Armageddon? Get your batteries to keep your TE and gameboy powered. :D
Seriously though, good luck to all if you are in the path. If I don't make it, Turbokon has my address, he can come over and raffle my TG (and other) collections. I keep it all very safe and it has a chance to survive even if I don't.

I am spending the next couple of hours moving things in my basement - just in case I get a little water...
-
Ha now you know how I feel living in Florida and getting all the hurricanes and scares. After a while they aint no biggie.
-
Stay safe guys! :)
-
I get to come to work in it!!!
-
I hope you guys all end up OK. Keep us posted.
Chris

Its going to collide with a cold front from canada over New England. Last time that happened to us it was pretty hairy. Hope all stay safe.

I work for a telecommunications firm and it must be open and manned 24/7 because it's a utility company. An email came down from the COO that the storm was not an excuse to call out sick. Even if there is a power outage, the building will be up & running because not only is it tied directly into an energy substation but also has a large backup generator. Yay...
-
Damn, hang in there guys!

When the state Governor has issued a State of Emergency, it is against the law for a company to hold against you time missed during that time. A state of emergency is just that, and is issued for safety reason. Of course, places of employment dont make that known. Or maybe not. Hell, Im not even sure about it now. I ma getting varied answers. Either way, if I didnt feel safe in my hour drive to work, because of weather, my ass stays home.
-
I have a few gallons of extra water and that's about it. I need to get some food because our fridge is bare. I'm not particularly worried, but I need to rake up the 50-60 bags of leaves I have sitting on my front lawn. At the very least, I'll be cleaning my driveway of leaves today whilst listening to Unshackled! (radio drama) on my electronic media device.
THE END IS NIGH.
I am spending the next couple of hours moving things in my basement - just in case I get a little water...
I have lots of stuff in plastic bins in the basement. I pray that my we don't lose electricity, though, because my sump pump keeps the basement dry. Generator? No, I don't need that. Doh.

I work for a telecom companty too and we have contractors who make a killing doing post hurricane clean up. They'll even travel several states over to do it.

Ahhh. On the Jersey shore, it's getting pretty dark, waves and tides are higher than they'ge ever been. Got me some food and water just as an incase. Gonna ride this out and hope flooding isn't bad round the state. Not expecting too much damage other than the beaches, and some flooding. Basically not going g to tempt fate, but I'm not worried...yet.
-
Hope the Jersey beaches make it through this... I vacation there every summer with my family. Been going to LBI since I was a toddler, and now I've been taking my 3 year old there. Fun times... just hope theres a beach to visit next year.
I feel you guys on the "going to work thing", as I have to show up no matter the weather conditions. Even in a state of emergency... if a cop pulls me over for driving during the emergency, I just show him my ID and he has to let me continue. Really sucks...

subways will close at 7pm tonite. if i can't go to work, it will be a marathon gaming session tomorrow (GBA is charged in case of power loss).

NORTHERN NJ CHECK-IN: It's a gorgeous, ominous overcast day so far. I still haven't cleaned up the leaves. The family's gonna go for a nice hike, instead. Gorgeous out here. Hopefully, my super-tall pine trees (over 100') will still be standing a few days from now... I lost one to lightning a few years ago. I was sad. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgsad.png)

Yup! I was so happy to hear Bloomberg announce everything this morning. With mass transit closed, I DON'T HAVE TO COMMUTE TO MANHATTAN TOMORROW! Of course, if my basement floods, I'm f*cked. What a nasty mess to clean up. Not worth a week off from work, to be honest. So, NO FLOODING BASEMENT. Repeat: no flooding basement.

I'm not gonna raffle it off. I'll just keep them for myself, hehehe:)
I hope it misses you guys. I'll get to experience these thing soon enough, I might be moving to savannah, Georgia.

NH/MA CHECK IN: driving on 495 in NH now on my way back to RI. Just some rain, but tons of emergency vehicles on the roads which is good to see (I guess).
-
JERSEY SHORE CHECK IN: windy. driving rain, ocean high and churning. nothing too bad, just waiting at this point to see how bad she'll get. barrier islands evacuated about an hour ago.
Futher update almost 8pm. just went outside, Wind gusts now unbearable. Rain less of an issue. water still rising . . . tomorrow's tides could be killer. looks like most of our beaches will have serious erosion. storm track now heading directly for the area.
-
NH check in: nothing so far, not expecting hell to break loose until tommorrow night. I have my Gt charged up thanks to Duo-r.:)
-
Central NJ.
Some light spritzers of rain earlier, but nothing for a few hours. I'd only be in the outskirts area of the storm anyway, so maybe I'm located in an area where there's a break in activity.
I moved some things upstairs. Not a whole lot. After last year, I started keeping things a bit higher normally. My basement doesn't get a huge amount of water regardless.
-
North Shore MA check in:..light winds...light on and off showers...nothing really at all going on at this moment...The action will prob be best tomorrow im thinkin...
-
f*ck this shit, Im heading to work!! :)
-
Just got home, pretty quiet in RI.
-
I'll be heading into work in the next 8 hours. Not too worried about that, but the trip home 10 hours later I'm more concerned about. The storm should be kicking ass by then.
Alls pretty quiet right now in northern Delaware, just some light/steady rain.
-
you guys be cool.
-
This storm is a wimp. :) We've had tropical storms down here with more bite than Sandy! :)
No seriously... y'all stay safe. I know that the area it's headed for isn't really designed for hurricanes, unlike here where cat 5s are a mere inconvenience.
-
I'm pretty much inland, far as being in maryland go's and about the only thing i am worry about is a power outage.
Still hurricane sandy has shut down schools and the government down in washington dc.
-
RI here, so far just some rain and modest winds.
-
So far all good, looks to be nothing more than a big long rain storm, wind has become steady but managable. flooding held off for the most part during this AM high tide. just a few more cycles to make it through. nothing to it but to wait till this one's through. The evening will be the real test.
-
Work sent us home early at 8am this morning. Theyre shutting down power to the complex in preparation for the storm. Depending on the severity of it when I wake up tomorrow morning, I may use my last personal day.
The wife doesnt have to go in today either. They shut her complex down for the day as well. 4 day weekend for both of us! Hopefully the liquor stores stay open today for a few hours
-
I just got off my roof, cleaning the gutters. Damn leaves in New England!
-
That's the good thing about living in Kansas, we only have to deal with tornados.
-
That's the good thing about living in Kansas, we only have to deal with tornados.
and your little dogs too...
-
looks like a massive storm coming up there. hope all the best for all you guys outhere.
-
Living in PA, I'm in the center of the mess and already the town is starting to pile on the rain. Streets are starting to hold water. No gusty winds today, yet. To top it off I'm currently waiting in my car for my work shift to start and I doubt they'll be letting me leave anytime soon. Not that I'm complaining, I need the money. :P I'm not sweating it, only thing I'm worried about is the house losing some shingles off the roof.
-
Good luck to y'all. I'm glad I've nothing to worry about here, other than a few corn husks blowing in the breeze.
-
Current weather report states that the hurricane is practically going to nail northern Delaware/southern Jersey dead on. Bracing for impact in the next few hours... better get my Obey-ing in while I can!
-
Good luck folks ....... Stay safe

Not sure how it is for others here living on east coast so far, but Sinistron living in NY, pretty much sounds like he lost everything. His area got destroyed/flooded neck high, etc, and from what his neighbor had told him, their homes were not spared. Tim being in NH, hope he is doing ok himself.
-
Aww, that sucks. I hope Sini's okay, waiting it out at an Arbys on high ground.
-
That sucks for Sinistron. I can offer him a free Insanity when he gets all setup again. I don't have any other spare stuff though. :-/
The power went out here at 11pm and ruined my Ultima Onlining for the evening. It just came back at 830am. I suppose that's nothing in comparison to what I saw on TV with regards to new york.
16 dead, 7 million homes with no power, tons of destruction.
f*cking storms.
-
Yeah sucks about NY, hopefully Sinistron is alright. I consider myself lucky with losing only a couple pieces of siding off the corner of the house from the storm. Nothing a call to the insurance company can't cure. Its too bad the same can't be said about New Jersey, Delaware, and New York. Millions of people who lost everything, a few even losing their lives... :(
-
I drove home to Buffalo, NY from Ottawa, ON last night and it was pretty awful. It is something like 330 miles and the second half of the trip I had zero visibility. Exception being the occasional sign that said "emergency speed, 45mph" instead of the usual 65mph.
Hope all is well. Things closed here due to flooding and downed trees. I didnt have the heart the check my car today, last time there was a big storm a tree fell on it. Ignorance is bliss.
-
We lucked out in my Area, was not nearly as bad as it had originally looked. We lost power for about 14 hours, but thats about it. Sorry to hear about Sinistron. hope everyone came out ok as well.
-

Damn....and the last one took out enough as it was :\
-
Damn, that sucks ass. Let us know how Sini is doing. :(
-
Yeah, definitely keep us updated about Sini... and everyone who can, help out! :) (please)
-
Anyone got any updates on the well-being of Sini?
-
He has been slowly trying to get shit out of the apartment that he can save. Landlord is being unsympathetic over the issues currently taking place. Also, he is waiting for Fema to get back in contact with him.
-
Landlords suck. :( Let's set up a "help Sini" fund. :)
-
I can drop him a message and see how he feels about it. He posted that he is currently needing tips for finding a decent priced rental apartment or whatever. I know for sure though if he is able to salvage any of his games and movies he is going to need another TG Cd or Duo, and Booray player. I am not sure about him and his wife's clothes, if he is going to be able to save any or not. Just going to have to ask him. Also, anyone else here on the forum get hit in a bad way by Sandy?
-
I know nothing about that area but I'd be willing to throw some cash and maybe some stuff into the pot to help out.
-

Yeah I didn't want to say anything yet until i was sure I knew what him and Sue were needing, their complete situation, etc, but I had marked up that last huge batch of movies fairly cheap in my "stuff I don't want" thread. Whatever ends up selling, the money goes to Sini if it ends up he needs it. I know hes been overwhelmed over the past week, so I didn't want to hassle him about it all, figured he'd need some time to assess the damage.
-
If anyone on this site needs help, please let me know. The most I can offer our east coast brothers is $, but I don't want to see any of us struggle. Please let me know how I can help.

Me too. Keep us posted Mike.

Ya I have been seeing Sini's posts as well, i don't even know what to say to him as him loosing so much, i dont think a sorry cuts it. I did send him a pm today and Prof that's a hell of a nice thing to do. Sini is a good guy I just shake my head when he updates us on what he is seeing and going through. :(
-
would be nice to do a pce/turbo game drive for him once he gets settled again.
-

I am down for that. Even a few bucks each should allow him to get some of what he lost back. I know it is just games, but anything to put a smile on someones face in a bad time would be nice.

Yeah I was thinking games specifically cause it's nice to go to something like games and hobbies to get your mind off things when life throws you a curveball.

That was my thought, and why I didn't bother posting anything.
especially since Sinistron probably thinks I am retarded and doesn't want to hear my nonsense. If you didn't want to hassle him, I sure am glad I didn't! hah.
Anyway, that really sucks that his landlord is being unsympathetic.
I will definitely see what spare stuff I can offer to him.
Maybe we should get it all together as a secret santa thing too, and make his Christmas extra special.
Unless he's a satanist or something.
-
Yeah the irony is he got flooded last year due to a storm too, but last time it was just maybe a foot or something, so it didn't destroy too much. I was able to send him a replacement power supply for the TG CD and a gamepad, but obviously now that stuff was sent in vain since this new storm decided to fill the entire place with water close to the ceiling.
-
well those pictures of the NJ shore is where I live . . . so much destruction . . . no words . . . just got power and internet back today after 5 days in the cold and dark. Helping those that I can, emotinal exhuasted. If anyone was trying to get ahold of me I'm sorry, give me some time, might be a week or two but I will get back to everyone.

fuuuuuuuuuuck. That sucks.
There's a Deep Blue joke in there somewhere.

Yeah. I know he loves the old TG CD combo, but this time around he will prob have to settle for a region modded duo or something when he gets settled in and ready to game again. His Mac also got soaked, and all his current music work about was on it. A tech guy who works for his moms law firm is going to remove the hard drive so he can get it sent in to a data recovery center.
-
I shot him a message on facebook offering a US Duo. I've got a diving board adapter that can go with it. (just don't have time to fuss with doing a region mod right now) I know it will be a little while til he gets settled back into a place, but for when he does.

Awesome man. :)
-
Saint BMW, doing his paladin-deeds, yet again!
I had spilled pepsi on a mac once, and tried soaking it in water to wash the pepsi out before it corroded/left sticky goo.
It didn't work, and so I couldn't lie and say "dang it just stopped working!", but I pulled the HDD out. It's in my PS3. Still works fine!
I'd bet his is OK too.

thats the coolest!!
-
please dont toss your water damaged games/systems
if it was off its likely saveable.
-
Yeah thats what I told Sini when it happened. Figured most of the stuff could be saved given I salvage electronics all the time. I think his game system though got toppled over, and a lot of the cd titles got crushed and damaged, etc from stuff falling everywhere.
-
i got flooded in 97
i lost a walkman and some CD's
the CD's got holes in the plating.
all else was saved
-
Im not sure how corrosive salt and stuff is to electronics. I know basic water from the sink won't damage anything if you kill the power and wait awhile.
I've dropped my DS in the toilet and it still works, lol.
-
Yeah Steve I told him he could prob save some of the disc, even if he couldn't save the paperwork, but he'd have to get them cleaned off and dried pretty fast. That flood water can be pretty corrosive depending on what all is in it and if it sits long enough. Unfortunately some of the stuff was just too trashed from stuff toppling over and all from the rising water, so he couldn't save all the disc games, and still wont know for sure about the hu-card stuff until he is able to try them out.

I'll be happy to region mod that duo for him if you need me to.
-
I've got a free Insanity + Soundtrack with his name on it when he's ready for it.
Hopefully China Warrior survived.
-
its a huey, it should be fine

I might take you up on that! I'll include the mod chip itself. Its just the time to do it that I dont have :P

Anytime man, shit I still owe you for lending the LT to me.
-
I was just going to ask if anyone's seen Esteban, & here he showed up today & posted several times!
-
First, I hope everyone who got pulverized by Sandy is managing OK.
I know a lot of folks who were dealt a bad hand by Mother Nature this past week--I see Sinistron was yet another one. Sorry to hear that. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgsad.png)
I was just going to ask if anyone's seen Esteban, & here he showed up today & posted several times!
I just got my power back today, a few hours shy of a week (7 horrible f*cking days) without power/heat. It was getting really cold the past few days, too.
My 15-month-old twins were sleeping/napping in their snowsuits to stay warm. Their noses/cheeks were ice-cold, but otherwise they are tough little bastards. Saturday and Sunday night was too cold (dropping below freezing) so we stayed with a friend with a generator. Holy sh*t the heat felt nice. We still spent our days back at home (to give our hosts a break) and the novelty of "camping inside your house" wore off pretty quickly.
I'll spare you the details about saving spoiling food for meals and all the complications of no traffic lights functioning, no businesses open, no ATM's operating to dispense cash (should you find a business open, it's cash only), etc. etc.
Thankfully, though, no major damage to my home.
-
Sounds like oodles of fun. Sheesh, I'm glad you guys toughed it out! Hopefully everyone affected can ever so gradually settle back in as best as possible.
-
Glad everyone's all safe. Sorry for anyone who's having a crappy time right now, hopefully it will end up as a great anecdote later, if nothing else.
-
Good to see your safe esteban. The shore fared little better I'm afraid. Anyway, th.e state is still a bit of a mess, will be traveling north today, hopefully power will be back up where I need to go. Also i understand Worse part for me has been lack ot heat and power,(okay the worse part has actually been the emotional toll of friends and family. Losing their houses but I thank my luck that personally it was just lack of power that I had to deal with) I haven't been able to work in almost 2 weeks, so no paycheck.
-
I got my power back last Sunday, but I didn't get my computer back up and running until this morning. I'm still cleaning up a lot in the basement, but it's nothing compared to what some other people in my area went though. I lost some PS2, PS3, and GCN cases, instructions, and inserts (discs got wet but are fine) and a few other odds and ends, but other people lost everything in their homes, if not their entire homes :( Oh, and I lost my PCE Duo's power supply, but I can use my Genesis 2 power supply in the meantime. I'm going to check it out a little later just to make sure it all works. Then I'll get another power supply.
-
Im not sure how corrosive salt and stuff is to electronics.
Where I live, the salt in the *air* is enough to corrode electronics, if given enough time. Exposed metal starts to rust after only about a month, and large metal objects can turn to dust in just a few years. CDs can become useless if left out for about two months, and even when stored, they can completely degrade after about 5 or so years. The salt concentration in the air is several thousands of times less than the salt concentration in salt water, so that should give you a rough indication of how damaging it can be.
-
I'm so sorry to hear about all the shit you guys are going through up there. :( It's good to know some of you are doing alright considering all that has happened. :|

Hmmm let me check I might have a PCE duo supply floating around here somewhere. . . if I do I might be able to get it to you, (depending how far you are from New Brunswick) although it seems like your not in too much of a bind since you've got the genesis supply.

Thanks, man, but I've already got another Genesis 2 power supply on the way. My old power supply works, too. I played some Lords of Thunder last Friday.
It looks like the only power supply I lost this time was my 360 Slim's. A replacement for that is also on its way :)
I lost my SNES power supply last year, but that's been taken care of for over a year already.
