hello,
despite building up a pc engine rpg collection, i started to collect japanese guide books.
i already own one for emerald dragon and i bought fuun kabuki den, dragon slayer 1+2 guide books at ebay recently.
this november i will make a three weeks trip to japan to buy some more games and guide books. does anyone know a good shop there to buy guide books?
iam still looking for the legend of xanadu, tenshi no uta, tengai makyou ziria/manjimaru guide books. but where to buy them in japan or maybe online?
book off in japan was great but i dont know if they had any guide books. but i have to say that back in 2010 when i travelled to japan for the first time, i only looked for games.
thanks

If you plan on using the books and they're not just collectibles, you can get guide books for the rereleases of Tengai Makyou II for DS/PS2/GC.

do you know where to get tengai makyou manjiamaru guide books, maybe for the DS version? i think this one is clostest to the original.
at ebay i bought tree new guide books: tengai makyou fuun kabuki den, dragon slayer 1, dragon slayer 2.

I've been collecting these for a while, and I actually have duplicates of some, which I was planning on selling sometime soon.
(I've bought a bunch of "big lots" for the sake of one or two guides I need, leaving me with duplicates).
PC Engine-related magazines too.
I can't put it all up here right now, but I'll try to put something up in a few weeks.
Since you're going to Japan, try Akihabara (in Tokyo) first. Lots of game shops - though older things are getting harder to find.
Check out Super Potato first - best chance of finding stuff, but maybe not the best price you'll find if you spend all day:

If you're going to Osaka, check out Nipponbashi - I've seen some guidebooks in the game shops there too.
Book Off has been hit-and-miss for me, depending on the area/region; generally PC Engine stuff is too old/niche for most locations, but you might luck out.
I was thinking of going to Jimboucho in Tokyo because I hear they have lots of specialty bookstores... I'll let you know if I find more information.
But I think most of these guidebooks are on Yahoo Japan Auctions.
There are a few people and companies who can help you to buy stuff from there, but don't expect the final price to look anything like the apparent auction price, once all the shipping and service fees are included. It could still end up cheaper than eBay though.

When I was last in Tokyo I got some from Super Potato and Trader2, but as said they Super Potato are not the cheapest but have a large stock. managed to find an R-Type, Gunhed and Dragon Spirit for cheap... 8)
Also, I got some at Nakano Broadway. at what I remember to be a Mandrake... I might have that wrong though, but it was on the 2nd floor.
