The ad says TurboGrafx, but the hu card has "PC" on it. Neither the PCE or TG-16 have artwork like this on their hu cards. Is it even part of the NEC family?

Yep. You can even see a Bomberman pirate like this one in the top left.

Call me naive, but I didn't realise pirate copies existed. I should have, as they exist for every other format on the planet. So pirates were able to take Bomberman and stick it onto a HU card? Where did they get the hu cards? Why the hell didn't the put Magical Chase or Bonk's III onto one?

Because they didn't exist. Those bootlegs were made before the PCE was discontinued. They were also made made for a market other than North America, where stuff like mahjong is popular. Also, Bonk 3 is a massive and expensive to produce HuCard. Pirates tend to concentrate on small, cheap to reproduce titles.

Maybe a better question is how the hell did a pirated copy get to my hometown? We have 1,000,000 people in this city, but I think only 5 of us have TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine consoles. :-k

Did you buy it Fifty? I'd like it if for nothing BUT the novelty of it. :)

No I didn't buy it. He wants $24 for it. I never thought about the novelty of it, but now that you put it in my mind I might make him an offer. I'll throw a $10 at him and see if he bites. I'll let him know it's a pirated copy of the game.

I recently bought a complete bootleg HuCard locally for $10.
-
I always thought Bomberman was made for NEC Turbo. Wishfull thinking huh.

What title and do you have pics?

Uh, what?

Oooh I'd snap that up if I could. I hate it when I unknowingly buy boots. But buying known, interesting boots is good. Hucard boots qualify as "interesting" in my book.

I offered him $10 and mentioned it was a bootleg copy. He never replied to my email. I hate people that don't reply.

Thanks, B.T. I'd definitely have paid $10 for that one, just as an oddity.

Count me in as one of the folks who enjoy the novelty of these pirated HuCards, especially the "4-in-1" combos (because, for some reason, I am easily amused.
Which 4 games would I group together on a pirate cart?
That is the eternal question.
(1) Would I be entirely predictable and group four sports games together? Boring.
(2) Would I be totally random (possibly amusing combinations abound!)
(3) Would I be artsy and group by theme/unifying concepts? (For example, consider the suburban decay of Yo Bro and JJ & Jeff... or how some titles render the player as masochist--Ballistix and Drop Rock come to mind immediately.
