Title: Complete Magical Chase for Sale on E-bay!!!
Post by: wolfsaq2 on September 02, 2012, 07:00:11 AM
   Hello PCengineFXers,
I apologize if this thread was posted already, but there is a complete Magical Chase up for sale on e-bay. Last time I checked there was four days left and it was almost $2,700!!! I think this will go over $3,500!!! What do you guys think? If anyone bids on it...good luck! I just don't have the money for that one. Peace.

3500$ is way too much for the rarity of this game, and I think most of the board agrees with that.

Thats just stupid crazy. Someone ought to create a bunch of bootlegs of this game so the rest of us can actually play it on the actual system instead of emulating it!

Ain't no way I would pay anywhere close to 1000 for a video game.  Wow, thats insane.  One can get the pc engine version for WAY less.  :)

its just the fact to complete the us version of the collection. noone wants to pay 1k for a game, but it is what it is... one can hope to find one at a thrifty store.

If it's just about playing the real thing, buy the PCE version and have your TG region-modded to play it. It'll cost under 1/10 of what that US one just went for, and open you up for a ton of great PCE-only titles.

Or even cheaper, pick up one of those $45 flash carts and call it a day.

This.

If Magical Chase were a super-awesome game on top of being somewhat rare, I would understand the prices.  Quite frankly, I don't think the PCE version is even worth it, but maybe I just don't like cute-em-ups.

Between roms and flash cards and two different PCE releases and Sparky's inserts and Sparky's labels, there are PLENTY of Magical Chase options for people without a thousand dollars. I've got a region switch on my Duo and I have my PCE MC on the shelf with a Sparky insert and label and it looks great. The last thing we need are indistinguishable repros like the AES or more Sapphire-esque validity FAQ's.

I've thought about this. The problem is making the plastic for the hucard, getting thin PCBs, getting the proper rom chip, burning a rom on to a SOP chip. It is... expensive and time consuming.

As far as legitimacy, I'd photochop the image so the witch is facing the opposite direction. Obvious from a quick examination, but not obvious enough to look illegitimate.

I think that the MC sale makes the other high profile game sold today a bargain.

Dynastic Hero went for EUR 400 = $500.

I agree.  With the way that TG16 prices keep rising, we should hope that we don't turn into the NeoGeo community.  You can't hardly buy an AES game with any confidence of its authenticity unless the seller bought the game new back in the day.

Someone figuring out how to make quality reproductions of TG16 games would be a bad thing.  Just use a flash cart or buy the PCE version.

Why would it be a bad thing? Seriously? Unless you plan to make money off buying TG16 games flooding the market with cheap repros would most definitely kill the gouger market. Hell it wasn't too long ago that most of these "rare" games were sitting in a bargain bin and could be had literally for pennies on the dollar.

Are you sure about that? I can see people buying the cheap repros, and e-baying them as if they were legit.
The sellers would be willing to sell for less, and anyone not knowing what to look for would buy them, thinking they got a good deal. Then, once they found out they were bootlegs, trying the same ploy. The kind of people who would buy MC at the current prices aren't going to take a loss on their purchase.

Meanwhile, the folks with -real- MC cards would be upping the price, and saying things like "-NOT A BOOTLEG-"
End result would be the bootlegs go for what real MC cards go for now (okay, maybe a little less), while real MC cards go even higher. Entirely because Magical Chase is perceived as 'rare'.

Never underestimate the gullabiity of people.

For all we know, most of the copies of Magical Chase being sold are already bootlegs.

If you think this is going to save total fools from themselves, you're wrong.

The sane will play the game off flash cards, the insane will pay thousands for it. If the price somehow dropped to $10 the same morons who are paying $3000 for it now will just find some other piece of plastic to worship.

This isn't about supply and demand, it's about spiritually empty people seeking to fill a whole in their empty lives.

+1. Products and publicity go hand-in-hand and giving addicts a taste of something increases their desire for the real thing. Five years ago everyone was saying "oh sweet - the Virtual Console will help bring prices down." Nope. It just advertised the TG16 to a new generation and increased demand for our already scarce system. Sure enough, some idiot bid $400 for my sealed copy of Military Madness this Spring because he'd played it on Virtual Console and, even though he had nothing to compare it to, bought the hype that "emulation isn't like the real thing." So he went and bought seventy TG games in two months without knowing what they were worth and won my $50 auction with a max bid of $400.

On a similar note, getting into emulation on the XBOX in the early 2000s is what got me into collecting real games again. Though unlike the fellow you mentioned, I spread the collecting out over several years.

BTW, if he won for $50, how do you know what his max bid was?

We had some correspondence before I shipped the item because his ebay mailing address was all messed up. He eventually called me on the phone and proved to be a nice enough guy. I shouldn't call him an idiot, but his impulses as a collector were insane. He was a bit of a chatterbox and told me that after being sniped on my sealed copy of Ys III that went for $260, he set his max bid for Military Madness at $400.

When someone has the clap, you don't say that their dick is "clapping".  If you're going to insult someone, it should at least make sense.

I read it that the boyfriend was giving him a handjob, thus a clapping noise?  Though, if this was the case, then it isn't much of an insult.  Whenever my penis is involved in making clapping noises, I am generally a happy man.

I dunno, man.  I can't think of any game that I would pay that much for.  I guess it's all relative, though.  I could maybe see spending like $400 for one of those NG:Dev Neo-Geo homebrews, but that would be my absolute top end.  And I don't want to sound like a prick, but I feel pretty confident saying that I have more disposable income than the dude in that YouTube video.

I have two games that I paid about $100 each for, and those are my most valuable.  I just can't fathom spending $3k for a game that I can play for free on a flash card.  The two spendy games that I bought are both CD games, one for the Duo, and the other for the Sega CD, and I bought them because I really like them both and don't want to play CDRs for extended periods in my machines.

The guy in the video seems cool enough except that he's showing it off on YouTube, and he frequents NintendoAge.  So that means he's a schmuck.  I'm surprised that he was willing to buy Magical Chase, considering that it isn't VGA graded.

In the 90's Sega converted a (couple?) R360 cab to Virtua On Oritorio Trangram. I would gladly pay $3000 for that. But a f*cking HuCARD? f*ck no. Forget it.

Paying $3000 for a HuCARD when you obviously aren't a millionaire is just proof that you have no idea what life offers and what can really be done with $3000.

Just checked out their channel, they run a game store in a dirt mall....errr flea market in the outskirts of my city. I wouldn't be surprised if I've dealt with that dude before since I've been there a couple times looking for games.

I wish I could defend the guy more, because I've watch his "Video Game Sellers" show for a while...

But right before this, he posted a video (deleted now) where he bitches because he got banned from using ebay buyer protection for getting too many partial refunds. (25% of his last transactions!) Basically, he'd contact the seller, and ask if everything was perfect, and then find flaws to ask for refunds.

It was hellishly shady, and he was even going to complain to a seller that it got wet in the mail because his mailbox leaks! (Which of course, he blamed on the post office guy.)

Wow, what an ass.  I've contacted sellers before about issues and gotten a partial refund but to do it consistently is just asinine.

Its just a dude talking about video games and showing off the collection.  Why is that a big deal or an issue?

Some people like to share what they've got.

It depends on how it's done.  There's nothing wrong with having stuff out and ready to be enjoyed, but it's lame when it's set up primarily for display and the time spent talking about the game in the video far exceeds the time spent actually playing the f*cking game.

There seem to be two general types of retro video content creators out there.  Folks like Desmond(Air Zonk) and Redifer (Game Sack) who are so passionate about playing games that they can't help but show off the walls of some of the games they've experienced.  And then there are guys like this who obtain massive collections over a short period of time who don't seem to have much first-hand knowledge as far as gameplay experience goes.  They seem to be collecting what everyone's talking about, but not actually sitting down and playing any of it.  At the last convention I went to, I was shocked at how many people I talked to about different games who responded with, "Yeah, I picked that up, but haven't played it yet."

Why is this guy wearing a toque indoors? Can he not afford to pay his heating bill after buying Magical Chase?

So this in this video he just about attempting to buy a game at collector prices that he finally got recently (but not a special cheap "find!" or anything), but doesn't give any real impressions of his experience actually playing the game or show any footage* of him playing it or anything?

*video of his monitor playing a video of spida playing MC instead, is hilariously terrible. He couldn't even be bothered to video the attract mode of the real game playing. This only further supports my impression that these types of retro collectors' game playing experience consists (almost?) entirely of watching youtube videos of other people playing games.

Crumpling the manual and smearing it blindly with your greezy fingers also equals failure as a collector.

But the video description best sums up his true passion:

Lol!!!  He is also cutting back on razor blades too!  He doesn't mention what he paid for it...  would be curious what he did pay for it though.

When i first got into youtube videos i used to like videos like petedorr's. I even made a few collection videos. But as time has gone on, ive come to really dislike those videos. The only ones i really like now are shows like bithead1000. He has fun with the show, and itsn't trying to show all the rare shit he bought that hes not going to play.

I like the format the SuperDeadite does, shows off cool shit then pops it in and plays it well not just a camera pan across his room with the tv turned off lol

I really don't get the whole Youtube scenester thing. The people all seem deranged and the videos paralyzingly dull wank feasts. Some are very informative, such as SuperDeadite's, but the majority are just horrible. Loaded with errors and way too long.

Classic Game Room is still my favorite.

My buddy and I are thinking about doing a series of YT videos focussing on good simultaneous 2-player games.  He really wants to do it but I'm still on the fence.  All of the gaming douches on YouTube put me in no hurry to join in.

Most of them are just obnoxiously boring. Hold up a game, talk about it in completely general terms for 1 minute, then wash-rinse-repeat for 20 minutes straight. I've always wanted to make a mockery pickup video:

"I am really happy to finally have this game, because I've been looking for it for a long time. Since I've been looking for it for a long time, I'm just really happy to finally have it, because I've been wanting it for a long time, and I have been looking for it. It is really nice to have this game that I'm happy to have because I've been looking for it for a while now, and that makes me happy because I now have it."  Throw the game behind me as if it were trash.

"Now this game, I already have this game, but I am going to sell.. *cough* put it in my trade pile."  (Note, I actually saw a prominent youtuber do exactly that.)

"I picked up this game, now I don't know anything about it, but... " Drone on for 2 minutes about a game I have no idea about.

The guy in the video seems cool enough except that he's showing it off on YouTube, and he frequents NintendoAge.  So that means he's a schmuck.  I'm surprised that he was willing to buy Magical Chase, considering that it isn't VGA graded.

I still don't get all the hate Nintendo Age gets from here. If they want to spend all their money on games to do museum work and not have fun with them, why not? I know that it is one copy less to be enjoyed, but unfortunately it's their money and it's a free market.

Personally, I could have the rarest game in the whole world but I wouldn't really seal it and not enjoy it, I would play it to death and then maybe sell it. Don't waste your life doing museum work (hint: there are museums already doing preservation of rare videogames), play them instead!

People just want to hate. That's it. Period. I frequent this board and NintendoAge. I collect and I play games and I love seeing all the huge collections some of the members at NA have. Also a good place to get a hold of games without having to shell out Ebay cash. It's a good community. I have a rather large collection of consoles and games in the box, including lots of TG16 and PC Engine goodies. I get them out to play them often but I still love looking at my collection. It's a chunk of my youth, like it is for so many. It's funny how people from this or that forum, no matter what hobby or interest it is, bash each other over stupid shit.

Can anyone call someone a "hater", or is it the exclusive domain of horrible people?
