I generally stick with headphones if I want to listen in stereo.

Kinda defeats the purpose of a portable system.

Playing Turbochips with stereo speakers is awesome, but, if I want stereo speakers, then I'll put my Turbochips in my TG16 which is hooked up to awesome speakers. If I were dorky enough to play my TurboExpress on-the-go or in public (god forbid), I sure wouldn't be hassling with extra speakers and batteries or anther power source. And who wants to subject everyone within earshot to their TE music?  I can't stand hearing people's two-second ringtones.

Also, portable speakers are portable because the sound quality has been compromised, so why look for "good" ones?... I really don't understand the point of this thread.

THESE look pretty good!

I just plug the audio cables directly into my ears.  That's the only way to listen to Turbo Music.

I modded my Turbo Express to output digital audio to the Turbo Link port, and that goes directly into my brain. I then convert that in realtime to 7.1 surround sound in my brain, it is simulated of course.

stereo out of the express would be bad ass, what about a BOSE system or the little speakers that pop open? see at my pad the kids take over the bedroom tv, and sometimes the living room tv,
at times im blazin in the bus drinkin 40's and i dont have a tv in there yet. so i was thinking of just getting something at target.
i hate having earbuds or headphones on when everyone is around. usually my bus is the party hub or at least chill spot. i dont have a home system yet but i may never get one and just mod the hell out of the express.

OK, all kidding aside, I have actually plugged TE and GT into:

(1) home stereo (1/8" stereo plug-->L/R RCA stereo cables)

(2) a nice subwoofer+2 satellite speakers system (self-contained, often used w/ desktop computers) (1/8" male plug to 1/8" male plug)

And it is a lot of fun to hear BOOMING WALL OF SOUND from a relatively tiny handheld. I use these cables to listen to my cassette walkman/laptop/ipod/ipad/iphone via nicer speakers as well.

This is truly the low-tech, low-cost solution to obtaining WALL OF SOUND for $1-2. You might pay more if you need really long cables (extension cables are sold).

Not really.

Unless you are an EXTREME HANDHELD GAMER (running around your house/neighborhood/Wendy's), you tend to be pretty damn stationary when playing.

And, as 420GOAT stated, he doesn't always want to wear headphones. So we are left with the valiant but all-too-hollow-sounding built in TE/GT speaker.

I WANT MY WALL OF SOUND.

(http://junk.tg-16.com/images/wall_of_sound.jpg) (http://junk.tg-16.com/audio/Ganbare_Golf_Boys/Ganbare_Golf_Boys_(Track_2).mp3)

Especially when playing TG-16. And PCE.

Remarkably, it takes mere moments to plug my TE/GT into a home stereo/boombox/car sound system/etc.

ALSO: 420GOAT and I are often unable to use the television/room with television because they are occupied (kids, spouse, kids' friends, spouse's friends, etc.) so... that sucks.

Additionally, for me (I can't speak for 420GOAT), I can't leave my two 13-month-olds alone for more than a minute without worrying about them.

So, the TE is a convenient, flexible, non-intrusive way to play some TG-16. Hell, I use an AC adapter 80% of the time.

BUT WHY SHOULD I SACRIFICE WALL OF SOUND?

I want my wall of sound.

Then again, I am not an XTREME HANDHELD GAMER who sprints about, performing pirouettes and demi-pliés whilst playing Dragon Spirit.

Although, I must admit that it would be satisfying to grand-plié upon 1CC-ing Dragon Spirit.

Hmmmmm. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

Well, I use my earphones because my caps need replacing.  But you could use this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/iLuv-ISP100-Ultra-Mini-Portable-Travel-Speakers-IPOD-Iphone-MP3-7-2Watt-Surround-/120928571010?pt=UK_MP3_Player_Accessories_AudioDocks_Speakers&hash=item1c27e78e82

I'm gonna get one for the portable I'm building.  I read a guide from another modder, and he reckons they're very punchy for their size, compared to many others he's tried - and they have a built in amp.

I don't know about hooking a handheld system up to external speaksers, but there's nothing like a nice pair of headphones. Good headphones don't just make chiptunes sound good, they improve your quality of life.

But as far as portability for my handhelds, I couldn't care less. They are played 99% at home.
