Title: Unwanted flatmate
Post by: soop on November 27, 2012, 09:49:47 PM
Bit of a weird one here.  Basically had a lot of stress recently because my flatmate has screwed me over for rent, and for the last 2 months I've been living on f*ck all.
I gave him notice earlier in the month, but he's made no attempt to move his stuff out, and I need it out before I get someone else in.  Looks like the only way is going to be to pay someone to come get it and stuff it in a storage unit for a bit.  Maybe change the lock.  (he's basically hardly ever there, he sneaks in and out occasionally, but he avoids me and stays at his girlfriends.  I haven't seen him in over a month).

Reckon that's legal?  it's all a bit stressful.  I'm in debt with my bank, and I had to borrow £100 from Donna last month just to make it through.

Soop I am in no way an expert or even a novice, but I believe you can lock him out then when he comes back hand him his crap and tell him to have a good day. - https://www.gov.uk/private-renting-evictions - Anyway sorry to hear of your troubles.  Hope all gets better soon.  I'd have given him a square kick in bollocks by now.

Here in the states I always made my roommates co-sign a lease, so basically if they are late on rent or skip town they are still legaly obligated to pay.  If they don't it's legal action.  I've had to take that road.  It worked out well for me that way.  I also put their shit all outside, and tell them when the rents all caught up it can come back in.

This thread is so awesome.  It's Jawesome!

It just brings up the question:  What does "living on f*ck all" even mean?

"f*ck all" is an expression that means "nothing". "What did you do today?" "f*ck all."

Yeah, I'm gonna start doing that.  I've known the guy for years though, and I was really NOT expecting that from a friend, especially one I've done so much for in the past, being there for him when his marriage broke down etc.  Turns out he's actually the most selfish victim-mentality person I've met.

I've found that moving in with friends is almost always a great way to end said friendship.

Glorious, thank you for clearing that up!  :D

Genesis and SNES are 'f*ck All' when compared to PCE.  Or is it, Sega and Nintendo have sliced no f*ck against PCE?

I'm more confused now......

If he's avoiding you to the point of living somewhere else, sneaking in and out, and you haven't seen him for a month, then he's planning to screw you over completely. Don't try to be nice in an effort to save your friendship - he killed it when he decided to f*ck you over for the last two months. Change the locks and either throw his stuff out or put it in a storage unit for ransom. Do it now before he moves out while you're gone and you never see him again. He's probably moved half of his possessions out already.

it wont get better, he wont pay past bills, just cut your losses and toss his shit out. especially if hes avoiding you. ive lived with a buddy that had to cover the rent a couple times but i always paid him back or worked on his car project to get him back. but there has got to be communication. him being sneaky means he has no intent to pay you. now you are in debt cause of him? f*ck em, you dont need homies like that.

Lock up his stuff while you can.  You need some leverage, he is the one at fault.

Ok, thanks guys.  It's gonna be a lot of time and effort (and money), but if I don't get him out, I can't get someone else in.

Kill him and sell his kidneys to settle his debts.  Problem solved.
