I am thinking about it. But man, this game does sound terrible. However, hearing all the negative things has sparked my interest.
Anyone tried tackling this beast? Your thoughts?

I haven't yet, but I wanna give it a go for the 'measure of a turbo badass', and because I'm drawn to crap like a fly (*cough* Hatris *cough*).

I got stuck at some point. Hmmmm. Where was it?
Oh yes, if you don't clear out enough memory, you can't play the game? It's been years...
As for the actual game, I genuinely got stuck at some point that frustrated me. This was before runin started playing Astralius in his awesome thread (now deleted, unfortunately)...
Here's the reason why I was interested in Astralius: http://archives.tg-16.com/turbo_play_0005.htm#more2
CURSE YOU, HYPERBOLIC COMMENTARY IN TURBOPLAY!

It's not a BAD game, it's just got some f*cked random-numbering-battle-shit.
If that wasn't so bad, the game would be better. I still dig the game.

It's not a bad game -- it's a TERRIBLE game! The encounter rate is madness, which makes dungeon exploration stupidly annoying, the battle graphics are absurd (you have to select a command to view your enemies) and the only good music is during the scene where you're walking on top of sharks' mouths. Considering the game is about a group of musicians, the lack of cool songs is shameful!
If you get stuck, there's a FAQ out there on the internet somewhere, but that would be cheating.

Is the challenge to see how long you can stand the game before you put it down? I don't think I did very well when I bought this game back in the mid '90s - and I had a lot more free time on my hands back then than I do now.

Yes, this is precisely the challenge.
Except, it's even more masochistic than that: I submit that the TRUE CHALLENGE is to finish the game WITHOUT any assistance. No FAQ, no walkthrough...
I have never experienced the orgasmic shark-walking moments, for example.
Oh, I've read about everything this mythical game offers from its flaccid bosoms, but I've only choked on sour milk and chalky air.
I long for the sweet, sweet milk of Astralius.
