Title: Faceball on Virtual Boy is being released!
Post by: lukester on January 01, 2013, 02:38:22 AM
Hey everyone,

Recently, Bound High! was released on the Virtual Boy after many years. Now, Planet Virtual Boy has also obtained Faceball! The rom will be released, but only after the cart release. Read the whole thread here. :)

Also, apparently this is the best version of Faceball, so that's great news.

Here is a rare review of the game.

I do wonder if Dragon Hopper and Zero Racers will ever show up though...

Wow, that is awesome.  The buyer of Faceball seems like he really went out of his way to get this game, so I am definitely going to pick up a copy.

If they quality is anywhere near as good as Bound High, the box, manual, etc. will be great.

The game will be produced by Uncle Tusk again, so that is great. :)

I'm not sure about the game though. It's a very good game, and the best version, but not as good as Bound high. Also, because the buyer is trying to get some of his money back, the cart release will be $100 instead of $75 like Bound High. :(

Also, I think they said that Arena mode doesn't work.

But, the rom WILL be released for free, no matter what. :)

I think giving $100 to someone who is willing to go out of his way to spend five figures on a game is a fair proposition.

I especially hate these dickheads who buy games and don't release them so they can have them all to themselves.  My ranking of scum of the Earth goes something like this:

Hitler > Prototype Hoarders > Murderers

For example, I think people on this forum would gladly throw some cash towards the release of a game like Marble Madness on TG16, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

I don't follow the VB scene, but it seems like they have their shit together over there.

Hitler > Murderers > Prototype Hoarders

Fixed :)

In all seriousness though, I wish that Dragon Hopper and Zero Racers have been found by now. Anybody on this forum have any idea what's up?

Lukester, finding the game was your part of the plan.

TheClash603 = pitchfork gatherer
Esteban = flamethrower gatherer
Lukester = PC Cocoron locator

...someone needs to more thoroughly read the memo.

Yep, and there is still a very active effort to track down Dragon Hopper and Zero Racers. With that said, Faceball cost a lot (from what I've heard the cost was that of an inexpensive new car for the prototype) so even though this eventually will get released, one person spent a huge amount of money for the benefit of the community.

Edited: As price paid for the prototype is unconfirmed.

I am going to snatch up the original rom, what ever version that will be.

There also will be a remastered version with 56 unique stages(including the original 14), but I have no idea when that will be done or if it will be the $100 or $200 version

Unfortunately, there will be no cart release. Bigmak got too many threatening PMs. But, the rom has been released now! :)

Bigmak will also give out whatever carts have already been produced for free!

You can also go donate here. Clicky click on the nice big Faceball button!

Is there any way to get this from on a real VB?

This is so f*cked up. Who does this?

I read the thread (http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=4816&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=70) and Bigmak's response on page 8 and I'm trying to think of an analogy for the kind of bean-counting, toadying, VGA-collecting, retrogaming parasite RAT that would threaten someone trying to do a release like this. I can't.

Let's examine the motives of such a person:
1) deep concern for the IP of a nameless, uncaring corporation who can't be bothered to do their own police work and will never pay the long-gone programmers a dime.
2) belief that duplication = theft. I'm not a huge pirating advocate, but it's not exactly theft.
3) eagerness to act as a cop.
4) willingness to begrudge fellow fans of a new cart because the generous, sharing buyer who rescued a game from the prototype sharks might recoup a fraction of the purchase expense and manufacturing cost.

Yeah, there are many games such as Super Mario 2 Lost Levels Repro carts and Konami MSX Colecovision ports that are legal. Nobody would listen to me though. :(

BUT, Faceball: Reloaded, which will have all 56 levels finished, instead of the same 14 getting harder each round, will have a normal release.

Vestcoat, if you want a cart, you can still donate a little amount of money(doesn't have to be $100 or even $50) and let your intention be known in the Paypal transaction, but act fast. There's 52 carts, and about 20 donators so far...

How can you  make a donation? I don't see a paypal address or anything.

Go onto the front page of Planet VB. There is a Faceball Banner that you can click. It's easy to find.

Shit eating white knights that'd steal from their own mothers if given half a chance, yet they can't stand that someone else might do something nice for others and make a buck (even if they spent five bucks to get the one).  AKA, a$$holes.

Yes they do. The Flash Boy Plus. I believe that you can still order some. Richard makes Vectrex Flashcarts, as well.

Thanks Lukester, but I don't own a VB. I just thought your updates about the VB scene were cool and couldn't believe it when I heard people were threatening this guy. I hope the ROM release and the Reloaded cart go well!

I am with you vestcoat.  I don't know why anyone on Earth would object to something like this.

As far as piracy goes, I don't do it, but I don't care what you do with your own stuff.  There are these internet police out there that for some reason feel like they are in charge of controlling what others do.

...anyway, I think that piracy is beyond moot at this point.  Some people say that old arcade games shouldn't be played on MAME, due to recent re-releases like the Simpsons and X-Men on xbox live, etc.  This point is somewhat valid, but at the same time, it does not hold any weight when arguing about a VB game.  Without the VB system, these games are basically useless.  There is no way in hell that anyone is rushing to make more VB games or make more systems.  With that said, there is NO issue in releasing this game.  VB Faceball isn't going to come out on any other system ever.

End Rant.
