Got this from Magicbox, this is a prototype for a new Streets of Rage that apparently got cancelled. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JtOIdgP7U44
It's lacking something...I can't quite put my finger on it...

I actually think it looked pretty good for an early build of a game. The music would definitely need to be improved and the game needed to be sped up, but that was a solid foundation.
Of course 2 or maybe even 4 players would be a must.
Best part of the video was the opening, I love how the thug threw the molotov into the Sega arcade.

I love how arcade machines, like everything else, were massively combustable in the 80s.
BTW, how long before Sega gets this taken down?

yeah, it's kind of hard to believe that they'd dump something like this. it looked pretty good, I'd have definitely picked it up on principle alone.

Agreed. The graphics look great, but it doesn't look like it would be fun. I think part of it is that the main character moves too fast, but it also looks kind of bland, gameplay style.

Looks like the Saturn version. I'd rather have that than this.

Interesting...looks like it would have been an updated Fighting Force game. Cool intro.

Damn. Not to be a total wuss, but that stomping-on-a-guy's-face-while-he's-on-the-ground stuff is f*cking violent. I'll stick with 8- and 16-bit brawlers.

Other than the slo-mo crap, it looks pretty good to me. I'd definitely play it.
Well, the whole point of the game is to beat the other guys to death.
What about just knocking them down until they disappear?
That's how I fight. It can take days.

There should have left it as a side scroller, looking like that would have been cool, put some bagging music in there and keep the old game play with some new moves and your on a winner.

Looks very western with all the unnecessary preamble and the such. It says STAGE 1 START but you've gotta sit through a bunch of nonsense before stage 1 actually starts. Then you beat up 3 or so guys and the screen fades out to more unnecessary preamble introducing the next character you're abut to fight. I hate games that keep taking me out of the game! This is only acceptable between stages.

They said it's a very early test build and not even an alpha so I'm sure the cinematics were more in the game to sell the concept.
I think it looks pretty cool, not sure I would pay $60 for the full game unless it was really well polished and had a fair amount of replayability though.

Speaking of beat-em-up replayability, how come they never made a game in the genre which is like Diablo with random dungeons?
For example, you are in a factory stage, why not make it so the stage and boss and weapon layouts are random? Perhaps have rare items pop up from time to time and you do all of this online co-op. I imagine if all the assets are in the game, there has to be a way for this to happen.
Maybe you break open a barrel in the fire stage, and 1 in 1,000 chance the ice stage boss happens to pop out. Perhaps you are online and your group happens to wander into another player controlled team on the same stage? Just an idea, but people play the same stages in Halo and COD over and over, why not in this genre? Just unlock special moves or by building exp.

Random dungeons were used in earlier games like Slayer, Dragon Crystal, and Fatal Labyrinth.

With Double Dragon Neon recently coming out, maybe this game will be put back in production. Tho' I agree with Esteban, it is lacking something. Seems a bit slow with the fighting mechanics and the music is well better turned off. The style was great.. ..
