10,000 square miles is a lot.

Interesting.  Maybe they'll float over to that big mass of plastic bits, solidify, and form Hawaii 2.0.

That crazy mass of plastic may eventually be sorted out; I read that a teenager in India developed a cheap efficient way to turn billions of tonnes of waste plastic into a lot of money's worth of fuel (although I did also hear something similar about plastic bags a while ago).

I'm hoping it will make it worth someone's time to fish it out and do something with it.

And on a completely unrelated tip, I read that seawater actually contains trace amounts of gold, to the point where if you could find an efficient way to process it, you'd have access to billions of tonnes.  Of course really, there's quite a lot of water, and there's the law of diminishing returns...

seawater and granite to name a few. there is trace amounts of gold damn near everywhere. If the concentration is not high enough, its not worth processing.

I love stuff like this. It makes me feel like a kid again: where the world can be an awesome, mystical place. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

I never heard of the rubber ducks/turtles/newts/frogs making an epic voyage like that! That is truly fantastic. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

Wouldn't it be funny if thousands of little gold rocks washed up on Britannia shores?
