Title: What games have a fan translation
Post by: sauce55 on August 06, 2012, 06:01:27 PM
I wanted to know if there were any PCE CD games that have received a fan translation.  There are a lot of good Japanese RPG's out there but i cant read Japanese and would like to play them.

Startling Odyssey II, Ys IV, Couple HuCARDS that slip my mind currently.  Wanna say Lady Sword?  Another CD one is Xak III.

Read the rules, please.  Linking to roms and isos is a bannable offense.

Clearly not enough as these "elitists" are still messing about with NES and SNES stuff.

"Motteke Tamago" was released in 1997 as a free pack-in game in the "Super PC-Engine Fan Deluxe" magazine, so I've always felt comfortable hosting the full image file set for that one (there's no other way to get it):

It's like a Bomberman derivative, kinda fun for a bit. And yeah, the other PCE CDs are Xak III and Ys IV: DOY of course.

Xak III is a traditional RPG, but I wish I could've worked with a better translator. I edited it as best I could, but it would need a lot more work to make it less literal/boring sounding.

So do I, but when you have 200+ translations for the snes alone and maybe 20ish for the pce it makes you wonder where their priorities lie. Its something that really is overdue and I'm sure there are rpgs people outside of Japan haven't even heard about for the PCE.

Hope springs eternal, but I'm not holding my breath that it'll ever get finished.

What game do you think has the best fan translation?

best is hard to measure, thats more a matter of opinion. startling odessy 2 is a great game, but the translation it not fully complete. It is however a complex game compared to some other translations, and really fun to play. y's 4 is more complete but much harder. you just gotta try them out.

I chat with David (the hacker in this case) on AIM once in a while or in the #utopiasoft chatroom on efnet. I can ask him sometime. Hm, last time I asked him was 2010:

Quote
NightWolve: How about your Cosmic Fantasy 1 project ?
Dave Shadoff: hmm
Dave Shadoff: I haven't touched it in about a year
Dave Shadoff: I was making good progress, then I got a bit tired of it and I got super busy in lots of other areas

I looked at that youtube video again, and I didn't remember it was sporting such a clear fixed-width font. I don't think I like it, but it's cool that he got it working, not sure though if it was supported ready-to-go or he had to perform a font-hack, good either way. It seems like very ClearType, anti-aliased quality and whatnot.

I was asking since it has been years i heard about it.Then again i don't all ways expect a fan translation to be completed, some thing all ways happens and that's it.Still it would be some thing 'if CF1 was completed there's all ways some game on cd that use a translation.
