Title: Tapping the Composite Video Signal from a TurboDuo
Post by: NightWolve on May 24, 2012, 07:57:08 PM
Have a friend who says he's getting a black'n'white picture when connecting his Turbo Duo up via the standard video cable. I suggested that if he taps the composite signal from the earliest possible point, that might help. I've seen the RGB mod images which show you how to tap that signal, but not the composite since that's the default output and as such is unnecessary knowledge. I will look for screenshots after having made this thread, but if someone already knows the earliest point where to tap the signal, I'd appreciate the info/image. Also, does my idea have merit or not, or is the black'n'white symptom a much more serious problem?

Here's the RGB Mod, http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/rgbturbo.htm but unless he's gotta build that circuit that thesteve built to generate a new composite signal out of the RGB one, it's not very useful.

You can tap composite directly from pin 44 on the Hu6260 chip http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/pce/rgb.htm

Oh, so "Composite Sync" IS the composite video signal itself ? OK, I read up a little bit, it seems they're combined, composite sync information and NTSC video and you still need to know about it cause the sync information is needed for some monitors for the RGB Mod to work. But anyway, so just tapping pin 44 and not needing any circuit to separate the sync out will do the trick ??

Tapping pin 44 will show you if the composite on the vid chip is damaged or if there is a problem elsewhere. Hopefully you will get color from there.

Thanks! I relayed the info to him. It's for his "FrakenDuo" as he calls it - opening it isn't a problem because, quote: "I'm quite sure the cover was torn apart in a fit of vodka rage as I never had the right screw drivers for it 11 years ago... I took the case apart using vodka, orange juice and a hammer."

Murdering a Duo is a capital offense....  :(
