ooOOOoooo... That's pretty.  Given the backlog of models I currently have, I can't justify spend $100 on another one right now.  But that is really cool.  Someone on the forums ought to get one so they can show it off at the conventions. :D

i haven't put together a kit like this (or even a car kit since I was a kid). Do these come in a solid plastic color on parts trees like other kits and you have to do all the painting and everything?

I build lots of models, cars, Gundam, etc. I live 10 minutes from both the best hobby shop I've ever seen and also the Gundamstoreandmore.com warehouse so I'm fairly well hooked up.

Dang, $100 for a 5500 yen kit? I'd buy that somewhere else.

Its interesting that they say its 1/100. I have no idea how big the R Type ship is, but it must be a lot bigger than I thought it was otherwise this thing is going to be friggn puny.

Here are some more pics:

First off, this is the basic Bearguy:

Mine has been modified, usually they don't have funnels and such. The Bearguy was easily the most modded kit of 2011.

The Bearguy itself is a gag version of fan favorite Acguy:

Here is another one I did recently, the RGM-79C "Powered GM":

I get emails from NCS everyday. Basically they promote pre-painted nudie girl statues to perverts too lazy to paint a garage kit.

I went to buy the latest SRW game from them and NCS's price was $20 higher than Play Asia's. I've been shopping with NCS for 15+years so I'd like to support them but...$20 price difference on an $80 is kind of ridiculous.

I was never aware of models like this.  Call me naive.  I'm use to the typical cars, planes, etc.  I have to say these, especially the one you posted the link for (above) are fantastic.  All of them get my model adrenaline pumping.

What does the R-Type model sell for?

The price was in the link.

Preorders ship in late August 2012 at JPY5,500 or US$100.90 from NCS.

Damn, I can't see that.  Grey size 6 font.  Where the hell are my glasses?  Thanks roflmao.

A hundy for that model seems like a pretty decent deal.  When it arrives what's included?  Do you get to paint every aspect or are some parts pre-painted?

Wait... That might be in the damn link too.  *Fifty runs off to check*

Without seeing the size or complexity of the kit I can't say if $100 is a good deal or not. It better be pretty f*cking big and have a good gimmick or two to justify that price. Franky, I'd rather have one of the R- Type garage kits that have been released.  If you have the skill, resin is often easier to work worth when you want something fixed pose, than IP now that IP kits have gotten so ridiculously complicated.

BTW, HLJ lists this kit for $55 preorder, due in August.

$55 is more tempting.  Still I have so many models and minis to complete....  Ugh.

I still prefer the look of the first R-Type model, but I agree that $55 is easier to swallow.

Wow, that R-Type model is amazing. I've always wanted to get into model building but never really have had the patience for painting or applying decals.

I've been wanting to build the r-type kit but the prices for it are really high. I just built the Darius kit though and I think it turned out really nice. I just started modeling again recently and this was my first kit I completely painted and detailed.

Very nice Punkic. How much did you have to paint on the model ?
Title: Re: R-type Final model kit
Post by: PunkicCyborg on October 29, 2013, 07:03:57 AM
I painted everything with spray paints and i panel lined with grey and black gundam markers and a green micron marker for the thrusters then I did 2 layers of clearcoat. Not the cheapest way to go about painting  but I think it turned out really nice. Not sure what I will do with my next kit which will probably be a mech since the spray is expensive. Not quite ready for airbrushing though.

Nice, im not really ready for spray painting. I have a few duplicate gundam kits (custom Gouf, and zaku) that i plan on painting and adding battle effects to soon. Gotta finish my real grade zaku and real grade rx -78 first

Awesome I was just looking for a thread like this the other night but didn't find any :) I'm on too many forums already and didn't want to join up on one just to share my couple of pics.
If you use instagram there's lots of awesome people on there with some crazy awesome work.

Here is the MS-06S ZAKU II i just finished building. I still have to add all the decals. I also wanted to add a top coat. Something i haven't tried yet. I have been researching it, and have found lots of information. I was planning on using Krylon flat top coat. Do you guys have any suggestions?

For decals most people spray a gloss coat before the decals then a matte or semi gloss when every thing is done. You dont want a shiney gundam.  The gloss coat is supposed to make it easier to apply decals but if it's not painted you probably dont have to worry about that. I bought a can or Mr Hobby semi gloss top coat off of ebay and I think it looks great. Might want to avoid spray from the store since some of the chemicals might have a reaction to the plastic or decals.
Have you tried panel lining yet? It really makes your kits pop. I just got a gundam panel line marker but you can get a super fine marker from an art store by Micron. If you decide to do that before you do the top coat.

Its actually already panel lined. Its just hard to tell in that cell phone photo. Also the decals i add are the stickers that came with the real grade kit. Do you think i still need to apply a gloss coat? Like you said, I don't want a shiny Gundam. I want it to have a matte (flat) finish.

So yesterday i picked up some Tamiya 79 semi gloss clear and some Testors dull top coat. So far i have had mixed results on my test models. The semi gloss doesn't seem to add much, also it made the panel lines i put on the test model run (not sure if that was due to the fact that i applied the panel line around 10 minutes before spraying with the tamiya)The Testors definitely added a matte finish, maybe a bit to much of a matte finish. Also if you look closely there is a blotchy look to the plastic. Any tips or other methods i should try.

Also, here is a tutorial i got most of my tips from

Gundam markers take a little while longer to completely dry than most paints so that might be why
