Title: What to buy from Hit Japan?
Post by: soop on July 10, 2012, 11:07:42 PM
I just got Kyukyoku Tiger from Hit Japan for ~£12 which is pretty good, but when I buy it's generally a good idea to get a few other things at the same time for the slight shipping discount.

I'm pretty certain I'm gonna get Thunder Blade (the last game that uses the analogue stick) and Chan and Chan.

Then there's Be-ball and Bari Bari Densetsu, which are just cheapies I need the cases for, and apart from that we have:

Valkyrie Densetsu
Marchan Maze
Dragonball Z (the fighting one that might be hard to play)
Dragon Sabre
Winds of Thunder (good price, but might still be too expensive).

Any opinions here?  And if anyone wants to snap up a loose Be-ball or Bari Bari Densetsu, gimme a shout.

Strangest thing though...  For some reason the shipping for this game costs 50% more than the shipping for any other complete HuCard game.  $9 as opposed to $6.  Maybe the manual is really heavy, but I've contacted them.

Hopefully the knowledge that I plan to buy more will engage their common sense.

Turns out I wasn't as broke as I thought.  I can't afford loads, but a combination of miscalculating outgoing funds, and the fact that I don't actually have a working pin number means I'm doing alright.  Though I really should save a bit...

get winds of thunder if you don't have it already (which is kinda very strange to not have it already).

It was one of the first things I got on the Wii store, but I really don't play it much.  Gate of Thunder just seems better.  The only reason I'd buy it is that it seems like a good price.

You know it was Winds of Thunder and Spriggan that were two of the first PC Engine games I'd heard of, along with Ys.  Made me really want it.  And... uh I'm listening to Winds of Thunder music right now, and it is actually pretty sweet T___T

i agree that got is nuances better than wot, but which still makes it an uberamazing excellent game.
to not owning wot (or only owning a crappy wii version of it, which i can understand isn't as much of fun bringing as the original deal on the original hardware) is kinda blasphemy to the system..lol.

Best game on the PC Engine, it's my favorite game of all time on any system.

Best way to buy from Hit, is to buy a bunch at once.  They combine shipping, just have them invoice you after you buy the stuff.  With that said, buy all on the list you have.  :)

also, buy a few random things to confuse them!

They will probably f*ck up and send you the wrong item and then tell you to keep it cause it costs 80$ to ship it back.

Thats what's happened to me before, at least.

"Oh you bought 6 PCE games and a Famicom game? Here! Have a white Sega Saturn!  Oh! You want those games? Ok we're sending them, KEEP THE SATURN" udrhudhdrdr

I usually just go to their store, and filter the section using sort by lowest price first.  Then just start shopping.  There are plenty of $3-$7 games that would make you happy.

Kunio Soccer $5?  Sure!!
Kabuki Den for $8?

And so on.....

If I understand it correctly www.gameofjapan.com (http://www.gameofjapan.com/) is the same as Hit Japan, that being said there are time that I have found slightly better prices on their website.

You can buy hu-card games in 10 or 20 bundles, admittingly they are not the best games, but I've seen street fighter and a super system card 3.0 in one of the bundles ages ago.

I suggest Dragon Ball Z if its under $20 and if you have kids. Its not all that hard, but the novelty of how the game is setup wears off after you finish it the first time. I sold mind with the spine card on these very forums not too long ago, kind of wishing I didn't. I will say this though, its definitely not your standard fighting game.

Dear hit-japan,

Hi, I think I want to buy a few other games to combine shipping, but for some reason, the other games are $6 shipping, apart from Winds of Thunder, and this game which is $9 - is there any reason for this? And can you give me a rate (unregistered airmail) for this game and 4-7 other games (complete HuCard games)

register fee including for higher priced items. thanks

OK.  Anybody speak Engrish?

So, WoT is more expensive to ship because it's more expensive to buy, or what? :-k

My Engrish is a bit rusty.

I think maybe he means that he only ships expensive items registered mail, but Kyukyoku Tiger is more expensive and it's still unregistered anyway.  It doesn't make sense.

Where is Regal when you need him?

Incidentally, I just ordered a half-dozen CD games from them (last night) and noticed the invoice shipping came out to $24 where I was expecting $21. I messaged him, let's see where it goes.

Yeah, I've had a few issues with their shipping prices being padded out by a few dollars more than it should be. It doesn't help that the combined shipping rates that they list in their listings aren't always consistent between the same types of games.

I've noticed that their auctions tend to incur a higher shipping rate than normal, but I've been able to get around this by buying BIN items at the same time and combining shipping with the auctioned items.

I must say that generally they are pretty good, I order from them all the time and don't encounter any major problems, but it does piss me off when a listing states that shipping for one game is $6 and an extra $3 per game thereafter - but when the adjusted invoice comes in they always seem to sneak in a few extra dollars in shipping charges.

I just checked the listed shipping costs on all six games. Three of them were $6 shipping, $3 for each additional. The other three were just $6 shipping, no mention of additional games. How frustrating, you would think the extra 1-2$ would be a wash when buying a half-dozen games at a time.

Yeah, thinking about it now though, it would probably make perfect sense to him, but I doubt he'd be able to express it in a way we'd understand.

So I got a similar response when I asked about why the shipping came out higher than I'd figured it out to be:

"as described, for over $40 purcchase, we need to charge $4.5 registration fee. thanks"

I then re-checked some of his auctions and he does include a message (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300646267854#ht_3785wt_1163) about it, but it's buried in text within an image and honestly I missed it. I'm sure other people have done the same. Considering how uptight eBay gets about what sellers charge for shipping, I'm surprised they're OK with him adding that fee and sort of hiding it in his listings. He could modify that source image to say whatever he wants it to, effectively skirting eBay restrictions on modifying a listing.

I'm not gonna complain, since I got a decent deal on the games. :D  But I still don't like it.

doen't really matter. 95% of all fees out there in the big wide world are arbitrary.

Ok, I ended up getting 5 games; Thunderblade, Kyukyoku Tiger, Chan and Chan, BB Densetsu and The Kung Fu.  So 3 new games, and 2 cases.  I'll likely be raffling of the Kung Fu huey when it arrives.
