Hey everyone,
After trading some PC Engine games, I got a Virtual Boy with Mario's Tennis! I am very pleased with the system, and the game is really good too. Unfortunately, a cable came loose during shipping, so the left eye screen is garbled, so I have to get the special tool to open it up. Unfortunately, there's not much purpose playing the VB right now without 3D, but I plan to have many hours of joy with this thing. Good thing I have a swirly chair with adjustable height. ;)

I'm sorry to hear that... :(

Shouldnt be bad to fix. The virtual boy is a surprisingly good system. Very few bad or even mediocre games for it.

Very underrated and under appreciated console IMO

The ribbon cables for the screens are notorious for lifting, they were only held down with adhesive and they were never set properly from the factory. Very common problem but easy to fix, just solder them both down and you will never have to worry about it again.

What's the best guide to do this? I heard that there is an oven method too, which seems risky.

I'm not sure of any guides, you'll have to Google. Forget the oven method, even when it works it's only a temporary fix.
All you need to do is disassemble, there's a ribbon cable going from each lens to a PCB which you need to solder down with a fine soldering tip either end and then reassemble. It's a little tricky to line everything up when reassembling but nothing major.

Interesting, there were bad batteries in there. Even when I replaced the batteries, there were still some vertical glitchy lines. Not horribly corrupted like before, but I still need to fix it. I ordered the part yesterday incase, and hopefully the fix should go ok. The 3D is extremely impressive though, now that I am able to see it. It's not eye-popping but incredible depth. :)

Bound High!
Is there a convenient way to order an actual cart of this game yet? I know that some guy was doing them if you asked him but it was kind of weird and not official.

The guy who was doing it for donors no longer is making them last I knew.
Uncle Tusk made a small run of these and was selling them on his site CIB.

I remember going into KB toys and playing the tennis game... Never had one...

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered Bound High, seems a little pricey... but I guess it is nice that it comes with a box and the whole nine yards.

For a heads up, I used the oven method, and now my system works perfectly! :D
I hope it stays this way for at least a few years. ;)
