Anybody on here do any kind of fan art for video games? I've done a lot of small-ish paintings, mostly stuff from Transformers, Zoids, or Macross, but I started on another small project today & thought I'd show it off here:
It's the Silver Hawk battling it out with King Fossil from Darius. I usually begin these paintings with a pencil sketch (this one is incomplete), which I then go over with ink before painting with acrylics.
I was particularly pleased with how the sketch of King Fossil was turning out, so I went ahead & started inking it. As you can see, though, the Silver Hawk sketch has been erased because I was dissatisfied with it. I will be posting my progress on here, assuming there will be more progress (I have a habit of starting these things & never finishing them.)
What do you think? Care to show off some of your artwork?

Progress looks good so far, I'd love to see one with color! :D I can't ink to save my live, I tried and the lines turns out all wobbly and not very nice. Blahgh! Now, digitally is another matter :P
This thread makes me remember that I have a DA account I haven't touched in in a year or so and...I don't want to log in and check my message center *shudder*. I mostly did anime fanart but I remember like...3 or so game ones:
(Just a heads up, I've had that account since...like...2004 and I was alot younger back then and it shows. I act and spell like a prime time weeaboo....even more than now :!: Judge me with that in mind :pray:) Old -----------------------------------> New
...and now I realize I haven't done anything art-related at all this year... :shock: Gotta start again or I'll loose it for real...

It is done it is great, it is good, but it is not original. It could be used for a cover, etc, etc, etc. or even poster. However it looks like you might have some difficult with the dimension of the ship vs the battleship. However in theater ( towards stage ) it looks decent.

Indeed you are right sir, which is why I have erased it & started over on the Silver Hawk. :)
Yeah, but it's got the wrong "aspect ratio". The work area matches a normal 4:3 display, so I've had to make it fit with a 16:9 display instead. Now 50% of the tablet isn't in use :P Feels a bit like a waste.

looking good your a talented artist, wish i could draw i want a gradius tattoo from just above my elbow to my wrist i know what i want but cant draw it. goes like this
on my forearm i want the vic viper with the a few options flying over a line of Easter island heads shooting some small ships down the the head going off into the distance towards my wrist, then i want a fire moon on my elbow with a fire dragon wrapping around it going down the back of my forearm with some of the enemy ships mixed in.
seems a good idea of a tattoo very different.

it looks really cool, but there's a visual disconnect, at least now, from the bubble up top and the characters bellow.
I hear ya on the changing stuff...I've changed Yuna's position several time already... I think I'm gonna try the digital route once I've got the final rough composition down.

I was debating the medium for the yuna piece. At first it was going to be all pencil art and MAYBE markers, but realistically speaking digitally is the best way to go. This will be my first fully digital piece so bare with me ;)
It will be about 600 dpi 8x10, so you should be able to blow it up some and still retain some decent sharpness. I've got a usb tablet here at home but I can't find the pen...BLEH and I've got a really nice Intous at work. Lucky for me I can work on digital stuff while on breaks and no one cares. So I hope to make some progress that way. But you know how it goes...lol

600 dpi with those measurements (are you thinking in inches?) is officially pretty damn big :shock: The piece I'm working on is just about 2000 pixels high and only 72 dpi (but then again, never intended for it to be printed, if I did that, 300 dpi would be better perhaps). I don't know, I just have a hard time working on really big stuff. Photoshop zoom levels are a bit odd and file size and the performance/memory it takes is a bit of a turn-off for me :P Also more time consuming. At any rate, I think you should be able to work in a slightly smaller scale and still reach desirable results... :-k

...what do you work with that let's you have a glorious Intous? :shock: Man, I've wanted to try those things for the longest time, they're too expensive, even today when the old models are...well, old!
Edit: I think I just got the Intuos-line confused with the Cintiq-line :P I have an older Intuos, it's a Cintiq I'd love to try (or a newer Intuos, for that matter)

Background's actually darker than that, I just have fully white, semi-transparent layer on top so I can still see the lineart and what I'm doing :P

I've got a couple of side ideas for the yuna piece that might benefit from the high res and i also want to try a poster size print or as close as possible. I've also considered doing it in illustrator for the vector benefits.
I'm a creative director at a software co. and use the tablet almost daily. I'm spoiled by it. i use a combo of mouse and tablet when doing pixel art. For now my pen and sketchpad should be enough. lol

Cool. I Liked "Light" and "Cross" the most, would fit quite well in a driving game perhaps (or maybe shmup?). I tried the Forza Horizon demo yesterday and I'd rather have some of those songs in there instead :mrgreen: Nice "soft" sound which isn't trying to kill my speakers or sub.
Colors filled in and started adding some shading. Ran into a few bumps but think I made it out okay, was quite a while since I colored anything...and cell shading can be hard because it's hard to..."cheat" like you can do with soft cell shading and similar styles by adding soft graduations between colors. If your shadows/shapes are off in a hard cell shaded artwork, it'll stand out like a sore thumb :-k

As for your picture it's looking great now that it's coloured in.

Just the mouse. I love sequencing (or whatever it's called when you just click the notes with the mouse). I'm not big on playing instruments, but I'm good enough at writing music.

did a little pop-up prototype a few weeks back... was some random guy playing the pce.. although everyone was too young to get it.. thinking it was a Dreamcast so I reluctantly agreed...
Seriously, though, after seeing all this productive artistic output....

so a few weeks ago I ordered a pce controller from japan..
The idea was to create something that replicated a joypad/joystick/user input etc... to make an abstract piece...what for? for a project based on the "Artist Multiple".
The college has some old machines that heat up sheets of plastic and then vacuum forms the plastic around an object..

Looks good! You could probably use some sort of epoxy putty or Green Stuff (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FCLTY4/) to fill in and shape those pockets before you paint it (or do whatever you have in mind :) ).

I just so happen to have a bunch of empty shadowbox frames just lying around. I might try my hand at making something like this!
Anywho, I've started on another chiptune. The basic composition is nearly finished, I just need to work on the mix.

my uni 2nd year course is over (hopefully I won't need to do any retakes over the summer) and then I will have my 3rd year...
anyway did some more pce controller plaster molds... funny all the non gamers call them gameboys but I wasn't going to put my foot down and correct them.. They got a little dirtied with ink since I wrapped them in newspaper while taking them home.

since I spent the whole year researching on video game culture the theme here was to mix video games things with Christianity final project of the year was to create a book/magazine digitally and create a pdf/ebook viewable on a portable device. so one of the illustrations was a cherub with a pce controller
