What would it be? I just got my pc-engine duo in the mail today, and been having a great time with Dracula X! But as my title says, if you could experience any game all over for the first time, what would it be? Pc Engine or Tg-16 hucard or Cd rom!
-
Welcome aboard and great question.... For me it would be dragon spirit... (( blush)) its what helped get me get hooked on the tg16... I played it so much and loved the tunes and the fun, nothing ground breaking but for me it was some good times I still remember.
-
Chrono Trigger. I don't think I slept for days when it came out :)
-
Hmmm even after all the Turbo/PCE games I've played I'd would still have to say Bonk's Adventure, I loved that game as a kid and still do. The graphics, the music, the satisfying gameplay, the characters and bosses, it has everything a mascot driven platformer needs and then some. Its a game I still play through every now and then.
The original Bonk's Adventure still has a lot of charm that I don't think the sequels were able to match.
-
There are a lot of RPG's I could pick. CT was a good pick, but since it has been said i'll go Baldur's Gate.
-
Blazing Lazers for me.
In late 89/early 90 I played the hell out of this game. Ever day I got a little further... figured out which weapons worked best for each stage, memorized the enemy patterns, and slowly progressed. When I finally got to level 9 and defeated Mother Brain, man what a rush!
-
If i could play any turbo game again for the first time it would be nuetopia. it was the first turbo game i ever saw, and i fell in love immediatly.
-
Ys 1&2!
-
Bonk'a adventure and Revenge. First two video games I ever played. ahhhhhh, I still do relive that moment every time I look at my systems. Mario is fine and dandy, Sonic is cool, But Bonk, he for me is the ultimate video game representative. To this day I still compare every game I've ever played to the feeling I get from Bonk. going to go play a bit right now.
-
If I can pick a non turbo game.... I'd say either Star Control 2 on PC, or Final Fantasy 7.
-
Turbo for me would be Beyond Shadowgate. Nonturbo would be Dragon Warrior for NES.
-
Ys 1&2!
Ditto! Or the first time playing the 3 (really 4) in 1 gates of thunder disk. Lots of good times there.
-
There are two games that, made me NEED a TG16, and those were Splatterhouse and Cadash. Due to that fact, would love to give them a go for the first time all over again to relive the excitement.
-
Probably Military Madness.
-
drac x, gate of thunder, winds of thunder, seirei senshi spriggan,
-
Ys 1&2!
Ditto it's music, voice acting not mention it's cut scenes.
-
Ys 1&2!
yup.
Although the experience of opening the duo I got and watching the gate of thunder bonk entrance would def be there right next to it.
-
Screw video games. If I had the power of selective amnesia, I would put Terminator 2 on repeat and watch it till I starve.

This man speaks the truth.
-
TANGENT: Terminator 2 was overwrought. Sorry. And I saw it in the theatre the day it was released. I know I'm messing with you guys, but I'm serious, too. Oh well, you'd probably not want to waste your choice on The Thing (Carpenter), which I saw on HBO at my grandma's (she fell asleep and the LATE MOVIES started...and it was the scariest, best movie experience of my life. I was 7-8 years old and had never seen anything like that. I think it took a year? for a movie to make it to HBO in the early 80's, so I was probably 8.(http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)
ARCADE: Joust. Loved this in the arcade.
TG-16: Dungeon Explorer (HuCard), Ys I & II (CD)
NES: Any game by Konami/Ultra (choose one, you say?, Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest). Even stupid Bayou Billy would be OK. If I had to choose one, though, it would be Capcom's Bionic Commando. If I got to choose one by Data East, it would be Karnov.
-
NES: Any game by Konami/Ultra.
Oh shit, I forgot about Ultra, AKA Metal Gear.
NES: Metal Gear or Ultima Avatar
TG16: Order of the Griffon
Movie: T2
-
Looks like one of the first games I'm going to tackle is Ys 1&2! I don't have enough experience in Turbo Grafx, but other systems I would say Chrono Trigger or Earthbound to replay for the first time, but they still hold up really well even today. I would love to experience Final Fantasy VII again for the first time, unfortunately by today's standards the game doesn't hold up very well graphically and makes it hard for me to get through!
-
Gates and Lords, didn't get to play this until 1999 when I got my first turbo duo as a young man:)
-
Shenmue 2 and Super Robot Wars Alpha.
Oh, Turbo? Ys I&II, no question.
-
Neutopia II for me
Loved that game and want to play it back
-
Ys 1&2!

You remember when you fought the vampire thing and the sorcerer for the first time. Yeah it gets you right their. Playing Y's, was because I wanted to something that was not Zelda, and was different.
I can't believe the sorcerer stone has lip, as well. I was like "who was behind it all, oh it was the giant floating rock, that the people kept making wishes from. Those two "Goddesses" would have made better villains, I wonder how that ending would have been like, I imagine Adol holding them down and......Iron peaching em. I guess that game will have to wait. What kind of God would make, a living geni-sphere,
and then let it loose on the world?
-
Ys I&II is the clear winner here because bitd there was NOTHING else like it. Playing it for the first time was almost a religious experience.
-
Ys I & II
then...
Super Metroid
Castlevania SOTN
-
Gates
Don't make me come over there.
-
I am fond of Moto Roader, Gate of Thunder and Legendary axe.
-
Splatter house and legendary axe, still remember picking up the turbo and playing them all nite long
-
Gates
Don't make me come over there.
Zeta, I didn't know that Gates had a two-player co-op mode.
building on topic: The best 2-player co-op experience I want to re-live would be...
I don't know. Hmmm...Wonderboy III: Monster Lair and Dungeon explorer might be my choices for Turbo.
-
bonk
then chrono trigger still probably one of the best games i have ever played
final fantasy III / 6
-
4 way tie! Ys Book I&II, GoT, LoT, and Spriggan
-
Bloody Wolf....Lolz
-
r-type or Legendary axe
-
I wanna say Ys I & II, but Ys Chronicles on the PSP kinda felt like an all new experience, so I'm gonna go with Loom or Beyond Shadowgate.
-
For Turbo it would be:
Ys 1 & 2
Soldier Blade
Final Lap Twin (RPG)
-

Yeah, I totally agree with this. In some respects I like Chronicles more.

I know basically nothing about the PSP or the games released for it.
What exactly make Ys Chronicles better?
-
It's basically the port of Ys Eternal remakes on japanese PC. The chronicles version on psp also has some extra features like the original pc-88 music, the Eternal/Complete music, and a redone Chronicles version. The Chronicles music is amzing. I would go as far to say I enjoy a lot of it more so than the Turbo/PCE version. Which is kind of insane for me to say since Ys is my favorite game on the Turbo.

After reading this praise for the music, I HAVE TO ASK YOU...is there a way for me (sans-PSP) to hear the music from Chronicles? Like, say, mp3's that a comrade has ripped for us?
I can dream (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png).

After thinking about it for a bit I think probably Ys 1&2. At the time that I got it, it was the only CD system around and the voice overs and music were f*cking amazing. There basically wasn't a single second of my first playthrough that I wasn't like "Holy f*cking shit this game is awesome!!!!!"
It was even more amazing when my parents got a new stereo setup and I got their old one. My Dad is a huge audiophile and the old system was amazing (speakers were originally $900 each in 1983 dollars) and pumping the music through that was mind blowing.
-
Popping in Gate of Thunder for the first time was mindblowing for me. I couldn't believe the audio, and the amount of action on the screen; especially in that first level when you go under that giant ship.
Ys I&II was experienced on that same day (I received the Duo as a Christmas present, when it had that awesome pack-in deal), and the opening intro to that was equally impressive. Best Christmas ever!

This was the exact same post I would have put. Only I would have added:
"Ys I&II was experienced on that same day (I received the Duo as a Christmas present, when it had that awesome pack-in deal), and the opening intro to that was equally impressive what with that:
"Ys, an ideal utopia...."
I would have added that.....

For some reason Samurai Ghost seemed to be this one buy that was really special to me as a teen. At the time I had not really played anything like it. Out of all the US titles released, it felt the most "Asian" I guess you could say and it really had its own atmosphere.

Thank you so much! I have been busy the past few days (and I haven't checked my PM's yet), but if I am not completely exhausted tonight, I will be listening to Ys Chronicles :)

Hmmm. neat list. I had forgot about a few of these. I'd love to play some of these over again, so i think I might. I still want to play Chrono for the first time (hear great things)
Best part of this whole thread has been making a list of games I need to try!

Wow... you've never played Chrono Trigger?! I remember playing this one alot on the SNES when I was a kid. Now, its super affordable, either on the PSX or the DS.
-
Yeah, we didn't have a lot of money growing up... so I only got a few games a year. I never knew this game existed till about a year ago. I really only have had time and cash to get back into games recently.
-
We rented alot of games back then... usually could beat them in a weekend or so
-
We did a little, renting was also somewhat of a treat. Our local stores really sucked I guess. I don't remember seeing this one. To be honest though I don't remember exactly which games I played. There were quite a few snes games I played this way.
Edit:
also thinking about it Rentals went out of business too toward the end of the SNES start of the 64 Life here. And I was told the PS was too expensive. I think my age really worked against me as well. born 87 -> I was just a little to young to be able to really into the early 90's games, which would have hooked me, and the late 90's didn't seem to shine to me as far as gaming goes. How i wish now that I would have picked up some of the lesser known titles of the day instead of being sucked into goldeneye, poke'mon, Tomb Raider ect.
-
Super Mario Galaxy was actually really cool the first time I experienced it.
