he might know.
Anyway, let's assume it's true. If BB1 lacks A/V, it really only affects folks who have the original white PC-Engine (which had RF output only).
CoreGrafx models had A/V output (on right-hand side, but you need a special A/V cable).
So you should be fine. I guess BB2 was for original PCE (white) consoles, since it would be redundant on the later models.
Hopefully, other folks can verify this :)
EDIT: Here's a definitive page:

I don't know Japanese, unfortunately.

Ah, I have the console sat on my desk at work here right now 8)
I feel 12 years old again! :)
Yeah, luckily it came with the correct AV lead (AV>Composite) and I have a scart adapter which I can plug the composite phonos into.
Thanks for your post Steve.
Will ask a japanese friend of mine if she can translate
:D

The Back-Up Boosters 1&2 both combine an AV Booster + a Ten no Koe 2 (back-up unit). The main difference is that the BB1 requires an R6 (AA) battery, while the BB2 has an internal NiCad one.
