Title: Completing every turbo game 91/144 FAILED
Post by: Lilgrafx on May 21, 2012, 03:41:25 PM
RULES 1) Beat the game on least normal difficulty 2) No cheats 3) PCE games are allowed if there are not drastically different from there US counter part 4) Screen shots are not required, but they are appreciated Lets do it!!!
That's a cool idea. Who's going to get stuck with night creatures and all the other dreck? :) but I'd be down for this
I was thinking the same thing all those shitty games like Yo Bro, Deep Blue, and Dark Wing Duck.

It might be fun to watch others attempt to complete every game, but I probably wouldn't participate. I just don't have that kind of time these days. :) Also, there is already a similar thread here, though it's not limited to one year: http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=6688.0

My thoughts weren't to have people sign up to play games, but just comment as you complete a game and we'd mark it of the list.
just collect all the clears on www.pcedaisakusen.net (http://www.pcedaisakusen.net/) :)
Yeah I have an account there, I just thought it would be fun to see if we could tackle them all within a year.

and this topic just hit rock bottom. It would be nice and all, but I doubt people will take the time to do this. It may work for the first month or so, but after that, it'll get buried with other topics.

It would be feasible on the Turbografx, but on the Snes? That would be almost 2 games a day!

OK I see now :)
I just thought of extract all the clears out of PCEDAI, post em here into a separate thread (first post), and use them as a starter. then add any new clears. but yeah, that would be cheating..hehe.

I think this could be a lot of fun. We could set up an acct on pcedai called pcefx challenge and list all the us games as owned and just clear them as we go then mark on the bottem in the cmments who cleared it. That way everyone can see what's still open. I am interested in this and I can help organizing it. I like stuff like this that gets people playing their games. Even if people like pce stuff better it doesn't matter if they want to play the pce version really

Yes i agree this sounds fun until we get to Falcon, Gunboat, Yo Bro lol. 3 day weekend coming up we should start this weekend. The only draw back is some of us dont have the time or have kids and we gotta spend time with them this weekend lol. Ill give it a go tho. Its always fun to try.

i dont think people should be assigned with any games, it should be free for all untill it gets towards the end then people could volunteer to take on the challenge for tougher games

I think if it were a previous clear, it doesn't count. You should have to beat the game fresh, as of the start date of us doing this.
Great idea, I'd love to get in on this!
Arkhan, I have beaten plenty of shitty games just to say I did it. Good job with Falcon, now you just need to do it again.

or how about the system and arcade cards itself? and for some thrill factor, we could even consider to add the tennokoe bank as well.

I have always wanted to try my hand at playing thru the TG games i never owned as a kid. Thinking maybe we take a pic of the screen after we beat the game to prove it. Cause anyone of us can say I BEAT 30 OVER THE WEEKEND LOL.

Referring back to the OP it sounds like something cool for the uber Turbo fans out there. Those that must own all things that ever came out on TG-16. I however wouldn't be interested. There's just too many great games out there across multiple platforms (including my beloved TG-16 w/CD) to make myself play games that either aren't good or that I'm really not interested in.
But hats off to those that go for it!
Title: Re: Completing every US turbo game

well if we do this we need an official thread that is separate from this one that is strictly what games are open and whos is playing/cleared what game

Just beat R-Type, Ahhhhh felt good. took a few pics will post them later. Tired now lol, R-Type is just as BRUTAL as i remembered as a kid.
Congrats! I've never beat it, and I'm pretty sure I never will. :) I remember a roommate of mine back in the late 90's coming into my room every night for weeks to play R-Type and he got really good, and HE never beat it. That's quite an accomplishment.

You can beat some of the sports games, I left world court tennis and final lap twin unmarked. I thought the rest of the sports, pinball, and bikini games were unbeatable.

World Class Baseball is beatable, You beat every team then if I'm not mistaken you play a all-star team that's so good you can't afford to make any mistakes.

I think all of the sports titles have tournament modes that are beatable, the pinball games end when the scores are maxed out, and King of Casino ends when you collect enough monies. That's not to say that those games will be easy to beat (or enjoyable), but it definitely can be done.
P.S. - You're missing Insanity.... perhaps intentionally to spite Ark.
P.P.S. - Where's the screenies, peeps?

Yea I'm thinking leave the sports games marked 'possible' as most of them have tournaments/playoff systems (JOHN MADDEN!!) and they have endings. I'll try my hand at a few of these!!

Man you guys are cranking these out! I'd like to contribute, but work is killing me right now (I'm on my 4th back-to-back 14 hour day) and it's likely going to continue through the weekend. Hopefully by Monday nobody has beaten Riot Zone because I've been meaning to play through that one again and this is a good incentive. :) The reason I asked earlier about playing PCE versions is I have Crest of Wolf rather than Riot Zone. It seems to be identical, even down to the goofy names.

If you can go it to options and up the number of lifes I'd allow it, but if you have to put in a code I'm going to say no. Is the game really that hard?

I thought I'd try to beat Space Harrier. That didn't work out very well. I keep getting stuck around level 6 or 7 (out of 18). :) I'm guessing we can't use the cheat to allow for continues (even though the continue system let's you continue from only the 5th and 12th levels). I'd love to see a playthrough of someone beating this without continuing. It gets crazy! I love the Wish Dragon bonus levels, even though they seem pretty much pointless.

Inspired by you guys I sat down this morning to beat Image Fight once and for all, despite it not being on this list. Only played until stage 2 until today, Blazed through a few of the few earlier levels and after several dozen continues managed to beat the final boss ...only to come up 5% short for the mission requirements and get thrown into the bullshit Penalty Stage. Came close to clearing that until I finally had enough. Still don't understand why I scored so low on the final stage, I killed almost everything despite being stuck in a really bad spot with no power ups. You win this time Image Fight, but I'll be back!!

I haven't read the thread for fear of spoilers, but I beat crest of wolf yesterday. I can post pics if needed, but it's not a hard game to beat anyway. Tried Golden Axe too, and turned it off in disgust at the final (I think) stage.
also, death=adder is made of snakes.

Do Virtual Console games count? I don't have the HuCard for Dragon's Curse, but I do have it on the VC, and I wouldn't mind playing through it again. Same goes for Neutopia (which I don't think has been marked off yet, but I may wrong there).

Cyber Core Complete. I really like this game, it's pretty easy until the last level with those little blue things that home in on you.
Best me to it! Cyber Core is a pretty cool shooter in my opinion. Love how your ship transforms as you upgrade!!
Yeah I though that was really cool too, the only problem with it is when you're fully powered up that bastard is too big to weave through the bullets.
Yeah but I kind of like that aspect as well. You are fully powered but you have a slight disadvantage as well. It's a rare gameplay element in shooters, and I can only think of a couple examples of other games that employ something similar.

That's true and when you are fully powered up you have a shield for 3 hits, which balances out your size.

Once we finish this list...we should do it again and see how few days it takes to clear out the list completely. We could set a start date (7/1 or 8/1 or something) and stick to it.
I think we'd have to put some requirements as proof though...like including a picture + date visible somewhere in the pic (like some FS forums require as proof). Might be kind of a hassle, but it'd be fun to see just how quickly the forum can clear every US title.
Thanks, as a kid and till this day ive always thought. If you need a cheat to beat a game then your not a true gamer. Cheats take the fun away from the way games was ment to be played.
Slow motion is cheating. I suck at shooters and have beaten R-Type with slow-motion. It's cheating.

I don't feel slow motion is cheating. Its built on the 1st party controller and not a madcatz 3rd party contrller its not cheating. Just like we all use turbo on the Nec controllers but not the Nes ones.
Title: Re: Completing every turbo game 53/143

If you have to input a code or say a certain UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START then that's cheating. Using what's giving to you to use on a controller is fair game.

So there are only 143 U.S turbo games?
Totally man! It was like RC Pro-Am for the NES, but better. Most people had Bomberman house parties back in those days...I had Motoroader parties! 5 buddies battling it out for road surpremecy, so damn fun. The game was way more balanced then the sequels too. HI-TURBO FTW

Shockman complete! got this game about a week ago and the last level had been giving me fits for awhile, happy to put this one in the books. Seems like people don't talk about this game very much. it's definitively not one of the top sidescrollers on the turbo, but a good game none the less.
I'm sorry if this has been addressed in an earlier post, and I was just to lazy to search through them, but how do you define beating a sports game?
I'm gonna say win the tournement/season. If it's final Lap Twin or World Court Tennis beat quest mode.

Since everyone is cooperatively beating all of the games, is it okay for us to cooperatively beat a single game?
I started playing Boxy Boy last night and after a couple levels that I spent a lot of time on, I started wondering if I would get to a point where I get stuck and give up. Since the game uses a password system, we could easily post passwords further into the game and anyone could continue from that point.

Ballistix I don't see as able to be completed/cleared. I've played it, but nothing special happened after beating the CPU aside from entering your name at the high score screen.
Oh, and BUMP to the top.

I started playing Alien Crush. Is it possible to beat that game? Google searches said that something happens if you get 999,999,990 points, but that just seems obscene since I played on game for two hours and got to like 30,000,000.

I'm still making a run at Alien Crush, it just takes so damn long. There is a tendency to get bored of playing after like 2-3 hours straight.
Good luck, my friend. You have the stamina. Now take some amphetamines at the ~1.5 hour mark and you'll be fine. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

I don't condone cheating, but for games like this, emulators with save states can be your best friend. Especially if you don't have the time to devote to such endeavors. Of course pausing the console works too, but I for one don't like leaving a system on for extended periods when not being used.

Boxyboy is definitely a big one with 250 levels according to what I have read. I'm up to level 79 and I have lost count of how many hours I have put into the game over the past few weeks since I started. I doubt I'll get through all of it.

we'd almost have to start a separate thread just for boxy boy and have a pcefx group clear, share the password lol. Yeah I usually get to level 15 and I'm sick of it. I also noticed they changed the music and some stuff with the US version . The PCE version has some really chill puzzle music.

Bonk's Adventure Cyber Core Impossamole Keith Courage Neutopia Neutopia II Silent Debuggers Victory Run
I'm curently trying to beat SideArms and Gate of Thunder.

I've documented clearing the quest mode in Final Lap Twin, does that count?
http://www.frozenutopia.com/final_lap_twin.html
I'm currently playing through Vasteel (as Fallial, since he can use the Reaper in later maps, and that thing pwns all)... currently at Nickeeyu 1... took the "hard" routes each time.
reno5: if you don't lose a block, you can't get the Jump Unit... I deliberately lose one non-essential block just to get it (usually D). B, C, and G are the ones you really have to protect... especially C.

Drop an Atomic Bomb on a Nanotech city to make Robots evolve.
Use a Monolith on a well-populated (2 million or more people) Information Age or Nanotech Age non-mobile city (depending on the campaign) to perform the Planetary Exodus. The first time you do it, it even plays a cute little cutscene for you.
Allow multicellular life to completely die out (putting you back in the geologic time scale) and allow the time to reach 10 billion years to make the sun explode. (http://www.nodtveidt.net/simearth-collapse.png) (http://www.nodtveidt.net/simearth-multicellular.png)
Grossly overwork your population (80 hours or more should do it nicely) to cause a World War.
When you have no sentient species, place a Cetacean on land and quickly use a Monolith on it to make them sentient (it doesn't always work though). Build their cities in the water as opposed to on land... if you put one on land, it will be a mobile city. They will spread quickly and dominate the planet.
Title: Re: Completing every turbo game 79/143
Post by: nodtveidt on August 19, 2012, 09:27:46 AM
As an aside... I believe that the Planetary Exodus might occur even without the use of the Monolith... you just have to let enough time pass and keep your sentient species occupied for long enough.

Since the Duo no longer plays cards, I dug out the TGPC project I've been working on on-and-off over the past couple of years... it still functions. So, hooked it up to my good screen and conquered another game...
Took 7 continues to do it, but oh well... it's been awhile since I've played it. Got stuck for a bit after the checkpoint in 3, and then restarted a couple of times in 4. Was in the zone with full power through the first half of 5 so I made it to the checkpoint with ease but took a few continues to clear it completely. 6 went down easier than usual, only a couple of retries past the checkpoint.

Only thing I can really say for that game is to simply memorize everything... the game is basically split up into two main parts: key-chasing, and surviving in the lower levels. For the first part, the key-chasing part, you simply visit specific rooms in a certain order... and memorize the patterns of all the enemies and how tough they are. Once you get into the lower levels, the task is simply to survive... take as few hits as possible, and try not to run into any traps (there are quite a few instant death traps down there). It can be extremely frustrating since you have so few lives yet such a huge hit point amount... to lose all of your hit points in one shot REALLY sucks. The game is a lot harder than it looks but put in some practice and memorize the best route to take and you'll eventually beat it. I might actually do a pictorial for this game at some point.
EDIT: Oh, and there are a couple of rooms you absolutely do NOT have to visit... you don't have to visit Wednesday's room, or the room where you chase Granny as she opens bags which release flying... things. Neither are required to get through the key-chase part, but they're kinda funny anyway... especially Wednesday's room, where she makes an NES chase after you. :P

Tricky Kick is a challenging puzzler. I have beaten it, but I was pathetic (many aborted attempts at stages) compared to my friend (who owned the game at the time). He could crush Tricky Kick, whereas I was praying to pass later stages unscathed.
It's a quirky game with a surprising amount of personality for having such GODDAMN TINY SPRITES.

Hi friends. I'd like to get my name on the list with The Dynastic Hero. I just got this wonderful game last week (finally!) and beat it today. And I have to say, what an incredible game! Terribly addictive. Gorgeous graphics with lively colors and aside from a few painful jumping sections, the gameplay is a blast. The controls are tight and Dyna is responsive and easy to control. It's one of those games that just sucks you in and I just couldn't put it down until I was done. One of my Duo faves! I'm proud to be an owner of this game! I took some pics with the crappy iPad camera, but I thought it was better than nothing. I would add them in a spoiler tag, but I can't figure out how to make spoilers for the life of me. Here goes! Did you beat it... or did you beat it beat it?
It doesn't count unless you get all of the hidden fruit and beat all the extra stages.
BTW - One of my favorite games on the system, hope you enjoyed it!
I guess I just beat it. Plus it probably doesn't count, a friend and I used emulation with save states (only to save progress). We didn't cheat but it was split up into many sessions.

If you had fun playing the game, I recommend trying to go back and beat it with all the fruit. On each stage there is a piece hidden in a random spot. Finding the fruit adds a level of challenge to the game and is a lot of fun.
I cleared this game twice all stages, but it was before this thread started, so it doesn't count :)

Yep! And unlocks another set of levels that are quite a bit harder, along with another fruit challenge.
One of my top 3 turbo titles, and in my top 10 for all consoles.

SPLASH LAKE, one of the most under-appreciated Turbo games...

Shalom Brother! Sorry I can't count it brosauce, because of the save states.

I'm almost done with Splash Lake myself, but I'm stuck at 5-4 Rev. at the moment. And after Rev., there's still an additional 60 levels to conquer. The game has 180 levels in total... just clearing the first 60 doesn't count. :)

It appears there is finally a game I am better than Rover at! Hooray!

Nooo! all I ever wanted was to be on the leader board. Jk. It is a really fun game. My friend and I didn't realize we could hop on the water until halfway through the game. That made things a lot more interesting.

I know its been beaten already, but figured I'd post anyway. :) Completed Riot Zone this morning.
Legend of Hero Tonma completed a while back with a old screen shot. Or do they have to be recent?
They have to be since the opening of this thread. Otherwise anyone could just say how they have already played through every game or just post a link to their daisakusen clear list.

Updated. I haven't been on here in awhile, glad people are still playing through games. I haven't had much time to play Video games lately, but I'll see if I can clear one that hasn't been crossed out yet today.

I played through and beat Legend of Hero Tonma back in October (http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=4765.msg264101#msg264101). I just never posted it in this thread. I might be able to dig up my camera shot of the ending screen if I take the time...
I thought about starting a new thread like this for 2013 and seeing if we could beat them all in the 2013 calendar year, but maybe we can complete them by May 21, 2013, which would be one year from when you started this thread.
Edit: I just noticed that RoyVegas beat Legend of hero Tonma and posted an ending screenshot here (http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=11867.msg281190#msg281190), so go ahead and give him the credit when you update your first post completion list.

Nah, it was as old pic which wasn't during the contest. I wasn't aware of them all having to be completed within a year. All yours buddy!

Is the two player mode fun in that game? Been thinking of picking that one up, as I've been on a shooter kick lately, and wondering if I could get the wife to play

Actually, it is. That is until the last level. The last level is full of cheap run-into-walls deaths, and 2 players getting cheap deaths burn through your continues credits MUCH faster. Up till the last level, though, its somewhat difficult but good. I recommend getting it, although I would put both Hellfire S, Salamander, and definitely Sapphire ahead of Aero Blasters in the 2-player shoot-'em-up fun game category.

I noticed nobody has put World Class Baseball on here. I'm going to look at which team I want to play as, and I'll try and beat it. I actually like the game so it won't be too stressful. :)

Lost 3-1 to the World Champs today, but I'll definitely beat them by the weekend, and you can make that number 91.

Photos to come soon, but World Class Baseball is finally beat. 7-6 win in final game, after almost giving up a two run HR in the bottom of the ninth. Yuck.

Well we failed, but it was a good effort. Congrads to everyone who beat games, i know this thread gave me some motivation to beat some hard games.
Well, we should do it again! If it hadn't been for this thread, I would have started a 'Beat Every TG-16 Game in 2013' thread back at the beginning of December. Since this thread has finished, maybe you (or if you're too busy to keep the thread updated) or someone else could start a new one on June 1st or some likely date.
